Why the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band needs them a good re-education camp

Not surprised at all by this, but TalkLeft is quick out of the box with the dark suggestion that Joe Wurzelbacher — Joe the Plumber — is a racist who inadvertently let the mask slip and his white supremacist face show. Had something to do with bald head, I bet:

Via Politico: In Katie Couric’s post debate interview with Joe the Plumber […] Joe said Obama has a “tap dance…almost as good as Sammy Davis, Jr.”

"McCain was solid in his performance," he says. "I still don't know where he stands," he says of Obama. "I'm middle class. I can't have my taxes raised any more."

He also says he actually isn't in the bracket where Obama would raise his taxes -- but he's worried that Obama will shift the bracket down.

He also said that, in his encounter with Obama, the Illinois Senator [has] "a tap dance...almost as good as Sammy Davis, Jr."

Bye, Joe. I think your 15 minutes are up.

If only he had gone with Tony Danza instead of Sammy Davis, Jr…

Code words, Joe. Code words. For Chrissakes, man. Do you not read our memos?

  1. Dash Rendar says:

Undesirable, Undesirable! Purge, Purge! Release the counter plumbers, directive 881. CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN comply post haste.

  2. Carin says:

Joe’s more than just a racist. He’s also a tax dodger.

  3. McGehee says:

TalkLeft obviously can’t tell the difference between pale skin and white robes.

  4. Carin says:

Link didn’t work.” Dodger” was supposed to link to my blog. Shameless, I am. Click my name. Top story. Or don’t. I don’t care, bitches.

  5. TmjUtah says:

    Hey you.

    YOU.

You, who don’t pay attention to politics for whatever reason. “They are all the same, I always vote for party “x”, I vote who my folks vote for, I don’t vote…”, yeah, YOU PEOPLE.

Watch what happens to Joe the plumber. He just works for a living, has his own interests and has informed himself of the issues, and then fucked it all up by daring to think his speech and his opinions were his to freely express.

  6. Mr. Pink says:

I sure hope he is not from western PA.

  7. Fat Man says:

    You are all sanpaku.

  8. RW says:

Wait, he compared a black guy to…..a black guy? In the context of the second black guy being the most famous tap-dancer of all time?

Jeralyn, back away from the computer & put down the kool-aid.

  9. Carin says:

I had to look that one up, Fat Man. I’m assuming you meant the following definition:

Some societies consider Sanpaku (San Pacu) eyes to denote physical and mental superiority, also beauty. By all accounts it is a very rare and significant physical characteristic, envied and admired by some, but misunderstood, resented, and feared by others. Some representations of certain Gods and Heroes are shown with this characteristic. Most notable being the Samurai warriors.

    You are SO SWEET.

  10. Jay says:

The Leftists really are out in full force against this guy. Of course the most scurillous charge is that he’s somehow paid to do this—that he is a plant from the McCain campaign. Not sure if the charge falls under McCarthyism, but irony really is lost on the Angry Left. Like mentioned on this site too many times, they really don’t seem that confident that Their Guy is winning.

  11. kelly says:

And Greasy Joe Biden shows up to assure us that no plumber he knows makes more than $250K.

  12. ducktrapper says:

Stoopid plumbers are all stoopid anyway.

    – Barry S.

  13. ushie says:

Oh, yes. Yoko Ono diagnosed all the Beatles with san paku. Especially Paul. Then she showed John one of her “exhibits” and the rest is dismal history.

  14. Dash Rendar says:

    @10

B/c its all a house of cards that’ll get blown down from the slightest breeze. IMO Obama is a joke of a candidate that only persists b/c of the obfuscation of who he actually is, what he’ll do etc. That whole free market of ideas doesn’t favor leftism. Maybe that’s why the left hates free markets.

  15. Barry Obamuh says:

Joe should appear with Sarah. Obamabots head will explode off their necks.

  16. Techie says:

Wait, I thought Sammy Davis Jr. was a beloved American icon? Comparing Obama to him is racist?

  17. ducktrapper says:

Sanpaku is too … well, manly, basically.

  18. Dash Rendar says:

The O! is on track to become like one of those boy emperors of Japan. No one can look him in the eye, say his name, comment of his policies, etc.

