On television, Sen. Barack Obama blinds people with his aura of hopeyness and his halo of changeyness.
Meanwhile, he’s sending out mailers blaming “the Clintons” for decimating the Democratic party throughout the 1990s.
At TPM, Josh Marshall calls it “what may be Obama’s most direct and aggressive criticism of Bill Clinton’s presidency yet,” though Obama was already headed in this direction when he praised Reagan and dismissed Bill Clinton’s presidency as incremental. The difference, as the Carpetbagger Report notes, is that this attack comes solely from the left-Democrat perspective — there is no Reagan-hatred to confuse the Dems this time. Obama is also suggesting that Republicans will have a dump truck full of dirt to unload on Hillary if she is nominated, though she has argued that she is the more fully vetted candidate. I would guess that Obama or his supporters will use the news that Hillary is loaning herself money to re-inject the questions about the Clintons’ lack of transparency, possible foreign influence and crony capitalism back into the mix.ÂÂ
There will be pushback, if the Clinton-friendly Taylor Marsh is any indicator. As the Democratic race continues to remain close, the candidate truces are likely to get shorter and shorter.
(h/t Memeorandum.)
There once were two cats from Kilkenny
Each thought there was one cat too menny,
So they fought and they fit
And they scratched and they bit
‘Til excepting their nails
And the tips of their tails,
Instead of two cats, there weren’t enny.
::sob::
If we had a candidate, we could set up bleachers and charge admission.

My first reaction is that most of the dirt would already be out by now — then I remember she ran for re-election in 2006, while also soliciting funds for a presidential bid. (Whatever became of that, by the way? And has anyone heard whether John Kerry might have served in Vietnam?)
Still, the Clintons have demonstrated an uncanny skill for defusing any potential scandal by getting it out in the media at a time and in a manner guaranteed for minimum impact. Expect the dirt to be shoveled by her own allies, starting right after she decides she’s clinched the nomination.
It seems like Hillary really has a dearth of effective surrogates, especially with repect to Obama. Seriously it’s not like they couldn’t have anticipated this. But there isn’t anybody they’ve got that can really lay a glove on him and get away with it. Not that I’ve seen anyway. I don’t watch tv though.
That Taylor Marsh thread is a hoot, as is to be expected.
We have the new Lefty Primary Boilerplate Condensed Version:
Don’t forget to call the DNC and register your opinion on these topics!
I’ve called them on
-need to seat FL&MI delegates
-lack of DNC response to media bias against Hillary and media sexism
-Obama’s statements about who his supporters will vote for in the general if he doesn’t get the nomination
-Obama not stating that he will support the Democratic Nominee in the General election
-MichelleObama’s lack of support for the Dem in General Election if Hillary is the nominee
-My concern that Obama is threatening a 3rd party run if he is not the nominee
… etc
And then we have the Unguarded Essence of Progressivism:
I wish ta GAWD who dosen’t even exist that I had a couple of bucks to send to her, but I am flat tapped out. Had I any money I would send it to her first and Ms. Marsh next. Senator Clinton is our,at this point in time, only hope and Ms. Marsh seems to be just about the only outlet for reality concerning anyone named Clinton on the web. So while I can’t I sure hope others DO!
While I can’t I sure hope others do. It ought to be tattooed on her fucking forehead.
‘While I can’t, I sure hope others do.’ It ought to be tattooed on her fucking forehead.
I’m not fan of socialized medicine, but I’d be happy to pay for such a procedure.
In the end, I fear the “electability” myth always decides primaries.
And, perversely, elections.
I was only half kidding on my own blog this morning when I predicted McCain would lose in November because he’s too electable.
Ric: during the Wilderness Campaign, some wag compared Grant’s army and Lee’s to the Kilkenny cats. Grant just shrugged and replied, “Our cat has the longer tail.” That cat would seem to be the Donks this time ’round, I’m afraid.
I thought his reply was, “Ours go to eleven.”
Foreign influence, eh? You mean like the Bush family and Saudi Royalty? Naa! You couldn’t have meant that!
Sheep Nazi, I wasn’t talking about the general — at this point the subject no longer interests me. It will again in a little while, but right now I’m burned out.
Hillary! has a substantially longer tail, as well as sharper claws. The contest is still fun to watch, in a bullfight/cockfight/dogfight sort of way.

ekshually….i speak l33t
from spendin too much time in the gameverse.
Where’s Senator Clinton getting the money to loan? Five million? Did she invest in cattle futures again?
l33t I want to learn just to make old people feel old. That’s passive aggressive I know. I’m ok with that part.
Bob Smith,
Is Bush running again? I missed that one!
Or is he secretly conspiring to impose martial law and remain in power past 2000!?
If the latter, he should let us know and save both parties a lot of angst.
Christopher – I read elsewhere today that the Clintons are now worth in the range of $40,000,000-$60,000,000. Life after the White House has been good to Hill/Bill.
It’s about time people see obama beyond the fairy dust he seems to be sprinkling on people. Come on. All this preaching about hope and change is all too political. Come off with the masks already.
