Swiftboating, Revisited [Dan Collins]

Harsh criticism of Obama’s ex-pastor’s hate-filled rants?

Lynching.

Criticism of Obama for putting up with that shit?

Crucifixion.

Nice to see young Reverend Otis moving beyond all the baggage of Jeremiah’s generation.  Why, if he doesn’t win the election, it will be a downright assassination.

Your halo needs a bit of polishing there, bud. And Joan of Aaargh! points out one of the good Reverend Otis’s academic productions, Blow the Trumpet in Zion, a cursory examination of which reveals it to be a thinly veiled anti-American Marxist tract that is full of bizarre accusations, false statistics, fraudulent information, and bad-faith argumentation.

  1. Otis Moss is a second generation of Black Liberation Theology. He, along with his father and several others, co-authored a book called, Blow the Trumpet in Zion.

  2. Dan Collins says:

They can blow my trumpet, Joan.

  3. Oh, and Jeremiah Wright was in on that book, as well. I’m just sayin’. It’s deep and wide, the ingrained mindset of this crowd. I’ve been watching this stuff since the early 80’s, here in the South.

  4. Dan Collins says:

No, thanks very much. I just read about 10 pages. It would take a great deal to properly fisk that, but I might give it a go.

  5. happyfeet says:

Otis hates Jews a lot. People should keep an eye on Otis I think.

  6. Jeffersonian says:

Moss delivered a fiery sermon Sunday, defending the African-American church’s right to speak out about social issues. He stressed Trinity’s work in its still-impoverished community, mentioning the church’s scholarship programs, drug counseling, SAT prep classes, and missions to Africa.

I bet they’d have the trains running right on time, too.

  7. happyfeet says:

I know. That’s so Hezbollah how they try to be their own little welfare state.

  8. Dan Collins says:

A thousand points of anti-Semitic light.

  9. Jeffersonian says:

When you’ve declared yourself the new Chosen People, it’s pretty clear that yesterday’s Chosen People have to vacate the premesis.

  10. Daryl Herbert says:

Otis 3 co-authored (and is therefore most responsible for) chapter 19, starting at page 153. I couldn’t get Google book search to show those pages. Maybe someone could visit a library and “check it out,” so to speak.

Jackbooting white grandmothers? Bus-tossing elderly white folk? French-kissing white babies?

It’s time we question this man’s judgment! Time to start vetting young Hussein Obama! No serpent wrapped in zebra skin can survive my God’s vet-fu! My God Goddamns BlaKKK Churches!

  12. a reader says:

When I was young and broke in the early 80’s I lived in a section of LA that had few white people (few as in none). My black (natch) roommate’s sister who was on welfare was convinced that Reagan was the anti-christ. She could never figure out why he had not been shot in the head since everybody knows that he gets a head injury. I started to laugh the first time she said it until I realized that she was not kidding.

Now my (quite) white mother keeps muttering the same thing about Barack. Crazy ain’t got no color.

  13. a reader says:

Sorry mom, that should read ‘mother-in-law’. My mother is crazy in a completely different direction, i.e. Socialism works, etc…

  14. TmjUtah says:

I find it harder to take the Obama candidacy seriously as each day goes by. This is troubling, since he will be the Democratic nominee. The gathering rush by media to not offend the folks of (the (W)right) color will be dwarfed by the flopsweat pandering yet to come from the hallowed halls of the DNC.

Of course, I’m just a white devil (Sioux extraction not withstanding), so maybe that explains my confusion.

  15. cranky-d says:

I don’t believe that anyone has said they don’t have a right to speak out on any subject. However, others have a right to criticize their ideas and debunk their pet theories, and ultimately, to point and laugh when they say something unhinged. That goes for anyones statements, from any culture or social station or level of fame. It’s part of what this country is ultimately about. If you cannot stand to have your notions criticized, don’t share them with others.

I’m not sure where the idea that one can say anything without getting a response came from, but it is an erroneous assumption.

