Dems 2008: Hoosier hypocrites now? [Karl]

Indiana’s Democratic chairman said his party is ready to challenge the votes of any lifelong Republicans who attempt to vote as Democrats in the May 6 primary.  This despite the fact that Indiana has an open primary.

Meanwhile, the Indiana Democratic Party is currently challenging the state’s voter ID law in the US Supreme Court.

In short, Indiana Democrats want to suppress voting by past Republicans, but welcome non-citizen voters.  That whole “count every (non-military) vote” mantra Democrats have been chanting since 2000 turns out to be not as iron-clad as previously thought.

Update: Allah-lanche!

  1. McGehee says:

The implicit conclusion of the slogan is, “…that agrees with my vote.”

  2. JD TWP says:

Karl – Their perfidy knows no bounds.

On a side note, Baracky is buying votes here in Indiana as he has partnered with Dave “I love the environment but dump shit in the Chicago River” Mathews to sponsor a couple free concerts in Bloomington and Indianapolis. They are couching it as a voter registration activity, but really, they are just giving away concert tickets in college towns. I guess it is better than giving away cigarettes and crack.

  3. Karl says:

Although the Matthews story was always funny, it’s funnier when you know that the Chicago River is historically a sewer.

  4. happyfeet says:

Why don’t they just beg teh UN for help again? If they want to act like a third world polity, they really need the UN to get the flavor right I think.

  5. MayBee says:

Did the evil Bush finally pry the Commission on Civil Rights out of the control of Mary Frances Berry? Cause she would be so all over this, I just know it.

  6. Dan Collins says:

    What’s your name?
    Hoosier Daddy?

  7. Indiana’s Democratic chairman said his party is ready to challenge the votes of any lifelong Republicans who attempt to vote as Democrats in the May 6 primary. This despite the fact that Indiana has an open primary.

That’s going to be pretty tough to get past court.

  8. JD TWP says:

Baracky started running TV commercials here this week? Did you know that he does not take money from lobbyists or big business? Fucking liar.

  9. JD TWP says:

That does it. I am voting for Hillary in the Dem primary.

  10. kelly says:

It must be an awful burden to carry. Y’know, the purity of motive it takes to be a liberal progressive Democrat. Rules? Who gives a shit? Change them to suit the need. But remember, they’re doing so out of purity of motive.

  11. psycho... says:

It’s fine to point at these things to make yourself feel better, but no charge of hypocrisy leveled at any leader (or group of them) carries any weight with any of their followers (or fellows). Ever. None. No.

It can only reinforce their bond.

But if that makes you feel better…

  12. JD TWP says:

Lying disingenuous crap weasels, they are. I will puke a little in the back of my mouth, but I am getting a Dem ballot and will vote for whoever I damn well please. Mr. Parker from the IN Dem party. I dare you and your poll people to try to make me sign some kind of loyalty pledge. Please, please, please do it. I beg of you.

  13. Techie says:

I will sign a “loyalty oath” to the Democratic Party.

Then I will pull out a lighter and burn it in front of them.

  14. N. O'Brain says:

    COUNT EVERY VOTE!

    SELECTED, NOT ELECTED!

    Any more tired liberal cliches?

  15. Karl says:

    psycho,

Agreed, though the post is not raelly for the Dems.

  16. Wade says:

Incidentally, won’t Democrats need to see the IDs of primary voters to guarantee that they’re not lifelong Republicans posing as non-citizens?

  17. BJTexs TW/BP says:

    Any more tired liberal cliches?

“Hi, I’m from the Democratic Party and I’m here to help!”

Although the Matthews story was always funny, it’s funnier when you know that the Chicago River is historically a sewer.

I suppose I will have to acknowledge your knowledge base there, since you seem to know little of the ACLU and Democratic Party challenge to Indiana’s law. I went to the ACLU website to look this up and they opposed the law because it kept poor, and especially older people, from going to the polls. No mention, shockingly, of supporting the dreaded illegal horde of Hispanic aliens from voting in Indiana (apparently a hotbed of illegal immigration?).

While it seems impossible to restrict voting in Indiana’s primary to members of the Democratic party and it’s stupid anyway, shouldn’t you be a trifle honest….just a bit..n when you characterize a legal argument?

