… that last link really annoys me. Mostly because I AM a teen, and the attitude that woman has about us is just… UGH.
It’s the reason why I don’t try to strike up conversations with most adults outside my parents – whenever I try to actually start a real conversation (rather than just politely nodding and smiling), I get the ‘Oh my God!! It speaks!!’ look. Really now.
I’ve been able to hold a mature, adult conversation – about anything from politics to office work to movies – since I was 15. Give the teens at least the benefit of the doubt, you might find they have something interesting to say.

Obama, we are assured, had no contact with Blagojevich, the Governor of the State he represents.
A Senator who doesn’t chat occasionally with the Governor of the State he represents would be, well, the first word that comes to mind is irresponsible.
When the Senator is giving up his seat, the Governor of the State he represents will be important in deciding who will occupy it later — and the Senator has a definite interest in who that will be, out of political concerns if nothing else.
So he’s either lying (in the case where he did have such contact) or an irresponsible fuckhead (in the case where he did not.)
Which is it?
And, for the record, insofar as the substantive issue is concerned, I don’t really give a damn. But it’s interesting, isn’t it, that he hasn’t even taken office — Hell, the Electoral College hasn’t confirmed his election yet — and we already have a case where something minor to the point of triviality generates a brouhaha.
So: Liar or incompetent. Which?

I can tell you why he lied. It’s really very simple. He’s a product of the Chicago Democrat machine. This is what they do. They lie, they cheat, and when called on it, they throw somebody under the bus to take the blame (with cashy goodness as reward for taking the fall). That’s the change that’s coming; a machine with decades of experience, and the likes of which DC has never seen up close. That’s the change. I have no idea what the hopey part is.

Just laugh. And stay on topic. Why did Obama lie, parsnip/alphie? The truth would not only have served him better in an absolute sense, we’ve already had several flat statements to the effect that it would have been accepted. If we assume that “Bush lied!” is accurate, at the very least he lied for a purpose (one you don’t like). What was the purpose behind Obama’s lie?

I’m interested in lots of things that never get to the top of Yahoo’s list. The missile defense system is now ten-for-twelve, NASA’s Mike Griffith is seeing his pet project dissolve before his eyes, the Indian Navy isn’t going to buy a Russian aircraft carrier, and there’s a cold wave coming down the center of the country. There are thousands of interesting topics, and not all of them attract the magpie obsessions of the Press.
This is one of them. Obama lied, in a situation where the lie was immediately exposed and where no visible purpose was served by the lie. Why did he do that?

Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero said the governor had no plans to resign Monday. Guerrero didn’t respond directly to whether the governor could or would do anything to slow the Legislature’s move toward impeachment.
“The governor has indicated in the past there is more to this story that he’s wanting to tell at an appropriate time,” he said.

The Kevin Drum attempt at deflection is that Obama said that he’d never “spoken” to Blago. Now that would’ve been Clinton-quality dissembling. What Obama said, though, that he had “no contact” with Blago. A blatant and provable lie.
If I exchange letters to someone, I am “in contact” with that person, even though the letters are delivered by a third party (in this case, the post office, in Obama’s case, Emanuel).

This will be one point where lefties start hating Fitz. Fitz’s habit of extra-judicial presser comments, he tried his case in the public saying way more than his assignment allows. NOW Blago knows it’s biz as usuall in Chicago and he’s not even close to being alone and he KNOWS the other side of the wiretapped conversations that Fitz did not release.
Blago actually has a LOT of leverage right now. My read on this is that Blago will keep it up untill he can get some kind of severance deal from the state or from the Obama administration. Dear Dairy, day 40, post Obama victory Republican Agony Watch: Their collective agony is severe, washing ashore in continuous waves of post-election depression. I remember when we used to banter in the mornings, JD, Alpp, Dan and me, like a foursome on the back nine playing a best ball scramble. No more. In the quiet hours (that’s what I like to call the morning) there’s never more than a water-cooler nod to the others existence as the r-wingered have grown too tired to fake it anymore. Their burn out feels awakening in a tent filled with hippies after a ecstasy-fueled 5-day Bonaroo music festival. Some are unable to fully lift their heads, others simply can’t summons the energy to type. The energetic smirking we-own-you clowning is gone and been replaced with frayed nerves, depression and intermittent states of total hopelessness.
The campaign’s never predicted ending, the full climax, if you will, many here never saw coming. Sympathetic figures of defeat? Not so much.
Their usual chest beating and tribal whelping is now slowed, predictable and feeble, weakened not only by their full defeat but from their long-crazy 8-year overdose of overconfidence.