  16. rita says:

Obama can denounce this paster all he wants. He has been going to these sermons for 20 years? Geez, he would have had to absorb some of this anti-American, racicist rhetoric, even if he slept through most of the sermons.

  17. Synova says:

No one is criticizing that church for their social activism, community outreach, or good works.

That it seems necessary to have an enemy in order to motivate those things is a different issue entirely.

For 20 years I’ve been drug to many flavors of Christian and Judaic houses of worship yet I have always remained a steadfast Atheist. What motivates me to the Lord’s house of worship is that while everyone prays I can gaze at, leer at and covet visions of my having my way with every man’s wife and daughter within the hallowed walls.

If I can do it and get away with it then so can Barack, because, you see, it’s not always about some Reverend’s rhetoric, it’s about the nookie.

  19. Tim P says:

I’m not sure where the idea that one can say anything without getting a response came from…

Me neither, but it sure has been popular with groups like islamist fanatics, Communist regimes, oh, and the American left to name a few.

What I find fascinating is that all these diverse groups employ the same rhetorical tricks, gripes and methods of thought control to keep their troops whipped up with racial hatred, class envy, current politically correct notion of the day, fill in the blank.

The common thread being that a) they are the victims in all of this and b)there has to be some ‘other’ who is to blame for our problems because if un-oppressed, their world would a garden of Eden.

As was written in one of the links..

The criticism surrounding Wright has not softened the services at Trinity United Church of Christ, where Obama has been a congregant for 20 years. Instead, Moss defiantly defended their method of worship, referencing rap lyrics to make his point.”If I was Ice Cube I’d say it a little differently — ‘You picked the wrong folk to mess with,’” Moss said to an enthusiastic congregation, standing up during much of the sermon, titled “How to Handle a Public Lynching.”

What I find really scary, but not surprising is that so many on the left are doing rhetorical back-flips to try to make this venomous drool sound like it’s mainstream and is Black Liberation Theology is what’s preached in the majority of African American churches. Then also implying that they don’t really mean it, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Just like Obama really didn’t mean all that anti-NAFTA talk.

The curtain’s been pulled back and the wizard stands exposed. Meanwhile, the wicked witch of the West stands smiling at the edge of town with her flying monkeys. I can’t wait for the democratic convention.

  20. SteveG says:

Obama clearly sees Wright from the eyes of the little kid.
A little black kid who needed a black father figure found one in Wright… Obama is too immature to be President. He should stay in the Senate.

  21. SteveG says:

Great sermon topic for Good Friday… except it sorta deviates from the text. Seems Jesus said “forgive them Father they know not what they do” as he went to his lynching. But then again, Wright and his flock seem pretty out of touch with Jesus anyway

  22. Petle4, says:

God didn’t forgive them. He damned them. Obama is probably going to lose his seat. Maybe he can go back to his church and help at the soup kitchen?

  23. Jeffersonian says:

Did you know Jesus was lynched? It’s in the Bible. So he sez.

  24. JD says:

Moss delivered a fiery sermon Sunday, defending the African-American church’s right to speak out about social issues.

cranky-d made an excellent point on this earlier, that bears repeating. This is standard Leftist boilerplate drivel. When the Left makes some unsubstantiated BS claim, and they get called on it, they often resort to claims of “stomping out dissent”, “squelching debate”, etc … They intentionall conflate criticism of their ridiculous positions with some idea that their right to speak out is being infringed. It is as if they believe they have a right to say whatever they want, whenever they want, and be free of any criticism whatsoever.

  25. lee says:

    @ #19:

Ya know thor, back when Thompson was still in the race, I took one of those questionnaires to see what candidate most agreed with me. Obama was at the bottom of my list, and the most liberal voting member of the senate.

I have the distasteful duty of voting for McCain, but I decided way back that if McCain lost, I would rather have Hillery as president than Obama.