  19. Big E says:

Isn’t Mr. Davis Jr. a jew? My god this “Joe the Plummer” managed to bundle a signal to potential moneymen in New York and Miami within a coded message to his handlers in the Klan. All right under Katie Couric and Talklefts noses. It appears this Joe fellow has a future in politics.

  20. maggie katzen says:

Wait, he compared a black guy to…..a black guy? In the context of the second black guy being the most famous tap-dancer of all time?

yes. the only reason you link Obama to anyone is because you’re racist. RACIST!!!

    Harry Reid said so.

  21. ashowalt says:

He should have said Gregory Hines. No, that’s not right either. He should have said Gene Kelly.

  22. maggie katzen says:

And Greasy Joe Biden shows up to assure us that no plumber he knows makes more than $250K.

if Joe had ever paid a plumber what we had to pay one yesterday, he might reconsider that. But I’m guessing Joe has people that take care of that kind of thing, so no, he doesn’t know any plumbers. whether they make 250,000 or not.

  23. Alec Leamas says:

“Wait, he compared a black guy to…..a black guy? In the context of the second black guy being the most famous tap-dancer of all time?”

I think at this point you are assumed to be a racist, and simply inadvertently confirm it. It’s a lot easier than, well, finding actual evidence of racism and stuff.

  24. Dash Rendar says:

Wait, so comparing Obama to Jesus is, like, saying O!’s a Jew? Fucking codeword rabbit hole.

  25. […] More from Jeff Goldstein. It’s getting so bad that you can’t compare one tap-dancing black man with another tap-dancing black man without being called a racist. […]

  26. Education Guy says:

I don’t see the charge that he is racist in that post.

  27. Carin says:

He should have compared him to Bill Bailey, Bill Robinson, Nicolas Brothers, Jimmy Slide, Little Buck, Chuck Green, Savion Glover Michael Flatley!

  28. Alec Leamas says:

Hey, look – Joe “the Ingrate Plumber” gets to have strange people’s “extreme good luck” under his fingernails at 5:00 A.M.:

    http://pandagon.net/index.php/site/comments/joe_the_ingrate_plumber/

Dad: “And that’s the second Rule of plumbing, son”

    Son: “But, Dad?”

    Dad: “Yes son?”

Son: “What’s the first Rule of plumbing?”

    Dad: “Don’t bite your fingernails.”

  29. Aldo says:

The tools for punishing ideological criminals like Joe The Plumber are already being fashioned, such as criminal libel with truth not being a defense.

  30. maggie katzen says:

He should have compared him to Bill Bailey, Bill Robinson, Nicolas Brothers, Jimmy Slide, Little Buck, Chuck Green, Savion Glover Michael Flatley!

    you forgot, Bojangles.

  31. Techie says:

    Doubleplus ungood.

  32. Carin says:

The charge is implicit in the title, I would say.

  33. Education Guy says:

In any case NBC very helpfully spliced Joe the plumbers question with Obama’s response at the debate. His immediate response to Joe about not wishing to punish and spreading the wealth?

Dishonest hacks, their parents must be so proud.

  34. maggie katzen says:

oh, ha, yeah. well, I always associate the Fred Astair number in Swing Time with that name. can’t have more than one association…

  35. Carin says:

Well, I cheated and used a list of the “greatest” tap dancers, and Bojangles wasn’t on it.

  36. Education Guy says:

You’ll have to explain it to me Carin, because I’m not getting it.

  37. happyfeet says:

When Baracky wants to associate about his policies he always picks white peoples he said.

  38. Sean M. says:

If only he had gone with Tony Danza instead of Sammy Davis, Jr…

Why? Because Tony once saw Angela in the shower on Who’s the Boss? Why bring up your ugly racist fears of miscegenation, Jeff?

  39. maggie katzen says:

    Why?

I think he’s been in Chicago on Broadway, lately. I could be misremembering though.

  40. Kirk says:

I’m not sure anymore if comparing Obama to anyone of any color is actually racist or if it simply sacrilege.

  41. Carin says:

Why would Jeralyn even bring up the issue if she didn’t find fault with the comparison? It is the sole point of the post.

