“The cleanup of the World Trade Center site is on pace to be finished by June, the New York Times reported, citing officials working on the cleanup.”
The cleanup is progressing faster than city officials and real estate developers expected, and may create pressure to come up with a concrete redevelopment plan, the paper said. Public hearings on the development of the site could begin within six weeks, the paper said.
`The faster things happen, the more positive it is for downtown,’ David Shulman, a real estate analyst for Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., told the Times.
A temporary memorial park for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks is to be built by year’s end, the paper reported. The subway line is scheduled to be operating by November, with the PATH rail line from New Jersey following by the end of 2003.