All the crap about Obama, the way he handled the middle name thing, the NAFTA flap, Fararro, the “cult of personality” aurora he has going on, and now this, doesn’t change anything about the decision, just gives confirmation for it.
I actually still respect Obama though. He is making a great run beyond the State level, even if he is unsuitable for the Presidency.

    This however:

For 20 years I’ve been drug to many flavors of Christian and Judaic houses of worship yet I have always remained a steadfast Atheist. What motivates me to the Lord’s house of worship is that while everyone prays I can gaze at, leer at and covet visions of my having my way with every man’s wife and daughter within the hallowed walls.

made me lose all respect for you.

  26. thor says:

Lee, I also think deflowering thoughts when my mind goes idle in a room of chicks wearing boardroom business attire. I used to love watching my first wife dress to go downtown to work every morning. Sex with women in their Sunday best or power dresses is sort’a a personal fetish. I don’t think I’m alone.

I respect every person’s faith, except Muslims, of course. This makes me unpopular with other Atheists who seem to think they’re so, so elevated by mere rote of their Atheism. My Mom sits on the board of directors of a nice big church. She’s like Obama in that she has a personal affinity to her church so I can see where Obama is coming from.

Hillary Clinton is an aging corrupted slut. Anyone who’d vote for that bitch needs a knock upside the head. Pant suits are a boner kill.

  27. psycho... says:

If I was Ice Cube I’d say it a little differently — ‘You picked the wrong folk to mess with’

So is no one going to point out the actual words to that song? And how the reporters’ either not knowing them or pretending not to know them makes that rendering of Moss’s line misleading in exactly the way you’d predict?

A search for Cube lyrics that includes the phrase “Fuck Amerikkka” will clear that shit up for you, if you don’t have Death Certificate memorized.

But if you’re in your 30s, you can’t rightly call yourself white if you haven’t been straining lines from that record into everyday conversation for almost twenty years now.

Dude, you’re repressing many, many unspeakable thoughts. Ask Freud. And if you were to gander at the babe I live with and not have to gulp back your sexual desires then you’re gay. I know that. She knows that. Poor needy angel, she’s cursed by her natural good looks… and me. Lo, I have faith in your ability to repress. Have faith in mine.

  31. lee says:

Dude, you’re repressing many, many unspeakable thoughts. Ask Freud.

Yeah, no shit. I don’t have to ask Freud, Paul said it (Romans:7,14-24) a couple thousand years before.

Lo, I have faith in your ability to repress. Have faith in mine.

    Again, you said:

What motivates me to the Lord’s house of worship is that while everyone prays I can gaze at, leer at and covet visions of my having my way with every man’s wife and daughter within the hallowed walls.

    Sorry, you’re a primate.

I’m not gay, but no matter how hot you’re girlfriend is, I would have no carnal desire for her. My girlfriend is beautiful enough(to me) to focus all my lust with her.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate a pretty girl, it’s just a matter of having a disciplined, mature mind and soul.

    NO GUILT – NO TIME 4 B.S.

I have some thoughts – what about the fact that a the pastor of the Mr. Wright in the house of God and took Gods name in vain screaming GOD D*MN AMERICA over and over again, while the church audience cheered him on — yeah sorry but I dont spend one minute on white guilt in fact the only people pushing racism into another decade
are in fact black and excuse me pal that is a fact, I dont have time for racisium in fact at this point if you do you need to get a life and by the way this is America
you have no specical exclusive rights to words starting with the letter N

Obama, — give the country a break
You went after ” Bill Clinton” after the South Carolina primary comparing Jesse Jackson 1980’s South Carolina primary results, to Obamas South Carolina primary results. Bill Clinton in fact was citing a political statistical fact and nothing more
Then Mr. Obama you were so offended at Geraldine Ferraro for citing a political reality
and now you are crying because you have ties to an absolute racist pastor

Grow up Obama even a fool could have seen this coming you brought it on yourself
and by the way that sorry half assed excuse for a response speech you gave —
please oh I have white friends to — which had nothing to do with the issues

Hey Obama this American aint typical

    PS

Pass this along to your racist Pastor

    – I’m going to take the high road on this issue.

