The engaging Damian Penny, along with Bruce Ralson, on his fine new blog, “Flit,” each report on U. of Guelph philosophy professor John McMurtry’s claim that American Intelligence was complicit in the 9/11 terror attacks. In his speech to the Toronto chapter of Science for Peace, McMurty called the attacks “a big lie” and compared them to the Reichstag fire. Doc McMurty, a former CFL player, further argued that the NFL is a digital construct, and that Major League Baseball is a myth spread by envious former cricket players.

I’ve commented several times already on the considerable shortcomings of the contemporary academy (oooh, I’m gettin’ a Bernie Goldberg, “insider-reveals-dirt” kind of rush — feels oddly like chicken) so I won’t belabor the point, except to insist that relics like this need to be exposed and consistently ridiculed.
