Not really, but I was suddenly gripped by the spirit of the New York Post.ÂÂ
The Politico’s John Bresnahan reports that Barack Obama is having to reach out to Capitol Hill Democrats, who are complaining that the Obama campaign is “insular, uncooperative and inattentive to their hopes for a broad Democratic victory in November.” A list of grievances is presented, such as Obama’s habit of turning up in members’ districts with no advance notice to lawmakers, not coordinating on message, etc.
Add this to the prior evidence that the Obama campaign’s talk of pursuing the Howard Dean/ DNC “50 state strategy” was mostly hype. Indeed, Obama essentially disbanded a coordinated state-wide campaign in Iowa drawn up and implemented by local operatives, in favor of his own people. However, Obama seems to be looking to coordinate is swing states where he did not win primaries, like Ohio and Michigan.
The irony is that the current RCP poll averages have Obama+4.3 and Generic Congressional Democrat+12, which suggests that Obama might benefit from more coordination.
The aloof attitude of the Obama campaign, if unchanged, also has potential consequences if he wins, as Bresnahan reports:
One Democratic aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity, compared the Obama campaign unfavorably to President Bush’s administration.
“At least Bush waited until he was in the White House before they started ignoring everybody,†the aide said.
“These relationships matter,†said a House Democrat close to the leadership. “I really hope these guys try to get off on the right foot. We all know what happened to [former President] Jimmy Carter and [former President] Bill Clinton. We don’t want to see a repeat of that.â€Â
Regular pw readers may recall that Democrats elected in a 16-year cycle of “change†elections the US has tended to have since WWII — including Carter and Clinton — also tend find themselves hobbled by a Democratic Congress.
(h/t Memeorandum.)

Those Congressional Dems have nothing to worry about. If Baracky can stop the oceans from rising, surely he can make sure San Fran Nan is still Speaker.
Sound like Obama believes his own schtick, ummm, maybe too much? Considering this story with the apparent consequences of joking about the leader gives one pause: is the mania on both sides of the podium?
Do I hear the approach of cackle-ing?
Ed Morrisey raises the spect

Oh please O please O please
SarahW,
O! is not that dumb. As Dana Carvey would have said, “Not. Gonna. Happen.”
After 1976, it took four years for Republicans to stage a comeback by winning back the presidency. After 1992, it took only two years for Republicans to stage a comeback by winning both houses of Congress for the first time in decades.
This iteration of the “change” cycle might — just might — see the GOP stage its comeback in time to hold the presidency.
SarahW: But fun to imagine.
McGehee: Possibly.
Low-level staff are teh suck. It’s leadership aides what matter anyway. I think this guy is a highly effective spokesman for Baracky.
A faint hope but a fervent one, Karl.
Are we experiencing change cycle half-lives, McGehee?
The low-level staff are revolting.
If O! did tell to drop dead, it would be something they could actually accomplish!
Coordinate and be polite to the members of the other elected branch would be hard to do and stay on a message of Hope and Change. How long have John Dingell, Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd, etc. been in office? How could appearing and being connected with any of them be spun as either Hope or Change?