    – ……..?

    – ……..?

    – ……..?

    – Crap…..Now that I think about it, there is no high road.

    – Anyhoo. You think about it, of you serious;y are contemplating voting for Obama, whom will certainly win the primary or the peace loving Black Liberation movement will set several major cities on fire, when you think about it in its entirety, you’re faced with a number of possibilities.

    – Either Obama was us’in the good rev to gain a foothold in local/national politics, or he harbors secret beliefs that align with the rev.

    – In either case, as Pres. what would he do? What could he do? realistically speaking, not a hell of a lot that was seen as too biased toward anyone group, beyond a few earmarks or bill fundings, or directed contracts. The most powerful office in the world is practically impotent in terms of solo actions. The day to day running of the country, and the big cahoona decisions are generally effected by any one of an endless parade of committees and advisers. So to be honest I don’t really see that as a show stopper. This is even true when it comes to Iraq. He panders to the hard left, and anti-war/pacifists to keep them on the reservation, but no Pres. is going to set himself up for impeachment right out of the starting gate, so I don’t really think he’ll do anything like he says. Aside from that, it would be impossible to yank that many troops out all that fast anyway, and these things tend to take on a life of their own,

    – The other “possibility” I see floating around the intertubes a lot lately is this idea that he would feel free to go ahead with throwing the Iraqi’s under the bus, and just use the mediots in the Leftwing press to shift all the blame to GWB. I don’t think he’d be able to count on that flying if you had 10’s of thousands of Iraq people being slaughtered wholesale on a daily basis, with no end in sight. That sort of ongoing disaster would say “massive Democratic cluster fuck” writ large. So I’m not ready to buy that either.

    – In other words, I don’t boy a lot of the “reasons” I hear being talked about as a viable list of show stoppers.

    – Myself, I simply won’t vote for him because hes a Socialist, and would work to appoint Liberal judges to the bench as often as possible. Those are the real law/Constitution interpretation weak spots, that can effect serious change over geberations to come. The Dems know this, hell they invented the back door ploy.

    – Thats all the reason I need. In spades.

My Easter service topic for the Holiest day of the year was “He is Risen, Alleluia” Where in the Bible does hatred fit into the the real Gospel. That it was Jesus who was crucified and suffered and died for us, poor and pitiful sinners that cannot do anything on their own for their salvation. He died and was buried and rose again so that we could have eternal life for those that believe in Jesus, the only begotten son.

My comment is simple. I am not antimuslim. But islamofacism is real and funded by billions of saudi petro dollars. That said:
Why is it so much easier to defend Rev. Wright then Farakken? The excuses are the same. Helps AIDS patients…yep. Homeless?….yep. …people in prison…absolutely!!!
So why is it ok for Wright but not Farakken? Is it because the media is islamaphobic?

I condem them both, because they are the same whether they use Jesus or Muhhamed as their excuse. If someone in the MSM brings this up it will be very hard for Obama. He can’t say so easily that he can’t disown Farakken because its like disowning black people can he? Whats the difference expcept prophet of choice? The excuses cover both from his “amazing” speech.

  46. celebrim says:

    “Social Gospel?”