Unless she found the comparison incredibly insightful…

  42. Veeshir says:

It’s funny, they won’t talk about William Ayres (who wanted to blow up the American dream and still does) or Jeremiah Wright (who hates the American dream), but some dude who just wants to own a business and employ people (live the American dream)? Attack, attack, attack.

Education guy, what do you think the post is about? Why would his 15 minutes be up for comparing Obama! to Sammy Davis Jr.?

  43. ducktrapper says:

Plumbers? Nixon? Bush? McCain? You all must see the connection, don’t you?

  44. urthshu says:

    Jesus H. tap-dancing Christ.

  45. kelly says:

Plumbers? Nixon? Bush? McCain? You all must see the connection, don’t you?

    Brilliant.

  46. TaiChiWawa says:

    Shirley Temple Black?

  47. Carin says:

You know, us conservatives are scary. It’s sad that all the dumb racists are on our side.

    pout.

  48. SevenEleventy says:

“Joe Wurzelbacher is unpatriotic!” – Senator Hairplugs

  49. ashowalt says:

He should have compared him to Bill Bailey, Bill Robinson, Nicolas Brothers, Jimmy Slide, Little Buck, Chuck Green, Savion Glover Michael Flatley!

That’s an excellent suggestion, but surely there would have been some sort of fusion anti-black/anti-Celtic racism evident, coupled with an attempt to deny credit for the evolution of jazz-based tap dance. And Tony Danza, he seems somewhat on the unintelligent side. Surely there would be some sort of racism there. Let’s face it, he should have just supported the Barry O.

  50. Education Guy says:

I think it’s a stretch. I even read the comments and no one is making the racism charge. Perhaps she is, but absent an admission of it then the charge is that she is insinuating it based on the fact that her readers will assume any comparison to Sammy Davis must be racist. Is that it?

  51. Marco says:

Oh, please, bring it on. Any sort of attack on Joe will backfire. Any attempt to cast Joe as beneath consideration will backfire. The only way that they could minimize him would be to ignore him.

So please, please, please, let him have gotten under their skin. Oh, please.

  52. psycho... says:

I’m not sure anymore if comparing Obama to anyone of any color is actually racist or if it simply sacrilege.

Your code book is out of date.

Comparing Obama to anything is racist. Reducing him to the derogated object of a simile is keeping him in his place.

    “Like” means “uppity.”

    “As” means “Mister Bojangles, dance.”

  53. Carin says:

If racism isn’t the point of the post, what “is” the point?

  54. Veeshir says:

Education Guy, why do you think they wrote that his 15 minutes was up based on comparing Obama! to Sammy?

Seriously, what was the post about?

  55. TheGeezer says:

Thde lefty extremists are about to undo themselves. With fifty thousand fingers all sticking Joe the Plumber to see if he ever dropped a booger in McDonalds, or failed a sobriety test, or missed a car payment, or pissed off a client…the average Joes and Jills will see that it is now unsafe to express a political opinion. His supporters will reveal the true leftism that is Obama: dissent means destruction.

  56. Mikey NTH says:

Joe isn’t very patriotic, trying to keep more of the money that is properly the governments’.

  57. Carin says:

psycho, I believe your book is out of date. My book only has one page, which says not voting for Obama is racist.

  58. Education Guy says:

    Carin/Veeshir

Questions aren’t answers. You are assuming facts not in evidence and then asking me to come up with possible alternatives. It won’t do well for the right to complain about the codewords tactic if we are busily using it ourselves.

  59. TheGeezer says:

The only way that they could minimize him would be to ignore him.

Has Joe the Plumber become the track back into Obama’s OODA loop?

  60. ducktrapper says:

Edguy – We are busy making fun of it.

  61. happyfeet says:

Baracky is a socialist, Education Guy. He wants to steal your shit and give it to his ACORN friends. He’s a dick and there’s nothing dancey about him. Plumber Guy is wrong. Baracky isn’t smoove he’s just a thug what his media covers for. Also him and his media always point out that people that criticize him are icky racists and they should just give him their shit so he can give it to his ACORN friends. He’s a waste of our fucking time as a nation I think.

  62. Veeshir says:

Yes, questions aren’t answers, perhaps you could answer a question.

