Pushback on the Graeme Frost Story [Dan Collins]

Malkin has the most to lose for having had the temerity to look into it (i.e., “stalk the family,” according to the left). What’s the true financial status of the Frosts? Probably somewhere in between what I reported last night and Faiz at Think Progress reports today.

If I was wrong, I’ll send a personal apology to the family, as well as eat crow here.

77 Replies to “Pushback on the Graeme Frost Story [Dan Collins]”

  1. Darleen says:

Faiz can stuff it. I’ll go with what Steyn sez:

The Democrats chose to outsource their airtime to a Seventh Grader. If a political party is desperate enough to send a boy to do a man’s job, then the boy is fair game. As it is, the Dems do enough cynical and opportunist hiding behind biography and identity, and it’s incredibly tedious. And anytime I send my seven-year-old out to argue policy you’re welcome to clobber him, too. The alternative is a world in which genuine debate is ended and, as happened with Master Frost, politics dwindles down to professional staffers writing scripts to be mouthed by Equity moppets.

  2. Enoch_Root says:

wouldn’t it be easier if you were to eat the family and send a personal apology to the crow?

  3. Dan Collins says:

Enoch–you know I think that eating people is wrong.

  4. Rick says:

The Frosts may be of modest income, but wealthy by dint of their held assets.

Still, the President’s veto is to sustain the program to cover the truly needy, not extend it to the more affluent uninsured-by-choice.

Of course, at this moment, a Presidient radio address & opposition response has been commented upon more than all others in history. ‘cept maybe for the “bombing Russia” open mike thiny twenty years ago.

    Cordially…

  5. happyfeet says:

Graeme Frost is not a name, it’s more like a clothing label. They should have gone with a Timmy or a Bobby or something.

  6. lee says:

Meh, I still don’t see why I have to pay for health insurance for someone else’s kids when they make more money than me.

  7. Enoch_Root says:

Dan – you ethnocentric prick. just cause you think it’s wrong, doesn’t make it… erm… wrong or something. er, just cause you say so or whatever. racist!

  8. Darleen says:

Ya know, Dan, I purposely avoided this story because the rage I feel at the Dems using a kid like was on par when they used a 12 y/o little girl to publicly scold Cheney

    What mean-spirited, crass, COWARDLY asswipes.

But this is also the party that blurred the boundaries between child and adult.

oh my I feel a rant coming on …

  9. Darleen, don’t forget Pelosi and the crumb crunchers opening this session of Congress! yay, it’s for the kids! Have they never watched The Simpsons?

  10. Dan Collins says:

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I can’t apologize if I’m wrong. Because I have (believe it or not!) shame.

  11. M Larson says:

I read some of the comments over at “Think Progress” (Two lies for the price of one!). The majority seem to say nothing more substantive than “Those evil right-wingers! How DARE they pick on a child!” Well, kids, exactly which group put him out there as a human shield?

If you think for a fraction of a second, you’ll realize that a shield is out there to absorb damage in place of something the shield-carrier considers more important. So what does this say about the shild-carriers?

  12. Great Mencken's Ghost says:

Got news for you. Whenever someone brings a kid to our side of the street at the rallies, the lefties will run through four lanes of traffic to ignore the adults and scream incredible bile at the child. Screw ’em.

  13. Darleen says:

I don’t know where you were “wrong”, Dan.

The fact remained that daddy Frost’s claim of not getting insurance because of his employer was obfuscation at its finest, seeing that HE is his own employer and CHOSE not to carry insurance.

That fact alone, regardless of “struggling” is the key point of this whole assinine Dem pity manuver.

  14. Pablo says:

Desperate to defend Bush’s decision to cut off millions of children from health care, the right wing has stooped to launching baseless and uninformed attacks against a 12 year old child and his family.

Am I supposed to believe a piece that runs bullshit like that? Refusal to expand the program = decision to cut millions of children off? Uh, no.

  15. Darleen says:

Dennis Prager on the occassion when the Dems trotted out a pet 12 y/o girl at their conventionLiberals and Democrats are not comfortable with adult-child distinctions. They therefore frequently treat and regard children as adults and frequently treat and regard adults as children.

That is why liberals do not generally want children to call adults “Mr.” or “Mrs.”
Such titles render adults distinct from children.

