Adil Farooq at Muslimpundit writes on the passing of the Taliban regime:
When the Taliban made a livelihood out of seeking to punish even honest mistakes of what they regarded as absolute belief, it was a performance in the ultimate degradation of the human spirit. Muslims across the world, from Pakistan to Egypt, need to desperately learn from this important lesson and disassociate themselves from the claws of tyranny, not only in words, but in deeds. Thus when the Taliban tried to tell people to stop trying to be better people, and instead to try to be something other than human, they could not sink any lower into the abyss. Sure, being wrong is something that humans do. Yet to cast a blind eye to the opportunities that existed to overturn such mistakes is indicative of egoistic, self-grandiosity, a wretched hard heartedness, and a completely close minded mentality. And since the Taliban did not care to change their attitude, it was then down to nature, human nature of the most celebrated sort, which had to step in and do it for them. Saddam Hussein better watch out.
Indeed.
