   no, no, I’m happy to see them go. that’s what you get for not incorporating and makin’ me keep track of every time someone at work makes a purchase so we can issue a 1099.

   CompUSA jumped the shark long ago, like when I learned about computers. But Best Buy (at link) also sucks major eggs. I’ve bought almost 100% of my computer crap online for years. A plug for newegg.com, by the way, with which I have no affiliation except as a customer.

   Tiger Direct rocks my little technological world. Good prices, great service, and I don’t have to leave home to get what I need. God bless the intertubes and the man in the brown truck.

   I hear the liquidation firm that bought the chain is sending off for a $1.5-million mail-in rebate. Good luck with that.

   Meh. But that link contains somewhat of a falsehood; the Blue Öyster Cult album that contained the original “Don’t Fear the Reaper” was this little gem, from 1975. Still one of my favorites. When I sometimes blow the dust off of my speakers (and rattle dishes in the china cabinet), this might be one I reach for.

   The few times I ever went to a CompUSA, the service was so bad, I couldn’t ever get what I needed.

   CrapUSA – good riddance.
   Tiger Direct lost me years ago when they kept pretending I didn’t mail them my rebates.
   New Egg has been flawless for me.

    Damn shame. While TV stores like Best Buy were selling computers, this geek felt more comfortable in the computer store where they sold TV’s.

    My son is the techno-weenie in my family. He custom builds his personal computers (mostly for gaming and video) and absolutely swears by newegg.com. I’ve had both good and bad experiences with Tiger over the years and second the rebate problems.

    I couldn’t care less that CompUSA is gone.