That is why liberal teachers often dress and talk similarly to their students and ask to be called by their first names. […]

That is why liberals don’t worry about protecting children’s innocence as much as conservatives do. The early sexualization of children is therefore not a problem to liberal educators. In a nutshell, the differing views of childhood innocence are what the battles over sex education in elementary schools, condom distribution in high schools and AIDS education in fourth grade are all about.

It is therefore not surprising that the Democrats invited a 12-year-old girl to address their convention.

First, the politicization of children is no more a problem to most Democrats and liberals than is children’s sexualization.

Second, for many liberals, there is just as much to be learned about politics and society from children as from adults. The notion that wisdom accrues with age is generally alien to liberals. So why not have a 12-year-old share her own wisdom with a convention and nation of adults? […]

Listening to a 12-year-old publicly mock the Republican vice president of the United States brought Democrats almost orgasmic pleasure, especially since no Democrats had the courage to do so in their speeches.

Of course, this girl has accomplished nothing compared to Dick Cheney. She has no wisdom, no humility and no knowledge beyond the leftist platitudes spoon-fed by her parents and schools. She is a mere child, more foolish than most, in that she actually thinks she has earned the right to publicly ridicule the vice president of the United States.

The Democratic Party is as shameless as it is immature.

Shameless in its exploitation of children. And shameless in its hypocrisy.

  16. Darleen says:

oh crap, the blockquote tags failed (damn, I miss ‘preview’)

it’s all a quote from Prager.

  17. Alec Leamas says:

I’m having a hard time believing that two adults have a combined income of 45K. If Mr. Frost is a self-employed proprietor of some kind, he ain’t making it, and needs to put down the joint, shave, and do the 9 to 5 routine like the rest of the people whose chirren have health insurance. Yeah, you’ll be working for the man, but you won’t have to pimp your kid out.

I love how I’m only supposed to look at the facts that they want me to see.

  18. jpe says:

The Frosts may be of modest income, but wealthy by dint of their held assets.

Yeah, why don’t they just sell off a portion of their house each month to pay for insurance? Isn’t that the obvious solution?

  19. No, of course the obvious solution is to get everyone else to pay for their poor planning.

  20. Darleen says:

    jpe

as a small business owner, why did daddy gamble with his family’s well-being and CHOSE to not get insurance?

Where does poor planning on his part constitute a right to a blank check on MY income?

  21. Alec Leamas says:

“Yeah, why don’t they just sell off a portion of their house each month to pay for insurance? Isn’t that the obvious solution?”

Asshole, meet “Home Equity Loan.” “Home Equity Loan,” meet asshole.

Tomorrow, we discuss the benefits of “moving to an affordable house, and liquidity.”

  22. Darleen says:

    and more importantly

why the absolute immorality of cowardly Dems strapping kids to their chests to attempt to intimidate others?

It was digusting and in 1994 and even more so now

  23. Pablo says:

Yeah, why don’t they just sell off a portion of their house each month to pay for insurance? Isn’t that the obvious solution?

No, the obvious solution is the one they chose: have everyone else pay for your insurance so you don’t have to.

Let’s not forget that this is a family that was already covered under SCHIP – the program the Dems want to expand

  24. andy says:

“why the absolute immorality of cowardly Dems strapping kids to their chests to attempt to intimidate others?”

Can you imagine the gall of asking us to think of the children when discussing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program?

  25. Alec Leamas says:

“No, the obvious solution is the one they chose: have everyone else pay for your insurance so you don’t have to.”

But . . . wait . . . if the Democrats raise my taxes to pay for the messiah-like child’s health insurance, wouldn’t that be an obstacle in my way to buying . . . a half million dollar house?

  26. Pablo says:

I can imagine the gall of you not thinking about the children when talking about Iraq, so anything is possible.

  27. Rachel Cohen says:

I think a woodworker without health insurance had better be really, really careful. And maybe look at disability insurance. Maybe the parents have some pre-existing conditions that made insurance astronomical? Because the two kids who were in the accident are pretty much going to be hard to insure now.

  28. Darleen says:

    andy

    sure, let’s discuss the children

but stop using them as a human shield

What Dem greenlighted this disgusting display? I want to slap his/her face.

  29. Pablo says:

Alec, you’ll note that taxes are not on the list of talking points. Stick to The Narrative™, people!