What was the point of that post?

  63. happyfeet says:

ok i just wanted to rant a little

  64. Marco says:

“Has Joe the Plumber become the track back into Obama’s OODA loop?”

It’s more basic than that. Joe is the cloud you’re blithely flying through that just happens to be stuffed with a mountain.

  65. SevenEleventy says:

Let’s go to the resident expert on racism – thor, on a scale from one-to-ten, one being a minor generalization, e.g., blacks like fried chicken(Fuzzy Zoeller), and ten being egregious commentary like Karl writing unflattering posts about O!, how racist is the “tap dancing like Sammy Davis, Jr.” remark?

  66. Carin says:

I’m going on the assumption that Jeralyn had a point in her post. The sole fact she brings up is that Joe compared Obama to Sammy. The only two things I can take away – is that she found the comparison note worthy for some reason.

Unless, of course, Jeralyn is prone to writing posts for absolutely no reason.

I think it was weak, and I’m guess her commenters prolly thought so too since they didn’t hammer the point.

  67. Carin says:

    (ok, laughing at 7/11’s comment)

  68. happyfeet says:

Jeff thought that talkleft was all about pointing out Joe’s racisms. I trust his instincts here. Also, that’s not what Joe would have said if he were a racist. Not if he were any good at it.

  69. Education Guy says:

I know all that happy, and I very much do not want the socialist Barracky to be our president. I made my point, and I could be wrong. I’ll leave it alone.

  70. ducktrapper says:

When you’re so desperately in need of re-education, everything you say will be wrong because everything you think is wrong-headed. You can’t win, you can’t advance and you can’t even punt.

  71. Mr. Pink says:

By the way the comments on that link are hilarious.

  72. happyfeet says:

oh. mostly I’m still just ranting Ed Guy. Your point of view is fine I think. I just hate socialisms is all. Pisses me right off and I’m not having it.

  73. Hawkins says:

    BTW

Sammy Davis Jr was a Republican

Although Davis had been a voting Democrat, he had felt a distinct lack of respect from the John F. Kennedy White House. He had been removed from the bill of the inaugural party hosted by Sinatra for the new President because of Davis’s recent interracial marriage to Swedish actress May Britt (pronounced “My Brit”) on November 13, 1960.[12]

In the early 1970s, Davis famously supported Republican President Richard M. Nixon (and gave the startled President a warm hug on live TV). The incident was very controversial, and Davis was given a hostile reception by his peers, despite the intervention of Jesse Jackson. Previously he had won over their respect with his performance as Joe Washington Jr. in Golden Boy and his participation in the Civil Rights Movement. Unlike Frank Sinatra, Davis voted Democratic for president again after the Nixon administration.

  74. Paul Atreides says:

But it is okay for Obama to talk about “typical white people” and go to church with a racist preacher.

  75. SarahW says:

Well, here’s what. Sammy Davis, just six years old and stuff.

I’d link to the youtube of Sammy’s inaugural, but not only could not I , but you couldn’t denounce yourself fast enough and the denouncing would start moving faster than the speed of light backwards and there would be a rip in the space time continuum of Hadron Collider proportions.

  76. ducktrapper says:

Oh great! WaPo thoroughly vets Joe but continues to give Obama the big pass.

  77. SarahW says:

    Off to be re-educated. Goodbye.

  78. Mr. Pink says:

Yes duck, they got right on the case about Joe the plumber. Ayers, Freddie and Fannie Mae, Obama’s ties to ACORN, voting fraud, and reporting any good news from Iraq all left by the wayside.

  79. ducktrapper says:

Mr. Pink – Obviously smarter than us, they avoid racism in all it’s ugly forms, including non-racism which is perhaps the most insidious kind.

  80. Choward says:

My favorite part of this whole Joe the Plumber business is McCain using him despite the fact that he’s related to Charles Keating! has the right sunk so low they don’t have anyone not related to Republican scandals of the past to tap for their kabuki theater?

    Way to be competent

  81. maggie katzen says:

    um, link CHoward?

  82. Cave Bear says:

    Re #81;

No doubt he got that little tidbit from DKooze, the DUmmies, or some similar reliable source of the twoof.

