A Soldier’s Story

I missed this story the first time around, so maybe you did, too. At any rate, here’tis (from FOXNews):

A U.S. Army lieutenant whose jaw is wired shut from a bullet wound he received in Afghanistan claims screeners at San Francisco International Airport denied him permission to pass through security with wire clippers used to snap open his jaw in an emergency.

Lt. Greg Miller, a combat medic and member of a special forces patrol, was shot in Kandahar in April. The bullet passed through his jaw, severing nerves and leaving him without feeling in his mouth.

He said his jaw was wired shut at a hospital in Germany, and his doctor issued him a pair of wire clippers to carry at all times in case he became sick and needed to open his jaw to avoid choking.

So now we can add to the list of nuns, Dutch grannies, Congressional Medal of Honor-winning septuagenerians, and diaper-wearing toddlers, a Special Forces combat medic wounded in the war on terror (!) as among those our highly trained (and federalized — Yippeee!) airport security pinheads think might be terrorists? Splendid.

I’ll tell ya, whatever union Norman Mineta’s a part of, I want in. Seriously. This guy could hijack a plane himself and probably still keep his friggin’ job…
