Dems 2008: But what about white folks for Clinton? [Karl]

Having just covered Sen. Barack Obama’s white support earlier today, I note that the WaPo’s Jon Cohen has a post up on Sen. Hillary Clinton’s “downscale” white voters:

In each of the states where the Post subscribed to exit polls (and voters were asked about their level of education), Clinton did better among non-college than college-educated white voters. She also outpaced Obama among non-college whites in all 14 of these states, but beat him by more than a single percentage point among college graduates in only five.

Cohen, in turn, links to a post by Mark Blumenthal at Pollster.com about the unsurprising correlation between “downscale” voters and “low-information” voters.

Taken together, it could be hypothesized that Obama could break down part of Clinton’s coalition as the campaign unfolds as low-information voters take in the conventional wisdom that Obama could win the nomination.  If Obama does not build momentum in this fashion, it may be a sign that those downscale white Democrats mean something else when they tell pollsters they are not sure the country is prepared for a black president.  And how that question shakes out would have implications in a potential Obama-McCain match-up.

You know, Hillary does kind of remind me of Larry the Cable Guy’s sister…

I saw somewhere a while ago that up to a BA degree people are more likely to be conservative but Masters and PhD degreed people tend toward liberal and the higher the degree the more to the left.

So Hillary gets the more conservative Democrats and Obama gets the ones farther to the left. Makes sense to me.

I also see they are starting to call Hillary’s voters “stupid” oops that’s “low-information”. Must be Republicans voting for her since that’s who is usually labeled as “stupid” (low-information) by the media.

Well du-uh! Racism is ailing, but not dead. Black voters tend Democrat anyway, but if even 5% percent of the country votes for “The White Guy” it will tip the election. In the privacy of the voting booth, we can say what we really feel. (BTW isn’t it also racist to vote for “The Black Guy”?)