Sorry that was rhetorical, I already know the answer.

  19. JD TWP says:

Free voter ID cards can be distributed to anyone that requests them. How exactly, IJS, does this disproportionately effect them?

If your brain was a tenth the size of your ego, you would know that in different areas of the state, there are fairly significant problems with illegal immigration. Not to the extent of the border states, but it certainly has an impact.

You lecturing Karl on honesty is spew-worthy.

  20. McGehee says:

it kept poor, and especially older people, from going to the polls.

He’s right. The voter ID law sneaks around to these people’s houses on the night before the election and steals the spark plug wires.

Then it nails their doors shut. True story.

(Anyone but me think the implicit conclusion on IJS’s handle is “Any Bullshit that Pops into My Head”..?

  21. Terrye says:

    I’m Just saying:

I live in Indiana and I do not know one single person who has ever been turned away when they went to vote. I do not know anyone who thinks showing ID is a big deal. Most of the older people I know vote absentee and the ones that do not have no problem getting free picture ID. I don’t even know any Democrats who think showing ID is a problem. It is not a big deal to regular. They have to show ID to buy a pack of cigarettes.

As for stopping Republicans from voting, I don’t see how they can do that. When I registered to vote, I just registered, there was no party registration. I have been known to split tickets from time to time. The whole thing is absurd.

  22. Cowboy says:

…and IJS, Hoosiers are very concerned about illegal immigration and if you knew anything about our state, you’d know that the concern is a legitimate one.

  23. Cowboy says:

    JD:

Say what you will about Baracky, his team has chosen the concert cities well. Indianapolis, with its large number/percentage of African Americans, and Bloomington with its comically “stuck-in-the-60’s” liberal population! Their thinking couldn’t be more transparent.

  24. alppuccino says:

Wow! Indiana has an illegal immigration problem? But there’s so much agriculture in Indiana. Don’t the illegal immigrants usually flock to states that have a lot of English teacher job openings?

IJS, change your last name to Stupid.

  25. alppuccino says:

    BTW JD,

Cleveland High Schools beat the Indy High Schools in grad rate. That’s gotta be like lemon juice on a paper cut right there dude.

  26. Cowboy says:

Yeah, al, the only consolation is that Detroit’s was so much lower!

    Indianapolis’ new city motto:

“Hey, at least we’re better than Detroit!!”

  27. JD TWP says:

It is painful as far as reputation. My child, soon to be children, live in Hamilton County, where the graduation rates are at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

  28. Karl says:

    IJS,

The Democrats are arguing in terms of the poor and the old (fatuously, as others have noted) as opposed arguing that the law impedes illegals and voter frauds of the sort perpetrated regularly by Lefty groups like ACORN? Maybe that’s because the latter is dead-bang loser in a court of law, and in the court of public opinion.

Apparently, you are ignorant of the trend for Dems to promote illegals, both in campaigning and in voting rights legislation. Not that your ignorance is in any way surprising.

  29. alppuccino says:

My child, soon to be children, live in Hamilton County, where the graduation rates are at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

    Typical rich white guy.

  30. Karl says:

Oh, I forgot Wisconsin, where Dems opposed Voter ID laws and seemed to have engaged in massive voter fraud in 2004.

  31. JD TWP says:

You got the TWP part right. Rich? It depends on the definition being used today. By Baracky’s standards, we are wealthy. By most normal standards, no so much. But we are rich in friends and blessings.

    Racist

  32. Jim in KC says:

Yeah, add Missouri in there, too, Karl.

  33. B Moe says:

I went to the ACLU website to look this up and they opposed the law because it kept poor, and especially older people, from going to the polls. No mention, shockingly, of supporting the dreaded illegal horde of Hispanic aliens from voting in Indiana (apparently a hotbed of illegal immigration?).

Dude that might be the stupidest fucking thing you have ever posted here.

  34. Karl says:

    B Moe,

Don’t you reflexively believe whatever a lawyer taking one side of a case says as Gospel? Shame on you!

  35. B Moe says:

Oh sure, Karl, and if their true motive was to enable voter fraud by noncitizens, they would be sure to spell that out in their court documents. You don’t think they would be dishonest about something like that, do you?

