The death of Scouting [Darleen Click]

Leftism ruins everything it touches

BSA

The Boy Scouts of America has put out approved activities for its members, and water gun fights are strictly prohibited.

A blog for the organization’s leaders said May 6 that pointing simulated firearms at people is not allowed.

“Why the rule? A Scouter once told me this explanation I liked quite a bit: A Scout is kind. What part of pointing a firearm [simulated or otherwise] at someone is kind?” said Bryan Wendell on the scouting website.

The rule is clarified in the Boy Scouts of America National Shooting Manual, which says “For water balloons, use small, biodegradable balloons, and fill them no larger than a ping pong ball. […] Water guns and rubber band guns must only be used to shoot at targets, and eye protection must be worn.”

GSA

Girl Scouts has valued and supported all girls since our inception in 1912. There is not one type of girl. Every girl’s sense of self, path to it, and how she is supported is unique.

The foundation of diversity that Juliette Gordon Low established runs throughout Girl Scouting to this day. Our mission to build “girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place” extends to all members, and through our program, girls develop the necessary leadership skills to advance diversity and promote tolerance.

If a girl is recognized by her family, school and community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe. Inclusion of transgender girls is handled at a council level on a case by case basis, with the welfare and best interests of all members as a top priority.

As we face a complex and rapidly changing 21st century, our nation needs all girls to reach their full potential, which has been our focus for more than 103 years.

    “eye protection must be worn”

Which is merely a sensible means of preserving those external elements of the brain. What though, about protecting the internal elements of the brain from the terrible damage done by socialism?

Once you eliminate the genetic as the innate basis for anything then all that “nature or nature’s god” stuff just falls away and all humanity becomes a soft clay to be molded and remolded by self-anointed “betters”.

What part of pointing a firearm … at someone is kind?

If it prevents him from committing a murder, it’s kinder than you can possibly imagine — to both him and his would-be victim, to their respective families, to their neighbors and witnesses, to the people who would have had to clean up afterward, to the prospective jurors…

Some people just don’t think things through.

  5. The Girl Scouts were lost a long-time ago.

    >Early Fabian views

The first Fabian Society pamphlets[10] advocating tenets of social justice coincided with the zeitgeist of Liberal reforms during the early 1900s. The Fabian proposals however were considerably more progressive than those that were enacted in the Liberal reform legislation. The Fabians lobbied for the introduction of a minimum wage in 1906, for the creation of a universal health care system in 1911 and for the abolition of hereditary peerages in 1917.[11]

Fabian socialists were in favour of reforming Britain’s imperialist foreign policy as a conduit for internationalist reform, and were in favor of a capitalist welfare state modelled on the Bismarckian German model; they criticised Gladstonian liberalism both for its individualism at home and its internationalism abroad. They favoured a national minimum wage in order to stop British industries compensating for their inefficiency by lowering wages instead of investing in capital equipment; slum clearances and a health service in order for “the breeding of even a moderately Imperial race” which would be more productive and better militarily than the “stunted, anaemic, demoralised denizens…of our great cities”; and a national education system because “it is in the classrooms…that the future battles of the Empire for commercial prosperity are already being lost”.[12]<

    >BETWEEN the aims of the post-totalitarian system and the aims of life there is a yawning abyss: while life, in its essence, moves toward plurality, diversity, independent self-constitution, and self organization, in short, toward the fulfillment of its own freedom, the post-totalitarian system demands conformity, uniformity, and discipline. While life ever strives to create new and improbable structures, the post-totalitarian system contrives to force life into its most probable states. The aims of the system reveal its most essential characteristic to be introversion, a movement toward being ever more completely and unreservedly itself, which means that the radius of its influence is continually widening as well. This system serves people only to the extent necessary to ensure that people will serve it. Anything beyond this, that is to say, anything which leads people to overstep their predetermined roles is regarded by the system as an attack upon itself. And in this respect it is correct: every instance of such transgression is a genuine denial of the system. It can be said, therefore, that the inner aim of the post-totalitarian system is not mere preservation of power in the hands of a ruling clique, as appears to be the case at first sight. Rather, the social phenomenon of self-preservation is subordinated to something higher, to a kind of blind automatism which drives the system. No matter what position individuals hold in the hierarchy of power, they are not considered by the system to be worth anything in themselves, but only as things intended to fuel and serve this automatism. For this reason, an individual’s desire for power is admissible only in so far as its direction coincides with the direction of the automatism of the system.

Ideology, in creating a bridge of excuses between the system and the individual, spans the abyss between the aims of the system and the aims of life. It pretends that the requirements of the system derive from the requirements of life. It is a world of appearances trying to pass for reality.

