The cankles that roared.
Not really sure how this will work, policy-wise: will Clinton provide a muscular foreign policy cover for Obama? Or will she now be free to adopt a more “progressive” foreign policy, and please the base that largely abandoned her in favor of Barack?
One of the reasons I would have been less concerned with a Clinton presidency than I am with a Barack Obama stewardship is that I believe Hillary would have held fast in the GWOT — in so doing, making a statement that a female CiC will refuse to show weakness when confronted with an enemy that treats women as chattel and breeders.
Barack however is under no such pressures.
Still, now that it’s beginning to dawn on him that he will be held responsible for keeping the country safe from attack, Obama seems to be wary about removing many of the safeguards put in place by the Bush administration — or making anything more than cosmetic changes.
Seems this whole Islamist threat is kinda nuanced, after all.
So the question is: can he use the appointment of Hillary Clinton to justify to his base a bit more muscularity than he promised during election season? Or will she simply be serving at his behest?
My question is, what does Regis the mustache think of this development?
Regis thinks Hillary’s ‘stache is kind of cute.
My only concern is where she can do the least damage to the country. Senate of State? My guess is that she will be less harmful but more visible at State. After all, I doubt she can turn the place more left.
I wonder: is it absolutely required that she give up her Senate seat to be Sec. of State?
she’s prettier than maddy albright but i’m kinda worried about bill being left behind . won’t he get lonely?
For a Democrat, probably not exactly. It will be a sabbatical.
Ooh, that’s gotta hurt.
Well, why not take it, you know?
She carpetbagged her way to the Senate and used us people in NYS to run for the Presidency. We’ve served our purpose, so just move on.
She did good enough for us, I’ll admit. But that was mostly so she’d look credible. Good luck, I guess, but now we’re at the mercy of Schumer and whatever patsy takes her place.
Obama seems to be wary about removing many of the safeguards put in place by the Bush administration
That’s why Obama said point blank on the TeeVee yesterday that he’s closing Gitmo and ending the practice of torture the day he takes office.
Well, it’d be a better pick than John Kerry.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
Is Clinton in Biden’s sphere of influence? Don’t think. I think he just lost all rationale for breathing. But more I think this signals Baracky wants to be a good old true blue socialist domestic policy president what devotes every working hour to strangling an uppity America with regulation and taxes and oppressive spirit-breaking class warfare and fixes for problems that only exist in his Chomsky-addled twisted worldview and all justified cause he indeed said he would ask us to sacrifice. His woman said much the same.
Because, as everyone knows, we have been torturing the shit out of people for years!
Also, it’s not inconceivable that Bill runs for her seat, no?
It’s gonna happen I tells ya. Think about it! OBAMA said it AND he said it on television!
>>Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
Gov. Patterson will appoint the replacement. Buncha no-names, so if Rudy wants to run in 2010 or whenever, then good.
Spitzer isn’t doing anyone anything, right?
anyoneIt’ll be the whatshername who got pushed aside when Hillary moved in. Don’t ask me her name, it’s irrelevent.
But I am honestly surprised if she does end up as SoS. I mean, just how many Clinton retreads is this guy gonna load up on, does he really think he’ll be able to exert any control over them? And what is he planning to do to keep his own name in the spotlight?
Apparently ‘change you can believe in’ is codespeak for ‘I think we’ve seen this movie too.’
Oh God, why couldn’t we have elected someone who was willing to just nuke the fuck out of anyone who looked at us funny? That’s another way to avoid these tiresome “occupations”, and cheaper than paying full price for oil. Then Christopher Walken could be SecState.