  36. Jim in KC says:

See, in Missouri, it’s considered no big deal that I have to pay $15 to get a birth certificate to get a new ID with a concealed carry endorsement (not to mention the additional $225 for the class and the application), but the end of the world if I have to pay $15 to get a birth certificate to get an acceptable ID to vote.

Our Supreme Court has some odd ideas about rights, is all I can say. Voting is a right, but not the ability to have the most viable means of protecting my very life itself readily at hand? Right. And I’m an elephant in a tutu.

  37. B Moe says:

Voting is a right, but not the ability to have the most viable means of protecting my very life itself readily at hand?

Bearing arms is a Constitutional right, voting is not. This is probably going to explode some troll heads, but there is no Constitutional right to vote.

  38. bigbooner says:

But if you are dead then you have a right to have someone help you vote.

  39. Jim in KC says:

The more ‘splodey troll heads, the better, in my opinion.

  40. Karl says:

BTW, I hope IJS will explain how Democrat election judges will be identifying alleged Republicans at the polls.

  41. bergerbilder says:

    Cowboy and al,

Detroit has a lower graduation rate because their standards are so much higher.

/and Akron’s standards are even higher, yet.

  42. […] Karl explains it all to you. Considering whom Operation Chaos is designed to benefit — and may be benefiting — Hillary-supporter Dan Parker is a man of high principle. Or an abject moron. Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker said he is concerned Republicans may try to cast crossover votes to skew results in the close presidential primary between U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. […]

  43. JD TWP says:

Karl – Loyalty oaths, pinkie swears, poll taxes, and you have to declare who you voted for in the last 3 presidential and 5 congressional elections. I am going to tell my poll worker that I usually vote Republican.

  44. baldilocks says:

I know a lot of poor people and a lot of old people. Strangely enough, they all have IDs–especially the old people since they have checks in need of cashing.

The ACLU is FOS. But we knew that.

  45. Obstreperous Infidel says:

    “Apparently, you are ignorant”

Apparently, Karl? He’s got a big fucking neon sign advertising his ignorance. I’d say he’s a complete dumbfuck.

  46. Sean M. says:

My Grandma and Grandpa were old and they lived in Indiana, and I can assure you that they both had valid ID until the day they died.

As an aside, since they also spent time living in Chicago, I can take comfort in the fact that they’re likely still voting there. Along with several of my other deceased relatives.

  47. Dude that might be the stupidest fucking thing you have ever posted here.

heh, B Moe, we could go to town with that kind of logic couldn’t we?

I checked whitehouse.gov and couldn’t find any statements about how President Bush wanted to shred the Constitution so I’m not sure why anyone would think he would.

  48. Belvedere jones says:

“As for stopping Republicans from voting, I don’t see how they can do that. When I registered to vote, I just registered, there was no party registration.”

Yeah. All you do is walk in and tell them which primary you’re participating in. I don’t normally vote in primaries, since most everything around here in the wonderful 7th District is settled; but I have voted in each primary more than once. Of course, when I do the mailman treats me to 2 years of Party blather. More importantly, the voter rolls identify me as [whichever] when I show up for the general election, so I have to correct it back to Independent.

  49. I know a lot of poor people and a lot of old people. Strangely enough, they all have IDs–especially the old people since they have checks in need of cashing.

Being a poor person, I can assure you that even I can come up with 15 bucks every 4 years to get ID so I can vote.

  50. Rusty says:

Karl. To be fair they now hold fishing tournaments in the Chicago River, albeit for carp, but there was a fishing show recently which was shot on the Chicago River, bass were caught.
On the plus side, everyone who votes in Chicago is still a democrat and may vote often.

  51. Karl says:

I wish the audio was online of the first Mayor Daley talking about hoping to have fish in the river, and that people would be able to go down and catch a fish at lunchtime, etc., as the assembled press howls with laughter.

  52. Noah D says:

Jim in KC #36, spot on.

I’ll be thinking about the ICLU/ACLU and their ‘it hurts the poor and old!’ as I fill out the paperwork for my new AR (on which you cannot even abbreviate, lest it be considered bad paper), watch the dealer fill out their paperwork (some of which must be a specific ink color), act as an untrained intermediary beween two FFL holders so I can have the part-that-the-BATFE-considers-a-gun mailed one state over, etc.