  30. Alec Leamas says:

“Can you imagine the gall of asking us to think of the children when discussing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program?”

All of the children, andy? After all, health insurance is nothing without proper nutrition, so we must have three Federal squares a day. And, of course, Federal housing for all of the chirren.

Why not cut out the middleman and outlaw parents ab initio?

  31. Alec Leamas says:

Oh, wait, they put “Chirren” in the name of the Bill – It must be good!

I move we rename the Patriot Act “The Patriotic Underprivileged Children’s Act,” and the Iraq War, “The Pro-Children Military Deployment Action.”

After all, it is for the Children!

  32. B Moe says:

“Can you imagine the gall of asking us to think of the children when discussing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program?”

So how is encouraging and enabling irresponsible parenting good for the children, andy?

  33. Alec Leamas says:

“Alec, you’ll note that taxes are not on the list of talking points. Stick to The Narrativeâ„¢, people!”

You missed the memo – SCHIP is FREE! FREE I TELL YA!

  34. andy says:

    “sure, let’s discuss the children

but stop using them as a human shield”

    Instead, lets just use numbers.

  35. Alec Leamas says:

    “Instead, lets just use numbers.”

Very well. You are ONE huge douchesack.

  36. B Moe says:

I know! We can pay for it by taxing that $5000 Hillary is going to give all the newborns!

  37. Pablo says:

Why not cut out the middleman and outlaw parents ab initio?

Easy now. You keep talking like that and before you know it, Joe Biden will be introducing the legislation.

  38. Darleen says:

    andy

not one of us disgusted with the child-exploitation by Dems is “attacking” the 12 y/o…we are criticizing his obvious exploitation

Dems put in a call “find us a crippled kid to front the bill…no one will DARE take us on”

Well, as a mom I’m so mad I could SPIT. How dare the Dems and how dare you defend them.

  39. topsecretk9 says:

Right. Both parents are college educated. Daddy, who had 4 children, is choosing to hobby job. He’d like us to pay health insurance for his 4 children so he can continue to earn less income indulging in his like of furniture making.

Incidentally, it appears he’s incorporated so he pays himself rent on his building most likely.

  40. Esteban says:

Obviously this kid’s injury wasn’t enough. Maybe John Edwards can wheel out one of his children to attack the ad?

  41. klrtz1 says:

    Jennifer Bush

Before you get too far into how much you care about the children, andy, please go to Malkins’ blog (the link is in the post) and read about Hillarycare and Jennifer Bush. Maybe it will finally open your eyes about your beloved Democrats. I won’t hold my breath, though.

I find myself, once again, back in hilzoy’s camp as regards this issue. It’s easy to have been completely wrong as regards the financial state of the Frost family, and so it nearly begs a deeper look before one gallivants off on epic blogposts on the subject and teeters on the edge of making an ass of ones’ self.

Advice that she might well have taken, herself, a few days before. One day you’re the windshield, one day you’re the bug.

Yeah, yeah, I know: this ain’t about the Frosts, personally. But it was, actually, for a day or so, which is why I think some modicum of caution is in order in these situations. So we don’t look, collectively, like a bunch of enraged monkeys hurling feces at Rush Limbaugh.

Thank you for your comment, Captain Oblivious.

  46. jpe says:

Asshole, meet “Home Equity Loan.” “Home Equity Loan,” meet asshole.

You’re proposing that they take out a loan, on which they’ll have to make monthly payments + interest, in order to pay monthly payments.

You aren’t Bush’s economic adviser, are you?

  47. N. O'Brain says:

“You’re proposing that they take out a loan, on which they’ll have to make monthly payments + interest, in order to pay monthly payments.

  48. andy says:

‘not one of us disgusted with the child-exploitation by Dems is “attacking” the 12 y/o…we are criticizing his obvious exploitation’

Are you quoting me with “attacking”? not me. I think its silly that we consider one child when discussing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.

“Dems put in a call “find us a crippled kid to front the bill…no one will DARE take us on””

You noticed this bill is pretty bipartisan, right?

  49. Alec Leamas says:

“You’re proposing that they take out a loan, on which they’ll have to make monthly payments + interest, in order to pay monthly payments.

You aren’t Bush’s economic adviser, are you?”

I’m sorry that I was busy studying economics and Law while you were writing your dissertation on vaginal paintings of the pygmy tribes.