The only torture around here is reading your painfully obtuse scribblings, you retarded marmoset.
With Hillz as Sos, O! will be able to use her in a game of good cop-bad cop; where Hillz is the bad cop! He will be able to maintain his distance above all the trifling and bothersome foreign policy stuff while he pulls his messiah act on the home front economy…
Then in the best O! fashion, he will be able to blame her when the nutroots get on him for not closing gitmo fast enough, or getting out of Afghanistan fast enough (“But Kos, Sos Clinton told me we needed the military sword of Damocles to hold over their head so as to force them to the peace table”), or even when he has to get tough with Russia or Iran. And, if he ever get’s too much heat, then presto!, under the bus she’ll go with the rest of the useful idiots…
It’s a win-win for O! really, and keeps another one of his enemy’s closer…
It’s all pert of the apotheosis of O!
Best Wishes to all…
And that likely hasn’t happened in, what, thirty years?
It also places her 4th in line of succession, BTW. Let the speculation begin!
It’s no different than that hoochie in … Missouri is it? For someone to follow their spouse into office?
Bill doesn’t have to run, he could be appointed by Patterson. (I don’t think Chelsea is old enough)
Think back on how much you disliked HRC 12 months ago, and now she’s an improvement over anyone The One could name for about any cabinet position. (She’s certainly better than Ketchup Head, or the second coming on Maddy Not-So-Bright)
That’s why Obama said point blank on the TeeVee yesterday that he’s closing Gitmo and ending the practice of torture…
Yesterday being the operative word there. It is almost cute how sniffles actually believes this shit, you know?
If she takes the slot, is it a high enough position to become “queen bee” above San Fran Nan?
just like how he said he would take public financing for his campaign. oh wait…
Think of O! as Janet Reno and Hillary as Web Hubbell. The flack-catcher, who none dare criticize, and the regent who is the real power.
No way will HRC or Bill get anywhere near the cabinet – this is just some pundit-gas being vented by the Washington scribblers.
>>above San Fran Nan?
Nope. Pelosi is 3rd in line.
Excuse me. Pelosi is 3rd in line currently. Whoever the SotH is, that’s the 3rd.
Yesterday being the operative word there. It is almost cute how sniffles actually believes this shit, you know?
Unlike the clever righties who have convinced themselves that Obama will govern to the right of St. Reagan, Bmoe?
Whatever gets you through the next 4 years, eh?
what movie is showing tonight?
Still, now that it’s beginning to dawn on him that he will be held responsible for keeping the country safe from attack, Obama seems to be wary about removing many of the safeguards put in place by the Bush administration  or making anything more than cosmetic changes.
This makes me so sick I could puke right through the monitor and onto the comment section. He knew damn good and well that he wouldn’t be changing much, and yet he and his cohorts lied and lied and lied about how the surge was a failure and how we needed to get out of Iraq RIGHT NOW and how Gitmo needed to be closed TOOT SUITE because of how it made us look to the world.
And people voted for him because they believed the putrid lies from the Left.
I mean, I noticed the light(?) from the projection.
We watched The Candidate a few nights ago. It kinda made me feel better. I guess. same ol’, same ol’.
Whatever gets you through the next 4 years, eh?
Took the words right out of Obama’s mouth. Do you really think the first black President, who also happens to be an apostate in the eyes of the Allahbotherers, is going to be slack on domestic security?
Seriously?
No way will HRC or Bill get anywhere near the cabinet – this is just some pundit-gas being vented by the Washington scribblers.
Plus, I would love to see Hillary as SoS, therefore Obama is not really considering her.
Some may have but most of the Left knows that everything is a lie crafted to gain power. The words are only to fool the fools. All is spoken in anticipation of it being “inoperative” on the morrow.
I bet we’re out of Iraq completely by the end of Obama’s first term, BMo.
And I bet we’re chatting with Iran soon after Obama takes office, too.
That’s enough to make me happy.
Please ignore the Typing Telephone Pole – I’d ask that as a personal favor, as he wished me dead on this last deployment. Would you all consider this as a favor to me?
Tell me this, sniffles, the Dems have been talking about establishing a secret civilian court to replace the military tribunals we are now using to try terror suspects and illegal combatants, how do you feel about that?
I don’t even know who you are, John.
You must be thinking of somebody else.
Sorry, Maj John, I had no idea.
#44 – you were still calling yourself “alphie” and it was when you were trolling Jules Crittenden’s “Forward Movement”.
That’s really shameful and twisted.
Pity for him that I came home just fine, and we managed to clean house while I was there too.
I’m not “alphie” you’re thinking of, son.
But if you’re going to make a charge like that, surely you could provide a link, right?
BMoe,
Anything Obama sets up has to be better than the embarrassing military tribunals that proceded them.
Your style has definetly betrayed you, alphie, as others have pointed out. Have you stopped trolling Crittenden’s then?
Anything Obama sets up has to be better than the embarrassing military tribunals that proceded them.
I rest my case.

