TIME magazine’s profile of Michelle Obama reminds us of a standard Barack Obama claims to observe:
The latest strike came from the Tennessee Republican Party, which posted a YouTube ad ridiculing Michelle’s now famous “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country” remark. That prompted Barack Obama to throw down a gauntlet of his own. “I would never think of going after somebody’s spouse in a campaign,” he told Robin Roberts of Good Morning America. “She loves this country … And especially for people who purport to be promoters of family values … to start attacking my wife in a political campaign, I think, is detestable.”
However, in January, Team Obama twice accused Bill Clinton of playing the race card. And while some of Bill’s comments arguably did so, the two instances mentioned in the Obama campaign memo are a stretch. In the same month, Obama gave a widely-publicized interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal’s editorial board, expressing some admiration for Ronald Reagan, arguing that Reagan changed the direction of America in a way the “incremental†politics of Bill Clinton failed to do. Team Obama went further in February, sending out mailers blaming “the Clintons†for decimating the Democratic party throughout the 1990s.
Detestable? No. Politics as usual? Yes. Change we can believe in? Not so much.
(h/t Tom Maguire.)
Obama does this because he knows that no one in the media will ever call him on it. It must be nice knowing you have a colossal pro-bono propaganda staff working for you 24-7.
– #1 – Well that, and O! considers Hillery’s wife to be fair game.
I should add that Obama’s got a load of stones criticizing anyone who shows what an idiot his wife really is, considering that the only reason he’s a Senator right now is because of the Chicago media unsealing Jack Ryan’s divorce records. I guess that was okay.
What an asshole–and people think Hillary is worse?
How can y’all call Baracky hypocritical? Show me anywhere NPR has ever reported any hypocrisy about Baracky.
I’ll wait.
– Well no, I wouldn’t say hill-Bot is worse than him. But the Clintons did erite thr book on surrogate shunk politics. O! is just putting it to good use, and it is like old home day since thats exactly the political atmosphere he comes out of. so we can’t blame him. Its all those people that are trying to “help” him. Well except for Wright, Ayers, etc etc. BTW. Anyone else notice as we get closer to the 31st, a lot of the noise has died down?
This is just getting nuts,
But it is quite inconceivable that any leading male presidential candidate would be treated with such hatred and scorn as Clinton has been.

Where the hell were these people in 04?
Newsflash! Obama promises new Escalades to unemployed rappers by raising Puff Daddy and Fifty Cent’s taxes. R & B artists demand piece of Usher’s revenue for essential bling!
I do believe the corect term is ‘hyperocricy’.

UP off your knees.
You are CURED, Brother thor.
Karl, when a candidate’s spouse is a former President then a historically contexuatlized discussion of him/her is slightly more cogent and relevant versus discussions of the usual non-office holding spouse. Knowledge of historic political graces aside, that you can’t figure out this obviousness speaks loudly of your ham-headed acumen.
Maybe some late-afternoon latte might help.
Fuck. Thor is still keeping this shit up? A persistent bugger, ain’t he?
Also M’chelle doesn’t have herpes yet as far as we know. Bill Clinton gets these legion thingies on his penis. M’chelle’s cooter is clean and disease-free. But I guess we’re still waiting on Baracky’s medical records. Whatever happens we’ll deal with it together. The Democrats are united!
I said legion. That’s not what I meant. I meant lesion. As in runny sores.
Look, if Michelle don’t want people talking about her she needs to shut the fuck up and get her ass back in the kitchen. To the best of my knowledge, she started talking shit about us first.
If is reputation is earned, legion would also be applicable.
Because equating Bill Clinton’s “fairy tale” remarks with playing the race card is so highly contextualized.
Barack’s wife’s barking cooter is not open for debate. I doubt she can make it do that.
Something an Obama cannot do? I refuse to believe that!
O!
His opinion of Reagan as unifier versus Clinton is contextualized commentary of political history. You’d think you’d even tip your hat to Obama for openly recognizing that, but no, Obama-is-evil meme is like flypaper stuck to your tonsils.
Barack is sort of an evil demon name. Like something you would conjure from the pit. For real I think it’s the evilest-sounding president name ever.
– She gonna talk the talk, she gonna walk the walk, like it or not, or is she a gutless wonder like your sad ass thor. All you dickwad Proggs are real hero’s at dishing it out. You get it back, you whine like a girlyboiz.
Richard, Jimmy, Ronald, George, Bill, George again and then we get this BarâcK business. One of these things is not like the other.
Oops. I forgot Gerald.
I was supportive of O!’s comments on Reagan, and criticized the Clintons for misconstruing his remarks.
None of which changes the fact that O! was attacking Bill Clinton in the process.
A sober assessment wouldn’t be considered an attack, per se. Your fact toads don’t hop.
Well, everyone is just going soberly assess Michelle’s comments.
Not that thor has much familiarity with the concept of “sober.”
Eviler than Milhous? No, it cannot be.
O!
Whatever you do, don’t even think about saying Hussein. You dig?
BarâcK Hussein. Ohnoes. That’s a new direction for real.
Hey you stop that you shouldn’t demonize your political opponents cause it’s counterproductive really. Remember how they tried that with Moloch the Defiler, and he went on to be one of our most distinguished senators.
That one I had to Google.
“Moloch the Defiler” gets only 1 page hit in Google. I’ve never had that before.