  83. TheGeezer says:

Maggie, the link would be to KOS. The KOS post says something about Joe being related to somebody related to Keating. Get it?

  84. ducktrapper says:

Choward – No one (here) knows or even cares what Kabuki is, Mr. smarty pants. We’re all too sanpaku for that. BTW, McCain was cleared re: Keating. Now about Ayers, guilty as hell, free as a bird.

  85. Dash Rendar says:

Joe the Plumber is drinking our milkshake! Keating 5! 9/11! Inside Job! RACISSSMMMMM!

  86. BJTexs says:

I’m finding Alec Leamas’ link to MandaGONG quite revealing. In a nutshell, she echos the “rightness” and “fairness” of higher taxes on someone making $250,000 or more by pointing out, repeatedly, that they should be “thankful” for their “luck.”

    WTF?

Is there another insight into the liberal, wealth redistributionist mind that so effectively spotlights the problem of liberal/socialist policy direction? Innovation? Hard Work? Creativity? Diligence? BAH! You are lucky that your income grew to such Daddy Warbucks levels and you should be grateful, nay patriotic and cheerfully hand over a chunk of it to a caring and fair authority (not the least bit interested in power or influence) and allow them to give it away or spend it as they see fit.

Vote in complete security knowing that the altruism of your new overlords is right and good, hopey and changey. Blech!

  87. maggie katzen says:

The KOS post says something about Joe being related to somebody related to Keating. Get it?

oh, is this like that Kevin Bacon thing? but it only applies to Republicans.

  88. BJTexs says:

    Six Degrees of Corruption, Thuglicans!!!

  89. Dash Rendar says:

    Obama-Ayers-Rezko-Wright-Khalidi-Qaddafi

See we can play this game too.

  90. PC14 says:

I just knew when I saw O! dance on Ellen DeGeneres’ show that he would be an awesome tap dancer, but as good as Sammy? Hell no! Not the Sammy I knew, that was one cool CAT…until he started wearing those dashikis.

  91. lee says:

Joe is just regular people like Sarah, not really qualified to stick his nose in important political discussions.

His unenlightened opinion that $250,000 isn’t so rich that he and his dreams could ever achieve it, and the guy that owns the small company he works for may have to make adjustments to cover a larger tax load, negatively affecting his chances for economic advancement, are laughably child-like.

That is the attitude Obama just doesn’t connect with in middle-class Americans. Obama looks at them as a collective, working 9-5, going to a modest house in the evening to be with his domestic partner, happy with the distractions of TV and myspace. Content to live out their lives in the station they were born to.

The truth is, the middle class isn’t static. I mean, the middle class today won’t be made up of the same people next month because they are Americans, pursuing the American dream. Joes boss dreams of expanding, more employees, more trucks, larger building that he owns instead of leasing, whatever. Joe dreams of moving up where his boss is now. They both know Obamas definition of rich and his tax imposed on success is bogus, and an obstacle to there aspirations.

Obama sees a worker class, and his policies are designed to ensure it.

  92. ducktrapper says:

Dash, better yet … Obama-Ayers-Chavez-Castro-Che-Stalin. Not that I’m saying Obama is Stalin, mind you, but the connection is there for all to see. ;)

  93. lee says:

    err…their aspirations.

  94. alppuccino says:

    Jesus H. tap-dancing Christ.

As a practicing Jew, I think Sammy would find this very offensive urthsu.

  95. pdbuttons says:

joe the plumber installed a toilet in my house/and no matter
how much I tap dance around the bowl
    my ‘dookies’ come out white
plus-one of my eyes is turning glassy
    I denounce my turds

  96. ducktrapper says:

alpuccino – If you keep practicing you’ll be one in no time but what has it got to do with Jesus, Sammy or tap dancing, is what I need to know.

  97. HeatherRadish says:

In a nutshell, she echos the “rightness” and “fairness” of higher taxes on someone making $250,000 or more by pointing out, repeatedly, that they should be “thankful” for their “luck.”

Like giving an offering at a church or temple to the deity who smiled on you.