I believe we’re waiting for you to provide a link to prove your rather serious charge, John.
B Moe, I agree that a lot of righties voted for Obama, if that’s what you mean.
It’s even more sociopathic to lie about it. Hello? Apology? That comment you linked is depressingly dead on, B Moe. I’d missed that before. I really dread the moment when I realize I wasn’t apprehensive enough.
Maj (P)John,
Congratulations on your safe return, and on the success of your housecleaning on deployment…
May I express my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude, respect, and admiration for you and your service. Because brave and honorable troopers like yourself willingly choose to sacrifice and suffer the privations of the field, we are all safe and sound here at home. I can’t comment on the election of O!, but that aside, we tried to keep the place up for you while you were gone!
May God bless you and keep you. I’m happy that you’re home in time to celebrate the upcoming holidays enjoying the bosom of your loving family and the love of all your friends.
Many happy returns, and I’m sure I speak for most of us here when I say that I salute you…
Thank you for your service!
Sincerely…
Oh, but you aren’t alphie, right?….
All I know is it’s not a good thing that Baracky is co-opting the Clintons. What’s he have in mind that he feels he needs to shore up his flank like that?
I believe we’re waiting for you to provide a link to prove your rather serious charge…
You do realize that “oh yeah, well you can’t prove it” isn’t exactly a winning response?
here Major John, just contemplate the wonder that is the cheese pumpkin. I’m so going to make these. soon. but without peanuts. probably just use extra parsley to keep them from sticking to things.
Major John’s word is linky enough. It’s linked to integrity. Baracky people will have trouble getting their heads around that idea I think.
there are only so many people that can leave Chicago. I’m guessing. I think mostly, he just hasn’t been around enough to really know anybody, so of course all the Clinton people are coming out of the woodwork now. Who else is there?
oh. I don’t get the peanuts either. I think bacon might could do the trick though. Like bits except not those weird kind you buy the kind you make.
whoa, happyfeet! that makes me drool even more. I may just cry yet again today. but from joy.
Please ignore the Typing Telephone Pole – I’d ask that as a personal favor,
Somebody with a Y chromosome, please explain why it is so hard to ignore provocations from ignoramuses. I mean, “a dog who barks at a man is just a dog; a man who barks back doesn’t have anywhere to be that morning.” — David Wong
Maybe I guess, maggie, but I think it’s a bad sign. Another one. Who else is there among Democrats that could marshal opposition to him? I can’t think of any offhand. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.
another brick in the wall …

That reminds me though I need to go get persimmons to give those persimmon cookies a shot over Thanksgiving.
I have to go to bed not having any idea what the brick in the wall linker thing is supposed to mean. I will check back in the morning and see.
well, see, and this is where The Candidate comes into it, hf. Last scene he’s all “What do I do now?” and I think that’s a lot Obama. so the Clinton people are all, “here, we’ll help you, um, do what we think you should do.” and it’s not like he can really object, because who else does he know?
You do realize that “oh yeah, well you can’t prove it†isn’t exactly a winning response?
Just an accepted internet tradition, B moe.
Back up your post with a link if it’s available.
It’s not like Jules’ archives aren’t there.
pardon, hf.
It was a small gift for Major John, should he wish to use it.
I am very sure he has more important things to do than babysit the internet.
Thanks again, MAJ John. And as far as ‘cleaning house’ goes, Yon and some others are saying that it’s over.
alphie, it is going to take a bit of a search since this: http://www.julescrittenden.com/2007/08/10/boot-in-the-other-mouth/#comment-24408
Of course, one has to admires alphie’s military judgement:
“alphie Says:

Muqtada al-Sadr isn’t a threat to the United States, PA.
He never was.
Patraeus is a loser, quite possibly insane.”

