NBC has announced that current MSNBC and CNBC nightly news anchor Brian Williams will take over the “NBC Nightly News” anchor seat after the 2004 election.

And what do we know about Mr. Williams? Well, if you can believe the Media Research Centers’ Brent Baker, ‘Williams […] is a case study in Bernard Goldberg’s observation that it is the “inability to see liberal views as liberal that is at the heart’ of liberal media bias.”

Baker provides many examples, including these instant “pro-environment” classics:

Matching the environmental lobby’s spin, Williams regularly condemns SUVs. He demanded in January this year: ‘With the U.S. locked in dependence on foreign oil, is it downright unpatriotic to drive an SUV?’ In early March he rued: ‘Gas-guzzling SUVs and light trucks were big winners on Capitol Hill today, but there’s concern tonight the environment could be the big loser.’

Gghak.

Is there anything more painful than listening to some slanted bore who’s trying to “objectify” his bias by phrasing an obvious indictment in the form of a question? “With the U.S. locked in dependence on foreign oil, is it downright unpatriotic to drive an SUV? I mean, don’t get me wrong here, I’m only asking, not passing judgment or anything… I’m simply saying that, with the United States being held hostage by Middle East oil barons, isn’t owning a Chevy Blazer the same thing as, say, urinating on the American flag you’ve just set ablaze, or taking up arms for the Taliban?”

Note to Williams: When you phrase an answer in the form of a question, you’re a contestant on “Jeopardy.” Do it from your NBC anchor chair and you’re just another transparent ideologue reading from a teleprompter.