They don’t usually admit that government is their god…

  98. Choward says:

Well, I got it from here:
    eisenstadtgroup.com/2008/10/15/joe-the-plumber-wurzelbacher-related-to-charles-keating-oops/

you should try this new-fangled thing called Memeorandum. It’s wicked cool

  99. Jeff G. says:

Of, for goodness’ sake, Education Guy. Jeralyn notes the tap dancing like Sammy Davis thing and then immediately concludes with the quip, his fifteen minutes are up.

It’s pretty obvious — at least to me — the she saw something embarrassing in that comparison, and that Repubs would drop Joe because his skinheadedness was coming through.

YMMV, but otherwise, what was the point of mentioning it and ending the post the way she did?

    Answer: There was none.

  100. Jeff G. says:

Oppo research on private citizens: good! Listening in on terrorists: evil! The press vetting a presidential candidate: racist!

I bet Choward is just slavering over the insignia he’s going to get to sew to the shoulder of his jacket.

  101. BJTexs says:

Jeralyn and the left will continue to find ways to denigrate poor Joe, hoping that some kind of expose of licenses, tax liens, and party affiliation will render him inauthentic … or something.

They all miss the point, either through partisan blindness or willful ignoring.

No matter what they find or manufacture or just plain project, it’s all beside the point because the issue isn’t what Joe is or said but what Obama replied. Of course the left is all a twitter about this. The lest thing they need at this late stage is for those bitter clingers to come to a realization that Obama is perfectly content to share the wealth. They can’t have this unapproved talking point mucking up The Narrative™!

Joe, whoever he is, merely caught Obama being brutally, if unexpectedly, honest about his philosophy and expectations. Hopefully, voters are less concerned with Joe’s tax lien and more concerned with the Democratic candidate’s revealing words.

  102. Jim in KC says:

I thought the first and second rules of plumbing were (1)shit doesn’t roll uphill and (2) payday is on Friday?

  103. JD says:

I know we have all asked before, but given the upcoming Baracky Presidency, I would like to know in advance all of the various permutations of racist code words that I will not be allowed to use.

  104. lee says:

JD, Mr. Pink had a rather extensive list in another thread. With additions.

The point being, the words are subject to change.

Plus, a lot of the racist dialogue is in code, and comes and goes like popular slang.

If you have criticisms of an Obama position, rest assured, you are most definitely drawing extensively from the words that mustn’t be uttered.

  105. Neo says:

    I’m Spartacus Joe the Plumber

  106. mojo says:

What’s the complaint again? Are they saying that Sammy wasn’t a good tap-dancer?

Because, hell, even I know that’s just wrong.

  107. alppuccino says:

alpuccino – If you keep practicing you’ll be one in no time but what has it got to do with Jesus, Sammy or tap dancing, is what I need to know.

    seriously?

  108. Rusty says:

  109. Swen Swenson says:

Why the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band needs them a good re-education camp

No, they just need Jimmy Ibbotson back.

  110. you should try this new-fangled thing called Memeorandum. It’s wicked cool

you should try html. and some manners.

also, there’s nothing at that link that shows they’re related. except that they have the same last name. oooooooh.

do we know if he’s related to these people? staging…. spoooooky.

  111. Alec Leamas says:

“I’m finding Alec Leamas’ link to MandaGONG quite revealing. In a nutshell, she echos the “rightness” and “fairness” of higher taxes on someone making $250,000 or more by pointing out, repeatedly, that they should be “thankful” for their “luck.””

Pandagon is like free moby-style ratfucking for Republicans.

Imagine, if you will, a woman who can’t be bothered to roll out of bed before 10:30 A.M. – and for whom a bad day at work consists of the Milk steamer thingie going all sputtery – telling a guy who actually sticks his hands in other people’s impacted, years old shit that he is “lucky” to be allowed to keep some of what he earns.

  112. Travis says:

Uh, why is “the Nitty gritty dirt band ” being used as a euphamism for “racist” white people??? I was under the impression that they were virtuoso musicians… There goes the left being complete retards…. again…. WILLIE NELSON FOR PREZ!

  113. cockslap says:

Sammy Davis Jr. belonged to the satanic church…. That must be the comparison, between him mand Barrrrrrack… I missed it the whole time, I just thought it had something to do with their comparable over-zealous hamstrings…. I’m an idiot….

Good bye America, we had a great time…
