Chilling [Dan Collins]

In a chilling scenario of how war might come, a senior intelligence officer warned that public denunciation of Iranian meddling in Iraq – arming and training militants – would lead to cross border raids on Iranian training camps and bomb factories.

Because, you know, these denunciations ought to be kept private. Not as though Iran’s been ramping up the rhetoric, is it?

The intelligence source said: “No one outside that tight circle knows what is going to happen.” But he said that within the CIA “many if not most officials believe that diplomacy is failing” and that “top Pentagon brass believes the same”.

He said: “A strike will probably follow a gradual escalation. Over the next few weeks and months the US will build tensions and evidence around Iranian activities in Iraq.”

Previously, accusations that Mr Bush was set on war with Iran have come almost entirely from his critics.

Really? Critics, unlike our unspecified intelligence source? Better grind out all those Debat-supplied stories while the grinding’s good, boyos. The shelf-life is very short.

So, our telling the truth about Iran supporting terrorists in Iraq will lead to them forcing our hand? All we have to do is lie and they will no longer desire to wipe Israel off the map?

  2. The article is really full of nothing. Hard to even tell if its a trial balloon to scare the Iranians or not.

    – Oh yes. We can’t have the Iraqi’s coming together in a common cause, now can we. No, because that would just about seal the deal for the failure of the laim-stream media to drum the US out of Iraq, and we simply can’t have that.

    – Of course the fact that the building of Iraq as an independent and capable, somewhat Democratic country, was the whole idea in the first place. Reading this sort of agitprop from our own media might lead one to believe that the AP has a large foriegn desk, entirely populated by Jihadist sympathizers. (Shhhhh – they do. Reuters does too.)

  4. JSchuler says:

Of course, it is the denunciations that will “lead” to cross border raids, and not, you know, the actual arming and training of terrorists that Iran is engaged in.

‘Fraid that orchestrated sabre-rattling will not obviate the need to do what is reportedly ‘planned’ (one hopes that such plans are not only ongoing, but honed up to a fine degree of sharpness). But sadly the weakness of the will of West has been limpidly manifest during the past 4 years of lack of coordinated resolve on the part of the USA’s so-called allies from Old Europe. That, and the disgraceful treachery of the Democratic Party in a time of war. I just hope that during the next six months there is a trigger that encourage the US to strike and strike hard. If the secular Iranians haven’t got the nuts to challenge their mad mullahs, then they can hardly complain if the West protects itself, Iraq and Israel – the entire Near East in fact, from a Nuclear strike from Iran – albeit by proxy of one of its insane outriders.

Don’t forget the third leg of the evil *triangle, Syria. AEI don’t want no stinkin’ agreement with NK.

*Or is it a pentagon. Oh yeah, Afghanistan and Pakistan are doing nicely, thanks, so leave them out.

  7. MarkD says:

We’re supposed to forget that Iran has been attacking us and our interests for almost 30 years? I missed the memo.

Oh, is that what that was? I thought someone tracked dogshit into the room.

  10. Merovign says:

Well, aside from the local scent of poo, this is the dumbest senior intelligence official leak since… since… last week?

  11. cynn says:

OK, let’s think this next upheaval in the Middle East through. Possible outcomes? Who cares; we have the air power! You all are so unaware as to be comatose.

“OK, let’s think this next upheaval in the Middle East through. Possible outcomes?”

Or you could just sit there and keep drooling on yourself. It is up to you.

  13. happyfeet says:

Focus, cynn – if we don’t do something to stop global warming, the “possible outcomes” from an attack on Iran aren’t going to mean anything. And also our kids are disgustingly fat.

  14. Merovign says:

But Cynn… it’s Monday! I don’t get it, did you have the day off or something?

    I’m a little chilled.

Arachnidjihad is reportedly coming to “The UN” this week.

In his UN appearance before last, his speech included the statement (in Arabic)…”America will cease to exist when our holy hatred wells up within us.”

This is incredible stuff, even given how bad “The UN” has become, to continue to allow this joker this pulpit.

And this joker, too, whose fealty to Iran (hey, we’ve got cool new weapons to shoot at Israel) was even too much for Iranian TV.