Well, yeah, Major. A politician lied, ho hum. A Chicago politician wants to do pay-for-play. Snow fell in Chicago in December. Quelle sorprîse!
The surprising bits, in no particular order:
1) No one seems to be denying that Obama lied. Even Obama himself is admitting it, in his own peculiar way.
2) There’s no visible reason for the lie. Even if believed it wouldn’t accomplish anything Obama and/or his supporters want. In fact, if the statement were true or believed it would cast a very unfavorable light on his performance as Senator.
3) There doesn’t seem to be any “spin” coming from the Usual Suspects. Yglesias doesn’t have a Talking Point designed to deflect the matter. That leaves the trolls operating in scattershot fashion, with each of them bringing his or her own peculiar <harrumph> talents to the table.
4) To the extent there is a unified response, it consists of people who have obsessed to the point of mania over “lies” being cavalier and blithely dismissive of this one.
5) The Press is actually covering it. We learn, this morning, of a maneuver designed to mitigate the worst of the effect, but it isn’t nearly enough to sink it. Nor is a particularly juicy distraction.

The essence of my many arguments against KK was his faux analysis was all a cloak meant to disguise his terminal buck-toothed hick woofing over Rev. Wright’s right to be angry and insane. White preachers are also often angry and insane therefore to become arrogantly fixated on a black preacher of the same stripe that that creates questions in itself. Is to preach about past racial transgressions in church go against the White Christian God?
So miffed was KK that a black dared to see things differently than him that he set about to use his boiling fury to impugn the one parishioner in Trinity seeking elected office that he knew, Barack Obama, in a oddly desperate attempt to put one man’s words into the mouth of another.
People see things differently. Fine people like Maj. John fight for our right to voice all our opinions from however we see the world. Freedom of speech’s end game is that people like you and me and Barack Obama might learn from listening to viewpoints of differing vantage. Yes, Jose Marti had the right. Yes, Aime Cesaire had the right. Yes, Rev. Wright has the right. If you believe them to be desperately wrong-headed fine, but don’t sit there and pretend anyone who reads or listens to others with different views is thereby guilty of association and conjoined thought. Fuck that. Too cheap. Too stupid. And I believe that mentality has a motive attached. When it comes to denying that a black man has a right to his perspective I call it as I see it, meaning it’s simple race-based bigotry. Rev. Wright not only has the right to speak but he – especially in his case as a former marine – has the right to a perspective entirely of his own making. One didn’t need to look too hard to find Barack Obama had an entirely different perspective than Rev. Wright, he wrote two books, after all, so to watch KK do his all-day everyday gymnastics as required to politically slime one man’s reputation by rote of association with another should and was questioned.

Carin what gets me is the crowd reaction in those youtube clips. The crowd had obviously heard them before. They did not gasp and look around at eachother in confusion when they heard “God damn Amerikkka” or “the evil white US government invented AIDS to kill you”. They got up and cheered when they heard that, they responded to it in a positive way and there was no surprise upon hearing it. To believe O! sat there with freakin earmuffs on and was the only one in the church not cheering is retarded. You have to literally throw all common sense out the window to believe that. Honestly, you’re a joke thorazine. You have no fucking clue. My church is lead by priests of all backgrounds. There are three readings from the bible, and the homily is usually about helping your fellow man or examining your conscious. At the end there usually is a bit about donating to the food pantry, or helping at the farm that feeds the poor.
