NYT's Gail Collins clueless about white guys [Karl]

Gail Collins — once the editor of the New York Times editorial page — is vexed that white men are the swing vote in the Democrats’ presidential primary: “It’s got to be irking women and blacks. This was supposed to be all about us!”

The presumption of entitlement nearly oozes off the screen, as does the stereotyping of white men that accompanies it in her column.  In reality, the white male vote has been the swing vote throughout this cycle, just as they have been key to the Democrats’ overall weakness in presidential politics for decades.  Had Collins availed herself of Google, she could find plenty of analysis — some of it informed analysis — about the white male vote in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.  She even would have found some support for the few nuggets of intelligent observation in her column, like this:

The question at hand is: What do white men want?

Maybe not change — sorry, Barack. Pennsylvania is a state where change has not been a friend to your average white male, particularly the aging working-class ones who are the candidates’ prime target. Change left the state full of empty factories that towns keep desperately trying to make into condos or art museums.

Of course, had Collins done any homework, it might have sunk in with her that she is observing the degree to which members of the working class Democrats purport to champion have left or are leaving the Democratic Party, which seems poised to nominate another seemingly effete intellectual as their standard-bearer — the guy who bowls badly and passes up the Philly cheesesteak in favor of some fancy foreign ham.

Perhaps it is too much to expect that people from the New York Times display that level of curiousity about their subjects.  They are, after all, establishment journalists.

White men suck. Let’s just be honest here.

I am taking this opportunity to disown Ms. Collins from our storied clan. She has forgotten her origins. Or, if you prefer, she has “taken the soup”. White guys… especially typical white guys are just dumb! Why aren’t they impressed with the changiness of a black guy who has complete contempt for all things white? Why dont they want a perversely wealthy lying bitch for president? WTF, TWP?

  3. Yeah you can say a lot good about Senator Obama but he’s not exactly the most masculine guy in the world. Fred Thompson was about it for this year’s crop, even Senator McCain doesn’t exactly exude testosterone. If anyone does, it’s more Senator Clinton.

  4. donald says:

Being no fan of McCain, I would posit that he used up a lot of that testosterone in Viet Nam. He’d kick that skinny fucker’s ass all over the place.

    A really good golf swing.

That’s menapause. You can tell because of the high level of bitchiness.

  7. fmfnavydoc says:

“The historic contest between a woman and an African-American for the presidential nomination is now all about white men. Not that the white male voters asked for this. They’ve been uncommitted, supporting Hillary in one contest and Barack in the next.”

Geez, Gail – now you know how us men feel when our wives/girlfriends hound us to the ends of the Earth with the “Do you like the red dress or the green one” crap.

Memo to Gail – for men, if the conversation does not deal with powertools, sports or sex, we just don’t give a damn…

  8. Martin says:

The husband of Gail Collins is named Dan Collins. Is this the same “Dan Collins” that shows up here frequently, and if it is, why is he still married to her?

  9. Obstreperous Infidel says:

“This was supposed to be all about us!”

That says it all. Fucking morons with low self esteem. “Look at me! Please, make it be about me!” I’m sick of them trying to blame us for their lack of self esteem. Get over it bitch. Yes, my calling her a bitch has added to her low self esteem. My goodness. Whatever will I do.

  10. Ardsgaine says:

The accusation of effeteness is overblown, and anyway, I don’t think we should confuse effete behavior with effete policies. It’s not how he bowls, it’s whether he is going to stop Iran from acquiring atomic weapons. By focusing on irrelevancies, we shift the debate away from the important issues. That’s not good, because we need to make sure that McCain understands what we are voting for when we pull the lever for him. It will not be his bowling style, but his commitment to protecting this country from Teheran’s terrorist campaign.

  11. Dennis D says:

It is very simple. White men want a candidate who can bowl better than a 37.

  12. Ric Locke says:

I’m sorry. I don’t understand what the problem is.

As we have been informed ad nauseum over the last few years, we white males are entirely, only, and irredeemably a bunch of knuckle-dragging, -ist, -phobic, bigoted yahoos. Why in the world would you want our support? Won’t it contaminate your Righteous Cause®™(pat.appl.for)?

    Regards,
    Ric

If you proceed from the assumption that the country you are defending is the “US of KKK A” which developed the HIV virus to exterminate people of your daddy’s race, developed bombs that kill only people of your daddy’s race, which squandered any moral standing it may have had when it dropped atomic weapons on Japan and which had it coming on 9-11…are you really going to puff out your chest and insist that The Other drop his fists?

Shit, I can see Baracky himself handing Mahmoud the fucking weapons to punish us.

As an older white guy, I think I am qualified to add “airborne laser weapons” to that list. Thanks.

ps. Why? Because when moonbats say something won’t work and it ends up working like a mutherfucker, it gives me an incredible boner, and that’s a good thing, right Martha?

  19. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Mz Collins cannot comment on this. She’s inauthentic, having never lived the white male experience of slashing a sizzling 285 yarder with a 2 wood off the tee, with a slight dogleg to the left, hitting nothing but green, and rolling up 6 inches dead on the pin, or drilled a clean 1 inch hole throught that re-bar reinforced cinder block wall in 42.6 seconds, or achieved just the right amount of rolling friction, and perfectly synchronized shift points. as you shut down that factory sponsored douchebag team guy in the lane next to you by a full 1.206 seconds at Pomona.

    – No, our dear Mz Collins is just not a true white male. (Wait. She isn’t is she?)