Stay on target, son.
snuffles – not going to get it. But of course, you insist you aren’t alphie, so why the isistence on it?
That’s a pretty harsh claim you made about me, John.
I see you’ve been spreading it on other threads besides this one.
If you just made it up in anger I’ll understand, son.
Your honor is at stake here.
Athough a Senate seat in deep blue country is not exactly vulnerable, backlashes do occur, and it takes a lot of money, time and energy to keep one of only 100 of the sweetest gigs in the world. Much better to stay “safe,” grab the job that will get you headlines every day without having to worry over water quality standards in Poughkeepsie or that ambitious DA in Buffalo who won’t stop calling. Get a position above the local fray, stay in the statosphere, after her successes in the primaries she doesn’t need a demotion in profile–to paraphrase my own state’s favorite sons, “she’s bad, she’s nationwide.”
Given an offer from her literal bete noire to meet-and-greet with every major pol in the world and upgrade that foreign policy resume, she would be foolish to forsake it. The ground will be rough, but no matter what happens she can lay blame for anything that happens on His O-ness while leaking to the press that she, herself, favored a less, um, nuanced position.
After four years of limelight, she will step down, claiming that she has done all she can do in the position but has served the country “passionately and bravely,” thus distancing herself from an Obama admin that must run for reelection in 2012 (no one with brains-or ambition-runs against a sitting President in the primaries).
So, she can’t run against Him in 2012, but can keep the high profile until then. If O loses in 2012, she can do nothing anyway (the GOP would have taken over). But if he wins, she will be distanced from his government until 2016, when she can either challenge any Dem who seeks to succeed him or a Republican who won the Presidency away from a one-term Obama.
Smart, savvy, pantsuity.
That’s a pretty harsh claim you made about me, John.
Here’s the thing which you won’t do — say you’d never wish a deployed US soldier dead and that you thank all the guys and gals for their service, that you have nothing against them personally, including Major John, and that you simply oppose the war they were sent to fight. It’s that fucking simple, you turd-eating asshole. But you won’t say it because you don’t believe it, you bicycle seat sniffing puel.
hehe….bricolage.
/golf clap
good stuff, Jeff.

lol, oops.

snuffles claiming not to be alfie is a stretch, sorta like Robert Reich at a urinal.
Sad thing is this bloated tick sits safe and secure under a blanket of security provided to him by others. Drop this guy off in a third world hellhole in any hemisphere and he would be robbed and broken within a day.
Maj. John is exactly correct and requires no proof or links. Alphie – monkeyboy – neville chamberlain – snuffles has a peculiar style that is unique. The bottom line was his use “$700 billion dollars for Iraq” and his declared admiration for “Reagan and Bush’s poppa,” a contention he’ll never get around to supporting in any meaningful way. He is a semi-moby and what I would call a “niggling troll” in that he searches for the most provocative ways to make comments, most of which are only tangentially related to the topic at hand. His comments will get more and more personal and violent until he is banned again just as he was at Patterico and Jules and here.
Again a reminder that the multi named one got himself banned here for declaring that the Va. Tech massacre was no big deal as it represented only a fraction of “Iraqi civilian casualties.” this was on the day after the tragedy. MJ is right; ignore this whack a troll until Jeff gets around to banning him for good. He takes thread on a winding and ultimately circular path that serves no good whatsoever.
MJ; Welcome back! God bless you and thank you for your service.
“Va. Tech massacre was no big deal as it represented only a fraction of “Iraqi civilian casualties.†this was on the day after the tragedy.”
Not even original troll I see, I saw that at Kos and almost gagged. I think they mighta took it down. I swear half these people literally just take other peoples opinions and just parrot them here. WTF is the thought process behind that I will never know.