Mom says Health Insurance is 1200 per month for the family. Even the moonbats admit the Frosts have at least 450k-500k in equity, based upon the current value of the home less the purchase price or original mortgage amount, and this does not account for the commercial property. A home equity loan in the amount of 100k at 6% for a 30 year term yields payments just under $600 per month, and pays for just under 7 years of the family’s health insurance payments. Problem solved. All within 34 seconds.

Of course, moving to a 250k house, and taking 200k free and clear is out of the question, right?

Also, I would guess that a peek into daddy Frosts’ business records would reveal quite a good deal of “ordinary and necessary” business expenses paid by the corporation on behalf of dad that would offset his low income.

  50. andy says:

“Before you get too far into how much you care about the children, andy, please go to Malkins’ blog (the link is in the post) and read about Hillarycare and Jennifer Bush.”

Hillarycare is bought and paid for by the insurance industry. Of course that will be awful. It’ll be just like Bush’s medicare fiasco. Whats in common? Corporate run policy.

  51. B Moe says:

“Hillarycare is bought and paid for by the insurance industry. Of course that will be awful. It’ll be just like Bush’s medicare fiasco. Whats in common? Corporate run policy.”

I like your thinking, andy. We could stop hiring those corporate medical industry doctors and nurses to provide the care itself, too. Think of how much we could save then!

  52. Mikey NTH says:

“Hillarycare is bought and paid for by the insurance industry. Of course that will be awful. It’ll be just like Bush’s medicare fiasco. Whats in common? Corporate run policy.”

Right. Because we all know that a policy provided by, regulated by, and paid by the same entity is going to be super efficient.

And people thought the military-industrial complex was bad…

  53. klrtz1 says:

Nice to see how much you care about Jennifer Bush, andy. You disgust me.

  54. Darleen says:

You noticed this bill is pretty bipartisan, right?

Ya noticed that he was delivering the Dem’s radio response to the President, right?

Who sent out the call to book a crippled kid?

  55. JD says:

The mendacity of the Left no longer shocks or surprises me. Using a yuppie kid as a human shield was a new tactic, but it is from the same moral authority and emotional playbook that all of their stunts come from.

  56. Jeff G. says:

Graeme sounds like a rich kid’s name to me.

First impressions, is all I’m saying.

  57. Alec Leamas says:

“Graeme sounds like a rich kid’s name to me.

First impressions, is all I’m saying.”

Not rich, so much as “has pretentious parents who spell their kids’ names funny so they can correct the petty bourgeois who spell it the regular way” and who “only shop at Whole Foods for organic, free trade arugula.”

I’m guessing that the Frosts’ list of non-negotiables, that is, things that they won’t do without instead of paying for Graeme’s health insurance, is rather lengthy. Hobby cum job, check. Not doing the bidding of “the man,” check. Big Ol’ house in “upscale” neighborhood, check. Weekly dimebag, check. And so on.

  58. Big Bang (Pumping you up) says:

    – So now we can add yet another Lefturd ploy to the Marxi-Dem playbook.

    – “…And it shall be henceforth be called “Getting Graemed”.

  59. doubled says:

Andy says : “I think its silly that we consider one child when discussing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.”

So do I. It’s just those damn Dem’s and their water carrying media that want to put a single child out there to consider and talk about.

  60. Topsecretk9 says:

Can you imagine the gall of asking us to think of the children when discussing the State Children’s Health Insurance Program?”

I’ve actually witnessed the gall of narcissistic parents and the craven Democrat party pimping out a 12 year old to discuss policy. If you’d like to have policy debate with my 12 year old – A) Good luck. Anything he would be able to say would have come from me, not any knowledge base on his own. Which why the Senate Staffers stuffed words down this boys throat. B) Stay the hell away. I won’t trot out my child in policy suit to discuss anything on the national stage. I won’t put him behind a mike asking Democrats why they don’t care about his future against terrorism. I not going to use and exploit my child to score points in my political game.

  61. Obstreperous Infidel says:

” Democrats why they don’t care about his future against terrorism”, but Topsecretk9, there is NO threat from terrorism. That’s just a Rethuglican scare tactic. There is no reasoning with these whackjobs. Rethugs DO hate children, but there is no threat from jihadists. How do you reason with that? It would be funny, if it wasn’t so fucked up.