The post-totalitarian system touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing the legal code; the repression of culture is called its development; the expansion of imperial influence is presented as support for the oppressed; the lack of free expression becomes the highest form of freedom; farcical elections become the highest form of democracy; banning independent thought becomes the most scientific of world views; military occupation becomes fraternal assistance. Because the regime is captive to its own lies, it must falsify everything. It falsifies the past. It falsifies the present, and it falsifies the future. It falsifies statistics. It pretends not to possess an omnipotent and unprincipled police apparatus. It pretends to respect human rights. It pretends to persecute no one. It pretends to fear nothing. It pretends to pretend nothing.

Individuals need not believe all these mystifications, but they must behave as though they did, or they must at least tolerate them in silence, or get along well with those who work with them. For this reason, however, they must live within a lie. They need not accept the lie. It is enough for them to have accepted their life with it and in it. For by this very fact, individuals confirm the system, fulfill the system, make the system, are the system.<

Amazing what some people think selling overpriced boxes of cookies can accomplish

  11. Darleen says:

    Ernst

I was a girl scout back in the day and LOVED it (and cookies were just a blip in the year)

this Leftist crap that has infected the GSA makes me despair.

  12. Ernst Schreiber says:

As for the Boy Scouts, I thought squirt guns were already banned, because last year I learned paint ball and laser tag were on the Index of Prohibited Activities.

There’s several things going on here:

    1) The ongoing and ever present desire to protect youth from hazing/bullying and/or sexual abuse –not least because of the fear of lawsuits.

    2) The desire of the BSA to be seen as a youth organization rather than as a youth (quasi-)paramilitary organization. Uniforms are okay, but uniforms and guns? Never mind that we’re not talking about real guns (except when we are –afterall, nobody pays to go to camp to shoot rubber bands at paper cups).

    3) The percieved need for a consistent safety ethic across the board, lest some fool who just 5 minutes ago was happily squirting his den mates with his supersoaker forget that a bb gun (.22lr. 20ga shotgun) is real gun and must always be pointed downrange and NEVER pointed at another person. Think of it as a variation on the candy for everybody or candy for nobody because LAWYERS fallacy.

    4) Liability costs.

The way I would get around this, were I so inclined, would be to set up some kind of midway shooting gallery for my Cubs to unload their supersoakers at. Then, after 45 minutes or so, I’d end the meeting and tell them, with the permission of their parents, that they should take off their uniforms before they had any kind of squirt gun fight.

Then, assuming we were some place where it was allowed, I’d take off my uniform and go sit with the other dads and drink beer while we watched our kids soak each other.

Anyway, I’m more concerned that the new Chief Scouting Executive is more interested in STEM than an outdoor program; because it’s beneficial to the girls, or some damn thing.

  13. Ernst Schreiber says:

Darleen, I’m glad to hear Girl Scouting was a good experience for you. I refused to let my daughters get involved because it’s so patently a scam to sell cookies.

We hooked up with this outfit instead.

  14. Seems to me, as an outside observer [ie: no children]…

-the people in charge of the Boy Scouts are afraid

-the people in charge of the Girl Scouts are not.

  15. Dave J says:

For what are they now taught to “scout”, offenses, oppression and inequality?

  16. They are to scout for enemies of The Party, don’t ya know.

He saw himself standing there in the dim lamplight, with the smell of bugs and cheap scent in his nostrils, and in his heart a feeling of defeat and resentment which even at that moment was mixed up with the thought of Katharine’s white body, frozen for ever by the hypnotic power of the Party.

Why did it always have to be like this? Why could he not have a woman of his own instead of these filthy scuffles at intervals of years? But a real love affair was an almost unthinkable event.

The women of the Party were all alike. Chastity was as deep ingrained in them as Party loyalty. By careful early conditioning, by games and cold water, by the rubbish that was dinned into them at school and in the Spies and the Youth League, by lectures, parades, songs, slogans, and martial music, the natural feeling had been driven out of them….

Julia was twenty-six years old. She lived in a hostel with thirty other girls (‘Always in the stink of women! How I hate women!’ she said parenthetically), and she worked, as he had guessed, on the novel-writing machines in the Fiction Department.

She enjoyed her work, which consisted chiefly in running and servicing a powerful but tricky electric motor. She was ‘not clever’, but was fond of using her hands and felt at home with machinery. She could describe the whole process of composing a novel, from the general directive issued by the Planning Committee down to the final touching-up by the Rewrite Squad.

But she was not interested in the finished product. She ‘didn’t much care for reading,’ she said. Books were just a commodity that had to be produced, like jam or bootlaces.

She had no memories of anything before the early ‘sixties and the only person she had ever known who talked frequently of the days before the Revolution was a grandfather who had disappeared when she was eight.

At school she had been captain of the hockey team and had won the gymnastics trophy two years running. She had been a troop-leader in the Spies and a branch secretary in the Youth League before joining the Junior Anti-Sex League. She had always borne an excellent character.

She had even (an infallible mark of good reputation) been picked out to work in Pornosec, the sub-section of the Fiction Department which turned out cheap pornography for distribution among the proles….