You said it! They stink on ice!
“At least Bush waited until he was in the White House before they started ignoring everybody,â€Â
Translation: hey wouldn’t obey the Democrats! WAAAAAHHHH!!!!
That depends on when the GOP comeback is deemed to have occurred after 1960. If Nixon’s e;ection in 1968, the answer would be “Yes.” If Reagan’s election as California gubnor in 1966, then “No.”
Of course, that cycle was distorted by the mourning for JFK. I have reason to wonder whether he would have been re-elected if he’d still been alive in 1964.
e;ection = election.
I don’t think leet-speak uses the semi-colon as a substitute L.
They would be portrayed as having converted to the One True New and Eternal Faith™.
– Color me optimistic, but coupled with Obama’s lurch to the middle, his slowly sinking percentages (Karl, several of todays polls are showing them neck and neck at 43%, and that was before this mornings ridiculous “I’m presenting a plan, and then I’ll go to Iraq and see whats happening” speech in which he basically showed he was now copying McCain almost word for word), and todays speech, I don’t think its such a idea is so faint.
– Everything thats happening, including the rumors of anger over ignoring the state party machinery, is setting up the Hillery people for exactly that, a convention revolt.
– Also, just as an aside, whatever happened to all the “heavy campaigning for Obama” that Hill and Bill were supposedly going to do?
They would be portrayed as having converted to the One True New and Eternal Faithâ„¢.
I don’t think their egos could take any diminishing. Jesse Jackson certainly didn’t react well, and unlike Jesse, those three have power in Congress – power to make a President Obama beg for the merciful release of death.
BBH – Sen. Obama made a crucial error in disrespecting Sen. Clinton. He should be thrilled that they are not out campaigning for him.
– They wouldn’t have time anyway, even if they were disposed to do so. My bet is they’re busy laying plans for an ambush come convention time. The way she walked immediately off the stage at their “conciliation” rally, the look in her eyes could have set the campaign bunting ablaze.
– I think about that sceaming horde of Feminazi’z in the convention audience, and I think we’ll be needing a hell of a lot more popcorn.
My pick for funniest part of the Politico story is this:
Freudian slip much?
– BTW. I bet thats at least oart of why the Obama people are trying to move from the Convention center to the stadium, if they can pull it off.
– They figure, out doors the screaming effects will be totally reduced as compared to in a closed hall.
“Freudian slip much?”
– He knows a false sense of effectiveness and self-assurance when he sees it.
#24 Karl: Oh boy. That is gonna go over so well. Very poor judgment displayed there, giving other members of the party, those with power, a reason to quietly knife by withdrawing support at critical moments. A Blue-on-Blue situation is developing.
My question is: How long can Obangi keep so obviously lying through his teeth, and not be affected by it? The drive bys can only hide so much.
He is beginning to make Bill Clinton look like a piker.
Jeez! ObamaLamaDingDong’s ego appears to be spiraling out of control. He seems to really believe that he actually is the Messiah.
A 76,000 seat stadium for an acceptance speech? A speech at the Brandenbueg Gate? His own special “presidential” seal? This guy is an out of control, egotistical asshat. And an outright liar on top of it. His remarks and attitude remind me more of Hitler than they do of Jack Kennedy.
I am cheering this development every step of the way, though. Many of my “Vote for Hillary” friends hate O!’s guts, and would not vote for him if he ran unopposed and really was the Messiah.
He is really just a power hungry, naive little butt boy who thinks he is incalculably smarter than the average bear.
You honkin’ at me, boy?
Jeez!
Did I just kill this whole thread?
Matter ‘o fact, Dog, yes you did. None will respond for fear of being labeled a butt boy.
One of the faint silver linings of this political season has been the overwhelming evidence that O! does not play well with others.
His Narrative doesn’t mix well with that of the womyns’ struggle with the patriarchy, for instance. After Hillary suspended, the message was pretty cler: shut up now, then show up to vote when they are supposed to. And bring in a damned beer, too, while they are at it.
O! is executing a hostile takeover of both the country and his party.
I’m interested to see if the Old Elite can stomach that. Long time to November.
And Obama just can’t pour piss out of a boot on the war or the economy, so it’s kind of up in the air whether the media will keep on pulling for the brother, too.
Mikey,
That’s a DCCC quote, but it’s still kinda revealing from the opposite perspective.
Three things:
1). to eliminate a Clinton requires five gallons of Jerusalem Holy water, a gold-tipped wooden stake, a sealed, high-pressure crematory, and a raging, high-wind thunderstorm (used to scatter ashes)
2). Hill announced she was suspending her campaign
3). She has asked her contributors to allow her to keep the money for her 2012 Senate race.
August is going to be so cool. But Denver will eb in flames.
2). Hill announced she was suspending her campaign
There are indications she may not have been entirely honest.

Imagine that.
COOL !!!