This is rich, in full bodied , bold irony. With splenda and a light cream.
How about a little brie to go with that whine, son.
Got a little sidetracked there.
How many secretarys of state have gone on to become president? I think she just blew her opportunity to run in 2012,
Mr. Pink I don’t think you were here as the monkeyboy/alphie infestation ran from mid 2006 – spring 2007. Ignore the feckless, obtuse asshole until Jeff drop kicks him like a plaque scarred soccer ball.
Nah I wasn’t here. I started coming here probably around a year ago at most. I just know I saw that VA tech comparison somewhere. It sickened me then and sickens me now. I had friends there. What a piece of shit.
Simple google searched provides context. These people use a fuckin massacre to advance their domestic political goals. Classy

We’re talking about people who honestly believe they saved Tinkerbell, and don’t comprehend why just believing enough isn’t sufficient to change reality.
Thank you and welcome back, Maj. John. It’s double good, because my brother (also named John) is back from Afghanistan.
Now the family just has to wait for the son-in-law (aka Mark 2) to get back from Iraq, again. You guys are the best and it’s a shame more are not sharing the load.
“You guys are the best and it’s a shame more are not sharing the load.”
Do you think thor or alfie would volunteer?
Nah they won’t. You can call them chickenhawks now for not volunteering though. You know, since “their” guy is in charge and all.
I need to see The Candidate I think. oh. Got it, Adriane. That was a good thread … Hi nishi. I like your song this morning. By some fluke it’s playing at the office. But for real … what do you think about Hillary as head of our State Department? You were never fond of her that I remember.
snufflealphagus, for real, saying you’re sorry goes a long way and besides, an explanation and apology is generally what one does after wishing good people would die in service of freedom. I would like to know for real what cause you were thinking would be served by his death. Save deathwishyness for politicians and other assorted evilness and you will be a happier person I think.
Has Matt gotten to where he’s gonna be based yet Mr. N.O’Brain? Thanksgiving in a foreign and hostile land. That would definitely fall under things what I have no experience of.

Thanks for asking, hf, but as of yesterday he was still in transit.
Which really sucks.
Thanksgiving, his daughters first Christmas, New Years, Valantine’s Day, Easter Day, and maybe through the 4th of July.
Plus Marine Baby’s first birthday.
But, to put it into perspective, my wife’s Father was in WW II, in the British army, and was away from home for 4 years.
It will be all good though and it’s very important work. He could be home analyzing leather and vinyl protectant usage and demographics, but that would not be a life well lived I don’t think.
I know it’s sexist to point out, but it seems that Barry has to get a woman to answer that 2am phone call after all.

You hardly ever see so much said with so few words. Beautiful!
Just how far does H. Clinton as Sec. State fit into the “Team of Rivals” meme, and how assured will the world be when it realizes B. Obama is being guided (openly) by Doris Kearns Goodwin (plagiarist) on the one hand with J. Biden (plagiarist) on the other?
Oy, it’s still too soon after the election. I feel like a freshly-disarmed character in Deliverance-is it better to squeal, or pray?
Bill Clinton sent our troops to, I don’t know, three dozen conflicts? He managed to keep the support of his base. I think Barry won’t care too much about the thoughts of the Kool-Aid stained.
Dan,
Bill was able to maintain support of the base because the people were fat and happy. This is the one thing that people tend to forget, the economic conditions that surround this current administration.
Easy money policies being applied as bromide to the current ills are not going to have the intended effect. The policy makers (including the Clinton retreads being brought out of storage) are reaching into the bag and throwing the same policy prescriptions to attempt and solve a whole different problem.
The $147 oil is was just a teaser of what is to come. Inflation. The Fed and Congress are all but garauteeing the prefix hyper to that monster. That is going to be the great thief of middle class wealth. New Deals and Job Corps are not gonna work either.
In these conditions, Barack is gonna be on a short leash with regards to the patience of the electorate. This is gonna be very bad. Not something that (most) of us have experienced. The markets don’t lie.
My worse fear is that he’ll do all the FDR things that kept us buried in depression (increased spending, makework, attempts at command economy, throw half the food supply in the Atlantic and give the rest away, etc.) but since some giveaways are included the masses will view him as the brave leader right for the times.
Think the public is wiser?
[…] BHO: Thanks, Hillary! […]