  53. Gekkobear says:

Indiana’s Democratic chairman said his party is ready to challenge the votes of any lifelong Republicans who attempt to vote as Democrats in the May 6 primary. This despite the fact that Indiana has an open primary.

“That’s going to be pretty tough to get past court.”

Naah, it’ll never go to court. The goal here is voter suppression. You know, what the Democrat make up stories every two years about to claim the other side cheated?

This is how you’d go about doing it if you were crooked and looking to break various voting laws. This is what you’d do. You’d get the party leaders (people directly tied to the party) to deliberately make misstatements and lie in order to try to fool people who would vote against you in order to suppress their votes.

This is the first time I’ve really seen good clear evidence of voter suppression, and seen it tied to a major party. Color me shocked that its the Democrats who are engaging in this behavior. I’m so disillusioned.

  54. Drama Queen says:

I just emailed Mr. Parker to let him know how silly he is. It felt good!

Now going back to my popcorn.

  55. geekrunner says:

I wouldn’t think anything’s settled in the 7th, Belvedere. I’m crossing over to vote against Julia’s grandson, Andre Carson. I’m absolutely certain that Jon Elrod will get the Pubbie nod, but I’ll be damned if another Carson is going to be my congresscritter for another bazillion years. As far as Hussein v. Billary, I suppose I’ll be in Operation Chaos mode.

  56. Scott says:

Efforts by the Indiana Democratic Party to kill the voter ID law have a lot more to do with defending questionable voting practices and other shady Democratic get-out-the-vote behaviors in certain counties (Lake, Marion, Monroe, Clark, Crawford, I could go on) than it does with illegal aliens, the population of which in Indiana is rather negligible.

I would be surprised if this was substantially or significantly enforced in a lot of Indiana counties. Republicans control something like three quarters of the county election boards in the state (and a majority of the inspectors at the individual precincts; in 59 or so of 92 counties), and it is they who would have ultimate say. It is probably posturing by Parker to cover his rear, since Indiana is a heavily Republican state and there will be a significant amount of crossover voting that will benefit his favored candidate.

In southern Indiana, where Democrats are more dominant than in most other parts of the state, it is not uncommon for Republicans to have an unchallenged primary slate and for most Republicans to vote in the Democrat primary in order to throw their primary selection process. We have been doing our own version of Operation Chaos for decades.

  57. Belvedere jones says:

#55 – “I wouldn’t think anything’s settled in the 7th, Belvedere. I’m crossing over to vote against Julia’s grandson, Andre Carson.”

Well, this year shoud be interesting like the last couple years. But look how bad things had to get before Peterson and the C-CC got their just due. And no, I don’t want another Carson either — hopefully Jacobs is ancient enough history that he’ll have no effect.

Someone mentioned Indy’s graduation rate in re Cleveland and Detroit. I had an idea for a billboard – Peterson smiling, with arms outstretched, and the quote “Welcome to Little Detroit!”. Another would read, “Sure, violent crimes are increasing but, hey, so is our dropout rate!”.

  58. Keith_Indy says:

Good information here, some more directly from the SOS.

    http://www.in.gov/sos/elections/hava/2007%20Media%20Kit/General%20Information%20on%20Challenging%20a%20Voter.pdf

Im thinking of voting for Hillary in the primary, because I just dont want to see her quit.

  59. That’s hard to do, considering that there is nothing but registered voters in Indiana, no registered Democrats or Republicans, just voters. At the primary, you tell them which ballot you want. Period. There are all kinds of reasons for cross voting, and it happens regularly, and always has.

  60. Rev. Wright's Disciple says:

The duplicity of the Grand Old Fascists here is astounding! All of you Dittoheads are going to goosestep to the polls as ordered by Rush (Joseph Goebbels) Limbaugh and vote for Hillary only because you know that WAR HERO John (“I’m not changing anything Bush did wrong”) McCain can beat her but HE CAN’T BEAT HOPE!!

  61. guinsPen says:

He won’t have to. You people are writing the book on beating yourselves.
