Shame’s on me Hands, Bill…

Imcumbent-Hugging partisanship, reviled: The Cato Institute’s John Samples and Tom G. Palmer and the WSJ’s Daniel Henninger on the Shays-Meehan bill.

Henninger begins his column with this amusing poke at Enron-related opportunism:

Is there any truth to the rumor that one of the federal reforms likely to flow from the Enron scandal is that Congress will make daylight savings time permanent? Seriously, how can you not love a transcendental event like Enron? We may never know precisely what was wrong here, but who cares anymore? ‘Enron,’ along with ‘Kenneth Lay’ and ‘Jeffrey Skilling’ have by now turned into the sort of trans-human mutants that provide plots for the ‘X-Files.’ Enron’s become whatever you want it to be, or need it to be.

Hipster Blogger Oliver Willis® accused the Bushies of tethering all sorts of unrelated policy issues to the war on terror; meanwhile, “Enron” [insert Jaws theme here] has become the Dems’ shibboleth of choice — “proving” the need for everything from campaign finance “reform” and stricter CAFE standards to Dick Cheney’s head on a platter and reconsideration of “Evil Axis” rhetoric.
