January fundraiser [update: LAST DAY]

The money-grubber doing his beggar hausfrau bit again. Give, don’t give. I understand either way. But anything that comes my way will help pay the legal bills to keep the (deserved) heat on my thieving brother, along with the remainder of funeral / burial bills for my Mom.

I’ve been waiting until after this week to re-start my efforts with the lawyers; no need to leave phone messages that cost me $30 each to have heard when the people hearing them won’t be around until next week anyway, I figure.

If there’s anything left over after I pay for the privilege to fight the theft of my Mom’s estate — and once I have the funeral home finally paid off — I may treat myself to a bottle of Lagavulin, Distiller’s edition.

Nothing like a bit of fine peat to recharge the old motor.

Incidentally, I do try to stay partially active on Twitter even when I don’t have time to post here. Last week I was able to get some GOP rah-rah drone to openly declare she wants conservatives out of the party so that the GOP can “grow it’s base.” To do this, she said we needed to get rid of House Whip Scalise (whom I don’t care for, his being a faux-conservative and a Boehner lackey) — only the reason she wanted him gone was that the appearance of impropriety, with respect to speaking to a civic group in advance of some meeting of the whiteness brotherhood, would be exploited by the left to make the narrative all about “our” racism.

— Didn’t matter to this moron that the charges may not have been true; didn’t matter that we are dealing with justice for a specific individual — a human being — and not some pawn on the GOP pragmatist’s political chess board.

My advice was to wait to see if Scalise actually did anything wrong before we force him to step down, as was the call from many of this new pack of tone-deaf, losing-more-slowly establican defeatists (in a kind of Ground Hog’s Day of messaging ineptitude and preemptive surrender); for my troubles, I was told I’d been “brainwashed” by the “conservative extremists” who, unlike the mountain-lake pure Roveans, are only interested in fighting the party for the money. Then I was asked to leave the party entirely. As if I was in some way wedded to the GOP and couldn’t go on without it.

It was sad. But the more things change, the more they stay the same. Especially when the alternative message, and some of its more forceful purveyors, are very deliberately blunted, bracketed, diminished, defamed, and excommunicated from the “serious” business of determining “electability” and policing “perception” such that we have learned to self-censor rather than run afoul of the left’s attempts to misrepresent our words and motives.

Because the constant surrendering has clearly led to a downturn in the number of racist charges against us since Obama took over, right. Right?

GOP “realists” are, with few exceptions, nothing more than pom-pom-waving progressives rooting for “our” team over team D. But beside the brand-humping, very little else separates them, save the speed by which they wish to push us past the antiquated Constitution and keep the professional political class intact in order to Get Things Done.

That is, they advocate for a political elite, sneer at representative government, and view the Constitution as a sometimes useful evil. When they aren’t essentially dismissing it as irrelevant by way of deed (cf., the omnibus budget deal; the surrender of Congressional power to both the Executive and the administrative state; the party’s intimated pro-amnesty stance disguised as anti-amnesty).

They want an aristocracy. Me, I want the country that broke free of that kind of tyranny.

— Though in their defense, that did happen, like, over a hundred years ago. So fuck me.

Sigh. So much work to do, so little time.

update: Today will mark the end of January’s fundraiser. Thanks again to those of you who’ve contributed.

Just saw this from Palin and Levin weighing in (wrongly) on the Scalise.

Disappointing. So what if he did walk right into to Dukeapalooza ’92, under the “we sho-nuf hates us some darkies and jews!” banner and gave a talk on tax policy. Do racists not pay taxes? Assuming this took place in his district, are his racist constituents undeserving of representation?

  5. Jeff G. says:

    Thanks (belatedly) Jonah C!

  6. Jeff G. says:

Palin and Levin want him gone because he’s a fake conservative. I want him gone, too. But I won’t let him be scapegoated as a way to do it. Just not who I am.

True enough. While I’ve believed that for awhile, it became absolutely apparent during the most recent local caucuses in my state where the the 2/3 of attendees who wanted someone other than Romney were, by procedural hook and crook, shut out of the process by the Roveians. An insider who thought I was a sympathetic ear gleefully confirmed to me that the fix was in in my county before the doors to the church hall were ever opened.

  8. McGehee says:

Trent Lott’s ouster for saying something nice about Strom Thurmond helped embolden the all-Republicans-are-racists narrative. At the time I just wanted Lott gone and didn’t realize the long-term consequences. Never again.

Rings of opportunism (Boehner’s clique of power clingers) entwine with rings of another opportunism (Levin and Palin’s thrust against Boehner’s clique of power clingers) entwine with yet other rings of opportunism (leftists charging racism where racism isn’t present). So many fancies taking flight at once. But then, there’s a critical vote in the caucus coming. Boehner’s the dog needing flogging just now.

This jade person should maybe read this before her quest to not say anything exploitable by the left leaves her silemt or only saying (and eventually thinking) things the left has pre-apporoved.

Of course, as any feminist in good standing worth her salt will tell you, unenthusiastic endorsement isn’t consent any more than is silence. So jade’s still being exploited.

Funny how that works. Although I doubt Mr. Orwell would laugh.

    >About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.<

    >No other theory is adequate to explain or comprehend the Declaration of Independence. It is the product of the spiritual insight of the people. We live in an age of science and of abounding accumulation of material things. These did not create our Declaration. Our Declaration created them. The things of the spirit come first. Unless we cling to that, all our material prosperity, overwhelming though it may appear, will turn to a barren sceptre in our grasp. If we are to maintain the great heritage which has been bequeathed to us, we must be like-minded as the fathers who created it. We must not sink into a pagan materialism. We must cultivate the reverence which they had for the things that are holy. We must follow the spiritual and moral leadership which they showed. We must keep replenished, that they may glow with a more compelling flame, the altar fires before which they worshiped.<

    >Under a system of popular government there will always be those who will seek for political preferment by clamoring for reform. While there is very little of this which is not sincere, there is a large portion that is not well informed. In my opinion very little of just criticism can attach to the theories and principles of our institutions. There is far more danger of harm than there is hope of good in any radical changes. We do need a better understanding and comprehension of them and a better knowledge of the foundations of government in general. Our forefathers came to certain conclusions and decided upon certain courses of action which have been a great blessing to the world. Before we can understand their conclusions we must go back and review the course which they followed. We must think the thoughts which they thought. Their intellectual life centered around the meeting-house. They were intent upon religious worship. While there were always among them men of deep learning, and later those who had comparatively large possessions, the mind of the people was not so much engrossed in how much they knew, or how much they had, as in how they were going to live. While scantily provided with other literature, there was a wide acquaintance with the Scriptures. Over a period as great as that which measures the existence of our independence they were subject to this discipline not only in their religious life and educational training, but also in their political thought. They were a people who came under the influence of a great spiritual development and acquired a great moral power.<

I refuse to be amused by a 76 year old man being injured but, the whole scenario of broken rubber bands on his exercise equipment and the chain of events must have seemed like a Wily Coyote scene with appropriate “boing” noise. Having fell off a trailer roof 2 years ago in full coyote style, I can only grimace for Harry.

There should be no consequences to racist speaking up, I want to know who they are and what they think so I can judge them by their words and subsequence actions. It goes without saying you should be able to talk with them without consequences.