  62. BJTexs says:

This one of the more aggregeous examples of The First Progressive Church of the Misery Pimpage but is not at all out of character. Follow any of the campaigners (especially Edwards who has it down to a science) and individual stories of abject misery are the preferred way to promote policy initiatives. It guarantees a sound bite and an “AAAWWW” or a “OUTRAGE” from the short attention span set. It is, however, part and parcel of a dishonest policy making template that has served Democrats well. Just not the country, so much. It follows in lockstep with accusing Republicans of “cutting” Medicare or Education when, in fact, the “cuts” are in the percentage of increases. Taxes, Social Security, housing, now children’s health, a nationwide system is judged on the basis of one family’s misery. That is why, andy, we actually look at the numbers so that policy decisions can be based on a country wide perspective rather than on the whimpering sighs of one person or family.

That is why is is shameful and loathsome, regardless of the ins and outs of their financial condition.

  63. JD says:

If it takes the misery pimps prostituting a 12 year old to make their point, then maybe it was not that good of a point to begin with.

  64. JD says:

The parents should truly be ashamed of themselves for allowing their children to be shamelessly and intentionally pimped in such a manner.

  65. Big Bang (Pumping you up) says:

“The parents should truly be ashamed of themselves for allowing their children to be shamelessly and intentionally pimped in such a manner.

    – Tell me you’re not really expecting that sort of principled perspective from a member of the Perpetually bleeding hearts club.

    – Children are accessories to the Narrative” with the Lefturds. If they can’t nail them in the womb, they make use of them to the tomb. I honestly don’t think they view children in a healthy light. The one possitive thing about the Batshits, is that they’re intent on extinction.

  66. Melkor says:

RE: 12 y/o Dem talk-bot, Max Cleland, Elizabeth Edwards, Jersey girls et. al.

Who decreed that a spokes-human ‘may not be attacked’ because of some bullshit PC armor like race, gender, health, nunchuck skills, or whatever?

    Here’s the tactic:
The facts of the issue at hand don’t matter; how DARE you QUESTION the wounded vet/wheelchair kid/grieving widow/cancer patient/starving illegal!!

Forget the cowardice, this is misdirection raised to a freakish art form. Although incapable of the emotion, the Dems should be deeply ashamed.

DC, good on you for being open to new and better info that could prompt contrition and an apology.

  67. Merovign says:

This is another one of those “definition differences” we have.

For example, to the left, it appears that the word “ethics” means “do anything it takes to win.”

The Geneva convention, wisely, decrees that “human shields” are not protected because to protect them would encourage their use.

While obviously this pandering is does not sink to the level of hostage-taking, the principle holds.

It’s pretty standard, however, for the left to claim exemption from the rules, the debate, from criticism, and in fact pretty much reality itself.

  68. andy says:

“I like your thinking, andy. We could stop hiring those corporate medical industry doctors and nurses to provide the care itself, too. Think of how much we could save then!”

If you think that doctors and nurses are what I was talking about when talking about PhARMA or the insurance industry, then no wonder you misunderstand the health care debate.

Or at least people who know me would laugh at me and make me buy the beer if I didn’t recant.

  72. miriam says:

Can I change the subject a little? Young Graeme was injured in an auto accident? Why didn’t the COMPULSORY auto insurance pay?

A friend of mine was badly injured in an automobile accident. His auto insurer paid all his medical bills. He also sued the other party and won a million dollars.

You can’t NOT have auto insurance in the state of Maryland. It’s not permitted.

  73. happyfeet says:

You definitely should talk to your agent and make sure you understand your coverage, cause you should know that, and it’s different by state. This accident happened when a tree careened into the path of their minivan, btw.

  74. B Moe says:

“TOO” andy. Google it. I don’t have problems understanding the health-care debate, andy. I even understand why idiots like you want other people to make decisions for them. I just don’t understand why you insist on making decisions for me.

  75. Pablo says:

You can’t NOT have auto insurance in the state of Maryland. It’s not permitted.

You can’t NOT have health insurance in Massachusetts. It’s not permitted. They should just move there, and the problem will be solved because they won’t be allowed to have it anymore.

Mitt Romney should be elected King.

  76. Troll King says:

    Better go check the facts.

    Who shall eat crow?

Oh, wait, they don’t agree with my world view. I’ll get *new* facts.

    You people are delusional.