The basis of ‘social gospel’ is the rejection that Christians should recieve suffering gladly and return good for evil, and explicitly a rejection of any God which would require this. Read James Cone, for example, to whose teachings Rev. Wright says TUCC is committed:

“The black theologian must reject any conception of God which stifles black self-determination by picturing God as a God of all peoples. Either God is identified with the oppressed to the point that their experience becomes God’s experience, or God is a God of racism…The blackness of God means that God has made the oppressed condition God’s own condition. This is the essence of the Biblical revelation. By electing Israelite slaves as the people of God and by becoming the Oppressed One in Jesus Christ, the human race is made to understand that God is known where human beings experience humiliation and suffering…Liberation is not an afterthought, but the very essence of divine activity. (A Black Theology of Liberation, pp. 63-64)

    And:

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

‘Social Gospel’ theology is a necessary condition of merging Christianity with Marxism. You need to create something like ‘social gospel’ or else give up Marxism, and James Cone is pretty explicit about it. If God is not the God of racial hatred and Marxist Revolution, then he says that that God must be rejected and a new one – suitable to put in the place of the former one must be invented. If God loves white people, then James Cone – and Jeremiah Wright – says that God must be hated.

The real irony here is that this very same argument has been used by white surpremists to justify versus white identity theologies which are nominally Christian but reject core Biblical teachings. Replace ‘black’ with ‘white’ and ‘white’ with black in the above quotations, and you could hear the same teachings in an Aryan Nation church. I say irony, but among the core teachings of Black Liberation doctrine is that blacks are justified in engaging in racism and hatred because of the evil and persecution that has been done to them. So really it’s not that ironical, because any time you fill yourself with hatred you are almost certain to become very much like that thing that you hate.

  47. sherlock says:

#26 said: “It is as if they believe they have a right to say whatever they want, whenever they want, and be free of any criticism whatsoever.”

That’s because if they ran things, that is exactly the way it would be, wouldn’t it? Free speech for me, but not for thee.

Had dinner with three visiting Canadians the other night. They had nothing but insults to offer about America, Bush, etc. and were totally in love with Obama. After listening to them respectfully for about 30 minutes, I ventured to disagree is a polite way about some point of theirs. Within a couple of minutes they were all shouting at me so loudly and angrily that the restaurant manager came over and asked us to tone it down of leave, as we were bothering the other guests.

That’s pretty typical lefty/lib behavior I have found – tolerance is something they resolutely insist on in others, but since they alone know truth, it is tough for them to observe it themselves (and I have had that argument made to me in all seriousness).

  48. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – #47 …..There is nothing I have seen anyone say, nor that I can think of personally, that makes this mis-placed racial mess “Right”. As far as I can tell, having listened to it rage on for weeks now, its 100% “Left”. You guys are simply obsessed with the race issue, and you won’t let go of it, because its your holy grail…..without it the Black community could actually begin to moave on and step up to a full responsible citizenship, with color being absolutely unimportant, no more important than the brand of toothpatse they use, or the male of car they drive. You just won’t let that happen because you’ve used it for generations to “keep ’em down”…..I’ve heard reams and reams of the condescending things your side says, and frankly I find it disgusting.

    – So take you’re sanctimonious, self-loathing, Utopian bullshit and use it to go screw yourself. We’re not going to play your game anymore, and hopefully Black America will decide the sane at some point. RIP Socialism, and all its butt crack ugly sisters.

Perusing this thread, I think the smartest thing is Thor’s observation. If people listened to pastors, then there’d be a helluva lot of less “sinning” going around and I wouldn’t have so many Catholic friends, married for a decade, with only two kids.

The dumbest thing is JD’s fake website name. Yes, JD, you are to the heart of it. Obama is a racist. But does he hate his white half or his black half? I guess you see a lot of your own self-loathing in others? You are just a clown.

  51. JD says:

IJS – Better a clown than a skidmark on the universe’s underwear.

why not tell us now about Pat Robertson a few other hate-filled white ministers who endorse conservbative candidates? that’s ok, cause they are white, right?

The issue isn’t about Wright endorsing Obama, the issue is about Obama endorsing Wright. Note that Robertson (who has lost a lot of popularity with conservatives anyway) gets routinely hung around the necks of Republican candidates who don’t have nearly the direct and long-established ties with him as Obama does with Wright.