#3. Ted Nugent’s Soul Patch: You really think Obama didn’t have something to do with the Chicago media finding out about Jack Ryan’s divorce records? Come on. We are talking about Southside Chicago politics.
Hey, B Moe.
But it is quite inconceivable that any leading male presidential candidate would be treated with such hatred and scorn as Clinton has been.

“Where the hell were these people in 04?”
They were giving Bill Clinton blow jobs for acting in the exact same way.
Are you seriously trying to compare the roles of Michelle Obama and Former President Clinton as having equal weight? Are you kidding me? That’s like comparing apples to aircraft carriers. What an utterly insipid comment.
Aircraft carriers can’t get herpes, silly.
Golly, here’s our old friend Nedra Pickler, reporting for the Associated Press the same day I posted:
But we should ignore her if it hurts O!, natch.

I can always tell when a site is pro-GOP, because of the frequent foul language and the namecalling. Such things are a sure giveaway that discussing the issues with reason and facts has run dry on them.
Oh, there certainly are some foulmouthed Democrats; it’s the preponderance of such people on the right that is telling.
The right is the side of hate and haters. It’s hard to be that way for long on the liberal side.
I, for example, do not support Hillary. The flap over her RFK comments was entirely media-driven. I saw her saying it, and understood that she might have said it better, by mentioning that RFK was assassinated while he was STILL campaigning as late as June, but it was clear enough that that’s what she meant. I don’t think for a minute she intended to plug any other meaning, however small, into her comment. She’s blameless, in my view, and the whole thing should be dumped and put behind us all.
That’s how Obama views it, too. It is his sense of balance, tolerance, flexibiity and decent common sense that makes me his supporter. Hillary would be a good president; Obama would be an outstanding one. So I support him. And I’m white, elderly and disabled, too. Demographics shouldn’t count in this race one bit, not with a choice like Obama available to us all.
Now, when it comes to having a foul mouth, let’s look at McCain, who called his wife (at a public political gathering a few years back) a trollop and a cunt.
He has a reputation for a hair-trigger temper, even among his associates in D.C., going into tantrums and spitting vile language at them. Is THIS the man who should lead our country? Is THIS the man who should have access to “the button”? AND, is this a man who can be trusted with the stewardship of women’s rights, considering how he speaks of, and to, his own wife in public?
The vast majority on the right are people who have “other agendas” that are more important to them than spending our military might more sensibly and profitably, fixing our broken infrastructure, schools, health care system and economy. And THAT can hardly be called patriotic, though such people splatter the word everywhere, as though they can use it to “paint over” their real, less-than-lovely motives.
And how can it possibly harm us if Obama would talk to dudes like Ahmadinijad? Those leaders ALREADY have legitimacy in the world. Meeting with them, however, would show a huge contrast between Obama and those leaders, one which will make them look, publicly and globally, like the oafs that they are. They will continue being intransigent, despite a large reaching out by our president. This will help us, not hurt us. It’s a no-brainer.
I encourage the Cubano-Americans to vote Obama. He might get more progress than past administrations have. Holding to the present policy has proven, over decades of time, to have accomplished zip. It wouldn’t be a “gift” to Raul Castro to have the president talk to him. On the contrary, it’d be a big challenge, one he’d probably fail to live up to. It was only by talking to the junta in Myanmar that the door opened for delivering aid to the people. A policy of “not talking” to this repressive regime would have left the people adrift, with no hope of aid. If the junta thinks they gained some world “validation” for their regime, let them. They’ll learn, later, that they actually lost status.
Obama is the first free-thinking politician we’ve had in decades. He’s one of a kind in the world. We’d be idiots to pass up the opportunities he can open up for our country.
The man has guts, speaking to audiences essentially hostile to him. He has steel, while his flexibility makes people (particularly our enemies) underestimate him and call him “weak”.
