“I’m gay. And I want my kid to be gay, too”
I live in the liberal bubble of Park Slope, Brooklyn, where no yuppie would ever admit to wanting their kid to be anything in particular, other than happy. But more often than not, we define happiness as some variation on our own lives, or at least the lives of our expectations. If we went to college, we want our kids to go to college. If we like sports, we want our kids to like sports. If we vote Democrat, of course we want our kids to vote Democrat.
I’m gay. And I want my kid to be gay, too. […]
I want my daughter to know that being gay is equally desirable to being straight. The problem is not the idea that homosexuality could be a choice but the idea that heterosexuality should be compulsory. In my house it’s plainly, evidently not. We’ve bought every picture book featuring gay families, even the not-very-good ones, and we have most of the nontraditional-gender-role books as well — about the princess who likes to fight dragons and the boy who likes to wear dresses.
When my daughter plays house with her stuffed koala bears as the mom and dad, we gently remind her that they could be a dad and dad. Sometimes she changes her narrative. Sometimes she doesn’t. It’s her choice.
Suuuuure, it is.
Kohn goes out of her way to make sure her daughter doesn’t have a father, is surrounded by all manner of “gay family” books and promptings and is still disappointed her daughter is already “boy crazy.”
It is not like data that demonstrate 97% of the population is heterosexual prove the odds of Kohn getting her way without intense indoctrination are pretty slim.
Because, you know, those who have questioned the wisdom of same-sex marriage and deliberately depriving children of an opposite sex parent are the real bigots.
But don’t let the little ones pray in public or recite the pledge of allegiance.
I’m thinking that my definition of child abuse is very different from that of these people.
you and Sally have #firstworldproblems out the ying yang
this weekend i perfected my savory oatmeal recipe it’s very tasty
i don’t really worry about how lesbians raise their children i suspect if the little girl grows up to like penises there’s not a goddamn thing Sally can do about it
and if she don’t she don’t
meanwhile here is how you make tasty oatmeals
into the rice cooker you put these things (you’ll use the brown rice setting)
1 cup steel-cut oatmeals
2 tbspn butter
2-1/2 cups skim milk
1 tbspn garlic powder
a nice splatch of cayenne pepper
a healthy squeeze of sriracha
1/2 pack of weber white wine & herb seasonings
a little less than half a bad of that store brand 3-pepper blend you get in the frozen vegetable section
that’s it cook cook cook
it pairs well with a chicken thigh or some shrimps you saute in butter
i’ve also added a lil chipper-choppered up cabbage before and that turned out nice
oops half a *bag* i mean
What happened to “born that way”?
It’s old and busted.
What happened to “born that way”?
That’s what happyfeet was alluding to. Even lesbian parents know it’s bullshit though. I mean it’s probably true in some cases, but it’s far from a universal truth. I’ve heard the statistic of 3-4% homosexual a lot, but the bi-sexual population is bigger, and ever growing with all the indoctrination I’d wager.
hi you let’s play lesbians this one’s the mama lesbian and this one’s the mama lesbian and this one’s the baby lesbian
no sweetie those are koala bears
well yeah but you have to pretend they’re lesbians
lesbian koala bears?
no you have to make pretend the bears are lesbians like people lesbians
you’re kind of a weird little kid
I’m gay. And I want my kid to be gay, too
Anyone want to bet on what her reaction would be if a heterosexual said ” I want my kid to be heterosexual”?
Greetings:
As much as I hate to drag my own mother into this discussion, the woman did have a rather extensive interpersonal relations playbook, about the size of those NFL ones, and one of the plays that got called a number of times went, “You’re alright, Sonny-jim, the army’s out of step.”
Down at our local schoolyard, though, it was pretty much “an a-hole is not a p-hole”.
“born that way” is for arguments about marriage.
nurturegrooming on the other hand…I mean, now that gay’s okay and expirementing to find one’s identity is all the rage.
CJ is heterosexual and I am happy she is happy, not that SEX is anything she wants to discuss with ME! Hell, finding out about boyfriends has been like pulling teeth….though, it was our fault, we threatened future boyfriends with cute baby pictures….so, well…there’s that.
Lesbians are nuts. Moreso the ones that seem so insulated that the mere fact that a man passes within notice tends to ‘scare’ them. I know a ‘straight’ couple that were adamant about raising their three children in a genderless home – spent YEARS working on it. Son loved trucks and guns (no matter how often he wore his sister’s hand me downs while cooking) and daughters were so into makeup they practically kept AVON in business themselves. Ms. Sally – as all here would point out – is screwing with the kids head. However, in my opinion it has more to do about being a liberal wack-job than with being a lesbian….Liberalism is mind-rotting, brain cell destroying, ideology abuse.
sally kohn is high school gay – go team!

If you say so. I didn’t see any of his usual subtle trigger-warning words like hoochie…
I’m reminded of the deaf folks who didn’t want their kids who were born with normal hearing to learn to communicate with anything but sign language. It’s not about what’s best for the kid. It’s about validating themselves.
anyway the oatmeal turned out very tasty
Ashton; not “born that way”, but advising everyone to give it a try.
Sally will then have to explain why the koala bears went extinct.
I had a conversation with a lesbian friend from law school. I mentioned finding the Dr. Laura show amusing. My school mate complain the Dr L said homosexual make bad parents or something.
I said I don’t really know what the Dr. L thinks exactly but, as I just look at it practically, odds are a homosexual is going to be raising heterosexual children and you are depriving them of the male-female interaction. Surprisingly it actually made her think.
She’ll never let you get away with that again.
Lesbians are nuts.
Unlike women in general… :-P
Because trust is so huge for women when it comes to sexual attraction, and because so many girls are betrayed by men when they’re young, it’s no wonder that some women turn to other women for love, not because they’re born that way but because they’re so badly hurt and absolutely cannot trust men.
OTOH, I’ve heard of lesbians who never found boys interesting and when puberty hit, they dreamed only of women.
And don’t forget the East Germany woman’s Olympic swim team who were fed “vitamins” that were actually steroids. Right then during puberty and sexual maturity and everything. (Commernism is wonderful!) Many of them became lesbians; others wanted sex-changes. Others’ heads were spun around so hard they offed themselves.
Nature, nurture, volition — Many paths (and combinations of paths) leading to the same place.
For some, compassion is the only decent response; for others, a wallop upside the head. Oh look that’s the same for all humanity.
“because so many girls are betrayed by men when they’re young, it’s no wonder that some women turn to other women for love”
Oh brother. That is straight up the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen you post Dicentra. If betrayal by the opposite sex was cause for being gay, there wouldn’t be a straight boy over seventeen tears old in the entire country.
Ha! Shoulda been “years”, but “tears” works too…
96 of ’em.

Di is right to a certain extent … female sexuality is more fluid than male and more affected by circumstance than male.

Uh-huh. Fluid.
I guarantee you, 99.9% of girl on girl action these days is about getting the boys to look, not to escape a boys betrayal. Katie Perry kissed a girl ‘cuz of $ircumstance$ all right, just none that involved a boys betrayal.
I do recall reading long ago that one of the strongest correlaries with male heterosexuality is an interest in watching two girls get it on.
That straight women aren’t similarly interested in watching two guys, merely proves la difference what we are supposed to vive.
Aren’t they too busy writing about it to have time to watch it?
I said straight women.
I don’t know if anyone’s ever surveyed the orientation of shippers
Or whatever the hell they’re called.
Oh, those women — the subculture that seems to have started out with the Kirk/Spock abominations.
Those are arrested-development middle-schoolers who don’t yet understand sex.
You know, the ones who call it gender.
