The Mystery of the Encased Rounds

Which, of course, is not really a “mystery” at all. In fact, if stories like this were any less surprising, then we’d have something to be surprised about.

Of note: those most likely to believe these kinds of stories are those in the West who have little experience with firearms, but a whole lot of experience decrying their evils. Which is precisely at whom propaganda pieces like this are aimed — western elites who show an infinite capacity to over-value their own intelligence.

  1. Robert Nozick once wrote a fascinating topic on this very subject: “Why Do Intellectuals Oppose Capitalism.” Must reading.

  2. Techie says:

Am I the only one who thinks they should teach at least SOMETHING about firearms in school? At least, enough that we don’t have to put up with crap like this.

    TW: Ital limitation?

The Ital limitation of the Berreta 92 had become apparent, so the Army is thinking about the S&W M&P 45?

  3. Channelling heet says:

I think it is interesting how uncritically these things are accepted. These bullets are alleged to have been fired, passed through a wall and stuck in her bed, or were embedded in her home, depending on which picture you choose. Yet, the bullet still resembles an unfired bullet, and has not been distorted in any manner, nor marked from firing, not to mention the case. Typical media BS.

  4. Boss429 says:

Don’t you get it? Things are so bad in Iraq that soldiers have had to resort to throwing, by hand, live ammo at the enemy instead of shooting at them.

  5. Sean M. says:

Hey, you wingnuts don’t know how hard some war criminal desensitized by his experiences in a Kuwaiti chow hall threw those rounds! Something like that could’ve put somebody’s eye out!

    TW = mind weakness. Freaky!

  6. PMain says:

Another MSM meme discredited by bloggers. To think I thought it was only records & tapes I’d have to explain to my grandchildren, now the list is going to include newspapers & news services.

  7. ef says:

JD – For some reason I can’t get to his site from work. I’m sure the depth of his analysis will be astonishing though.

  8. Ragin' Dave says:

How bad is it that less than twenty-four hours after a “news” service puts out a “news” report, people have already proven it to be false?

And how about the fact that people now read the “news” with the expectation that we’ll have to verify any “news” report through other means?

  9. ef says:

    Wow – wrong thread.

  10. SarahW says:

Someone, somewhere, has probably dredged up dozens of examples by now, including this one – on the fox news site the other day.

  11. MMShillelagh says:

Why must I live in a world that prompts me every few days to think to myself, “That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”? It would be so much easier to be reality based.

Makes you wonder how bad things can actually be when this is the worst news they can fake. It’s like the guy who lies and says he’s had sex with two women. You know that means he only figured out whackin’ it, like, a week ago.

  12. trax says:

    WOW!

The Sith Lords(R) in our military are so evil they’ve discovered a way to shoot unexpended rounds(not fired) at civilians while they are sleeping in their beds.

Obviously these Sith Lords are hoping the rounds that miss innocent old ladies will be picked up by children at play. Did they also air-drop some pliers and hammers to help Iraqi children rough-house their new toys?

Maybe these are just new US made IEDs?

Sure smells like someone needs to teach the fine art of “waggin the dog” to these pathetic scrubs. Is that not covered in the Koran? Team Clinton could/would give them some quality training in the art if these Iraqi civies can come up with big cash. Preferably some of that big Oil-for-Food cash!

    Scarecrow:
Pardon me. That was is a very nice way.
    Dorothy:
    Who said that?……
    Dorothy:
That’s funny. Wasn’t he pointing the other way?
    Scarecrow:
Of course, people do go both ways!
    Dorothy:
Are you doing that on purpose, or can’t you make up your mind?
    Scarecrow:
That’s the trouble. I can’t make up my mind. I haven’t got a brain, only straw.
    Scarecrow:
    Oh, I’m a failure, because I haven’t got a brain!
    Dorothy:
Well, what would you do with a brain if you had one?
    Scarecrow:
    Do? Why, if I had a brain, I could…

  13. McGehee says:

It’s only a matter of time before a news agency reports, credulously, on the display of a fake missile made of cardboard toilet-paper-roll cores as the weapon that “flattened this beautiful four-bedroom home behind us and killed all of its inhabitants, including the five-year-old girl you see waving from the living room window, clearly traumatized by her violent death only hours before.”

  14. corvan says:

The problem is that the MSM’s employees and sources are so sympathetic to the Taliban and Al Qaeda as to be indistinguishable from them. Some people would call this corruption, most people call it journalism.

  15. Slartibartfast says:

I’m guessing they were launched out of a slingshot, myself.

    present represen

  16. ducktrapper says:

Yeah well one of those in a slingshot could put an eye out, ya know!

  17. Ouroboros says:

This is all a Bushco brown op (of Rovian design) carried out by Blackwater Security to intimidate the innocent civilians of Iraq and Afghanistan into claiming they actually want US help against the terrorists..

They drop these rounds from their helicopters 1000 meters over the target.. They’re just like pennies thrown off the Empire State building, man. They’ll go through anything… but totally silent.. They never hear them coming..

It’s freaking brilliant.. in a Diabolical American killbot kinda way.

    tw: interests abstract… exactly

  18. Ric Locke says:

…an infinite capacity to over-value over-estimate their own intelligence.

    There, fixed that for you.

    Regards,
    Ric

  19. Swen Swenson says:

Remember: The folks who took this photo and posted it are war correspondents. “Experts” in this field of journalism. Makes you wonder if there’s anything the MSM reports that we can trust, doesn’t it?

  20. Patricia says:

This is about as believable as the Palestinian “keys” to their supposed lost homes. In short, if you want to believe, you believe.

  21. Spiny Norman says:

Isn’t that woman “Wailing Fatima” from Lebanon, whose “homes” were destroyed multiple times by those wascally Jooz?

  22. Squid says:

This is akin to a BBC radio report I heard last night that blamed the North Korean flood damage on, you guessed it, American napalm attacks during the 1950-53 Korean War. ‘Cause the trees were never replanted, the Norks being too poor or some such. Incredible.

TW: order shoulder Automatons, march south to Seoul!

  23. MarkD says:

I blame JAG. After Haditha our guys can only shoot back with slingshots. Next time something bad happens, it’ll be with one hand behind their backs.

    /sarcasm

The media isn’t remotely interested in facts or the truth. I’m tired of mocking them. It’s too easy.

  24. Jimmy don't play that says:

Why would war correspondents required to know anything about war? Much as high school teachers are not required to know anything about their subjects: it is sufficient simply to know how to TEACH. Since the 70s rejection of proven methods in favor of intellectual wanking, subject matter is now known to be generically interchangeable and requires no mastery, once one can TEACH. Similarly, journalism. A qualified journalist need know nothing of men, dogs, or mastication, she merely assembles the subject, object and verb into all possible permutations, and selects the most aesthetically pleasing to her trained journalist’s eye. This, dear reader, is the distilled essence of REPORTAGE. *spit*