If you think you have to vote on the right for the sake of your membership in a particular religion, or the NRA, or simply because you don’t want a “N” in the White House, you can’t call yourself patriotic. If you have other reasons to vote GOP, non-selfish ones, that’s different. But bigots and greed and selfish agendas abound on the right, and take precedence over the REALLY important issues. That stinks.
And in many videos, even those featuring McCain, it was clear as a bell that rural poor folks are indeed “bitter.” They have reason to be. They do cling to their traditions regarding guns and religion, because they constitute the only stability they understand. In saying so, Obama was only speaking the truth. And his comment was sympathetic, not hostile.
Any of the “business as usual” politicians would continue to ignore them, and that probably includes Hillary Clinton. Obama thinks out of the box. He would not want to neglect anyone’s needs in America. He’ll try to address all Americans who have heretofore been neglected by government, and he means what he says.
Try basing your vote on issues for a change. Line up the issues in order of importance, then look at who’s most likely to address them successfully. Every time, it’ll be Obama.
Don’t you get it? It doesn’t matter if our next president is an emu or a giraffe. It’s what that president can DO for us that counts. The only candidate both able and willing to push our country forward, genuinely try to unite us, regain (by earning it) our status in the world, and still address all the domestic issues, is Obama.
The racists here keep thinking of him as a “N”, but forget (conveniently) that HALF of him is white. And he was raised by that half, too. Of all people, he knows the stupidity of racism. If you must be a racist anyway, then know that you are admitting that you’re stupid.
If the only way you think your party can win is by throwing mud, you ought to look at what your party really stands for, and whether that is likely to hurt or help the nation. Religious absolutism, reverence for guns, in preference to health care and education, and hatred of people who are different, aren’t things to stand for; they’re destructive.
Whether religious absolutists like it or not, they do NOT own morality. Nor is their version of it America’s morality. The generic morality is much broader. It doesn’t limit itself exclusively to sex-related issues. It includes values such as honesty and honor. The GOP has all but abandoned those values. No amount of lying or cheating is unacceptable, even pretending to be Democrats and then saying they’d do something that is clearly Republican in nature.
Of those so-called Hillary supporters, who say they’d vote McCain before Obama, the vast majority aren’t Dems at all, but Republicans, obeying Limbaugh’s “operation chaos,” which is as inherently despicable, morally, as you can get. Lots of Republicans love it, though. So much for morals in the GOP.
Obama is the first free-thinking politician we’ve had in decades. He’s one of a kind in the world. We’d be idiots to pass up the opportunities he can open up for our country.
The man has guts, speaking to audiences essentially hostile to him. He has steel, while his flexibility makes people (particularly our enemies) underestimate him and call him “weakâ€Â.
Eat your heart out, thor.
No shit. Now that’s how you do a screed. Jealous, I’m consumed with jealousy.
I can always tell when a site is pro-GOP, because of the frequent foul language and the namecalling. Such things are a sure giveaway that discussing the issues with reason and facts has run dry on them.
No fucking shit! I’ll tell you how else you can tell you’re on a pro-GOP site: when you see stupid dem boner-faces prattling on about how much better they are than everyone else and how they do everything based on purity of soul when in fact they’re just passing time between hand outs because they’re just grunt-heads.
Oh, eat me, bitch.
Holly:
Since you’re an elderly woman, I will curb my tongue–’cause like most conservatives, I’m a gentleman.
But really, that comment was dang silly. It was really sort of uninformed, both about Obama, who is a lying sack of shoot, and about this site. Actually, you apparently understand both about equally–which is to say, not one heck of a lot.
I can always tell when a site is pro-GOP, because of the frequent foul language and the namecalling.
I can always tell when somebody is a drive-by troll, because they blast in, excrete a cut-and-paste infodump, make idiotic generalizations about the nature of the site, toss around accusations of “racism” (without ANY evidence), then disappear without bothering to engage in the conversation.
The left is the side of lies and liars.
Case in point: Holly.
“Holly” won’t come back. Cowards like her never do.
It is [Obama’s] sense of balance
It’s all in the ears.
Holly. All you had to say was; “Rusty. Take me like a crazed weasel on meth!I’m yours!”
