All the News That Fits, We'll Print [Dan Collins]

Yesterday, we noted that the remembrance Lt. Michael Murphy’s valor and sacrifice was not deemed newsworthy by the NYT, just as none of the major papers seemed to find fit to emphasize Sanchez’s harsh criticism of the press coverage of the war. Today, Frank Rich takes us to task for not getting more riled about a NYT piece on Justice Department documents regarding interrogation, while implying that the Bush Administration is Hitleresque. Meanwhile, Captain Ed lays out the news that’s not very newsworthy again.

It’s very important that we not be distracted by any positive news.

By the way, there’s some excellent stuff over at the Pub, which is really taking off, IMO, and where I hope soon to be more often.

RELATED: “Who’s Been Riding My Silky Pony?” post disappeared at LA Times. But to be fair, as everyone at Think Progress already knows, the affair allegation and the untraceable Obama-went-to-madrassa emails are clearly a Rovian conspiracy to make it seem as though the Hillary camp are up to this.

Here’s the NY Post editorial on Michael Murphy I think Glenn linked. The New York Times has become an obscenity.

  2. happyfeet says:

Karl’s post in the pub is another concise demonstration of how the media is intent upon undermining the prospects of the better world that others are bravely fighting for.

I am not sure if I am in the minority or not, but I think that article about Edwards was completely out of bounds. These unfounded unsourced accusations drive me nuts, no matter who the target is.

  4. happyfeet says:

There’s the question of the $130,000 or whatever the campaign paid this girl for nothing that was ever used. That’s $130,000 of people’s donations, and that’s a legitimate story.

  5. Dan Collins says:

That money should have been Mandy’s, dammit!

  6. happyfeet says:

I thought she was just along for the ride.

  7. happyfeet says:

RTO has had a much more productive weekend than just about anyone I know I think.

  8. JD says:

For what was she paid $130,000 ? That is an awful lot of people buying John’s mother’s apple pie recipe.

  9. JD says:

    That is over 20,000 pies.

All the news that fits, we print.

    Heh.

That was the motto on the masthead of the paper I used to work for.

  11. happyfeet says:

It was something about how she made films to show the wondrousness of the Pony. Films Pony wants no one to see.

  12. daleyrocks says:

I haven’t seen any pony films in quite a few years.

I can’t log into the pub, and it won’t let me register either. More Fun About Buildings and Food.

It says I’m already registered, but won’t accept my password. I have no recollection of prior registration, nor do I have a confirmation e-mail to indicate one of those pie-induced blackouts.

  15. Dan Collins says:

    That happened to me, Merovign.

There’s a “lost your password” thinger when you log in. Maybe that would help?

    Mmmmmmmmmmm…

Close, but Wilt still holds the record.

    feet,

I’m not ready to give up my secret, but the hard part is reformating the information.

On Sunday October 15th, I caught an online version Frank Rich’s diatribe. Not only does he march out the tired tribe suggesting that George Bush is Hitler, he goes on to suggest we are all NAZI’s. The reason? He buys the supposition brought forth by breathless, “true conservative” Andy Sullivan. Andy discovered some WWII German documents that, when translated, appear to be the same as “enhanced interrogation techniques”. Naturally, Andy got the vapors when reading that. He is on a mission towards dumbing down the concept of torture. Well, guess what? The German word for toilet is toilette and I’m not going to flog myself for taking a shit just like the NAZI’s did in days of your.

This dumbing down of torture is pathetic. Turning up the stereo is not torture, playing with the thermostat is not torture, lying to the combatant about the danger he faces is not torture. Cutting off a hand is torture, throwing a person off a two story building is torture and shattering the ulna is torture. Many of you know who did the latter three actions. As Dennis Miller said, everyone is Hitler but the guy wearing a mustache and fatigues throwing people in the wood chipper. No, he’s not Hitler.

Along with Andy, Frank is now on a mission. He feels that he must use the “power of the press” to check U.S. policy. Oh boy! Another unelected, unaccountable nabob wants to influence influence U.S. policy. Well if you chart the stock performance of the New York Times over the last few years, that power is diminishing thank the Lord and I pray that past performance will guarantee future results. With the advent of the internet and web logs, we can check Frank’s assertions. Frank can’t get away with ignoring a few inconvenient facts like Walter Duranty or Harrison Salisbury. The gray lady’s days are numbered, faster please.

RTO – just in case it helps and it’s not in your toolbox already – here’s the text editor I use and it’s pretty powerful with respect to making reformatting pretty easy – a join lines function that removes line breaks – block selection cability – align text left or right – it supports regular expressions throughout – and you can write macros – it has a spellcheck as well –

There are others as good, maybe better, but I’ve stuck with this one.