As for the first point, give it a rest. Racism is racism. Is a white guy absolved for joining the Klan if he has had a tough dirt-poor life? By your logic, Wright has no business criticizing the Israelis the way he does, because he has no memory of the Holocaust.

The rest of us would like to move on, but the children of the Left are digging in their heels, trying to forestall the inevitable. Beyond the empty campaign promises, seldom fulfilled, exactly why again should a Black American benefit from voting Democratic?

Uh, Robertson is not any elected Republican’s “pastor”

Nor did he marry any elected Republican.

Nor did he baptize any elected Republican’s kids.

Nor has any elected Republican gone to his church exclusivley for 20 + years.

And, for the record, Robertson has been widely critized on the right (and left) to the point he’s apologized.

Where is crazy uncle Jerry’s apology again?

    Otherwise, great analogy.

I love watching the moral equvocation brigade at work…

Lapides, I don’t care whether people are polite or not, but I do reserve the right to point out when they’re being wrong.

    Like, right now, for instance.

  60. M. Simon says:

just perhaps if you had lived the jewish man’s experience in
America you would not be so “nice boy, stay polite” too! and yes, I am jewish.

  61. Dan Collins says:

And maybe if you’d lived the Irishman’s experience in America, you’d be belligerant. And yes, I’m drunk!

  62. Slartibartfast says:

    And yes, I’m drunk!

    Objection: redundant with “Irish”.

Disciplining your mind, focusing your lust, maturing your soul – all excercises in repressing your inner ape! Then again apes are probably more civilized than the dark rot that is humanity.

My girl looks like Tiger Woods wife. No, I’m not shitting. But that Tiger Woods’ wife has a twin sister, you can’t touch that. Triplets? Then maybe. Tiger Woods is the one who needs a shrink! He’s nailing a replica of his sister-in-law everytime he puts the hammer to it. Quantity versus quality does not a zero-sum game make, not when you’re mounting every one of ’em in the dark recesses of your repressed desires. How does my girl keep me honest? Easy. The one time I hinted at a three-some, she punched me in the stomach. My little bitch is hard; she comes from the ghetto of blond-haired blue-eyed pimps evidentily. Knocked the wind out of me!

  64. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – She should have you animal!

it appears that having a girlfriend who you think resembles Tiger Woods’ wife causes acute constipation. And if further appears that this is common knowledge.

    Well, it’s news to me.

  66. alppuccino says:

…..or I could have written, “is a woods wife anything like a midwife only more rustic?”

Don’t get me wrong Thor. I’d nail your girlfriend in a heartbeat.

  67. alppuccino says:

    …irregularity be damned!

Thor, you give voice to the oppressed.

Carrying the torch for the oppressed, repressed, suppressed, constipated, it’s my calling.

If women just spread themselves before us like squid I’m not sure it’d be any better. You don’t swap squid, that’s sick.

  69. McGehee says:

Yeah, and besides: after sex, squid always want to cuttle.

  70. Rob Crawford says:

I’ve heard reams and reams of the condescending things your side says, and frankly I find it disgusting.

Ah, but they don’t really mean the things they say, while we, clearly, mean the things we don’t say.

    Or something like that.

  71. TmjUtah says:

Yeah, and besides: after sex, squid always want to cuttle.

Unless they just squirt and disappear, of course.

  72. McGehee says:

    And their hands are everywhere!

  73. lee says:

    Yeah, that’s what I’m saying!

Please don’t come to my church.

  74. TmjUtah says:

If I had it to do over, I would have inserted “ink” in the logical spot up there in 73.

I do apologize. My comment was inappropriate.

  75. McGehee says:

So, what? Do they squirt lemon juice?

Or am I choosing the wrong logical spot?

  76. JD says:

TMJ – I do not know what you are apologizing for. I almost had a car wreck I was laughing so hard.

  77. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Squirt and run….Isn’t that just li;e a typical Loligo Pealei….

  78. Lisa says:

Yeah, and besides: after sex, squid always want to cuttle.

    Exquisite.
