“The Centers for Everything But Disease Control” [Darleen Click]

Democrats are desperate to do whatever they can to cover President Angelyne Obama’s profound incompetence, the latest lie that “GOP budget cuts cause Ebola” is laid waste by Michelle Malkin

So now the federal health bureaucrats in charge of controlling diseases and pandemics want more money to do their jobs. Hmph. Maybe if they hadn’t been so busy squandering their massive government subsidies on everything but their core mission, we taxpayers might actually feel a twinge of sympathy.

At $7 billion, the Centers for Disease Control 2014 budget is nearly 200 percent bigger now than it was in 2000. Those evil, stingy Republicans actually approved CDC funding increases in January larger than what President Obama requested.

What are we getting for this ever-increasing amount of money? Answer: A power-hungry busybody brigade of politicized blame-mongers.

Money, money, it’s always the money. Yet, while Ebola and enterovirus D68 wreak havoc on our health system, the CDC has been busying itself with an ever-widening array of non-disease control campaigns […]

After every public health disaster, CDC bureaucrats play the money card while expanding their regulatory and research reach into anti-gun screeds, anti-smoking propaganda, anti-bullying lessons, gender inequity studies and unlimited behavior modification programs that treat individual vices–personal lifestyle choices–as germs to be eradicated.

Here’s a reminder of what the CDC does with money that’s supposed to go to real disease control. In 2000, the agency essentially lied to Congress about how it spent up to $7.5 million earmarked each year since 1993 for research on the deadly hantavirus. “Instead, apparently without asking Congress, the CDC spent much of the money on other programs that the agency thought needed the funds more,” The Washington Post found. The diversions were impossible to trace because of shoddy CDC bookkeeping practices. The CDC also misspent $22.7 million appropriated for chronic fatigue syndrome and was investigated in 2001 for squandering $13 million on hepatitis C research.

As I’ve been saying all along, it’s not their job to do their job, it’s their job to have a job and to add mood lighting to their cubicles.

There’s absolutely no penalty for wasting money on fru-fru, but if you economize with this year’s allocation they give you less money for next year.

Wasting money and demanding more is par for the course. The managers who do it best rise to the top.

More perverse incentives than you can shake a stick at.

    – All of this stems from the fact that there is no accountability, and there is an almost unlimited pot to draw from in the useless pols mind. Either one of these conditions, allowing that the 2nd one is approached by approving ever expanding budgets, is a recipe for disaster in any enterprise. Having both present simply under scores the probability of abject failure. Any private business that tries to operate with these conditions will be out of business in a month.

    – When you add in the Progressive unrelenting urge to avoid any and all responsibility, the whole thing becomes a very bad joke on the American electorate.

    – That is why I was a bit surprised when Bumblefuck didn’t go immediately for an Ebola czar. Then suddenly he changed his mind only a few hours after the WH announced there was no consideration for a czar. My guess is he saw the CDC getting grilled by Congress and said “holy crap…I need someone I can lay all this off on and blame when it all goes wrong”.

    – If Flub-adub needs some guidance all he has to do is look out the front window of the WH. There’s a dude in a Hazmat suit holding a big sign that says “Stop the flights!”.

  4. And in other Ebola News [shameless blogwhoring alert]:

    Ebola, Etc: ‘Listen, Don’t Mention The War!’… – #AmericasGotDisease

Wherein I quote from two reports. One concerning the NYPD Dispatchers being ordered not to use the word ‘Ebola’ and the other concerning a dead airline passenger and how he was handled by the CDC.

  5. McGehee says:

Basil Fawlty greeting the Unicorn Prince: “How nice to welcome you to my establishment, President Ebola. Obola! Obama!”

  6. Ah! I see you are familiar with the “Parricide begging for mercy because he is an orphan” ploy.

  7. Ernst Schreiber says:

The problem isn’t that there’s not enough money. Quite the opposite in fact. The problem is that there’s so much money that the CDC can afford to indulge in first world problems like lesbian obesity.

But even that isn’t the real problem. The real problem is deference to government “experts” who are anything but, as the case of the second nurse to get Ebola demonstrates. She had enough common sense to question whether she should be travelling or not, but then she deferred to some idiot with a chart full of guidelines instead of trusting her gut.

  8. Ernst Schreiber says:

You want to force these yahoos to prioritize, slash their budgets across the board. And if they prioritize nonsense like, say, the EPA trying to regulate drainage ditches on farmland, eliminate them altogether.

Of course, that will make it harder to justify earmarks, so the politicians will never go for it.

    “The Flying Dutchman” named “Magic“.

“News reports out of Belize said the Carnival Cruise ship “Magic” was being kept offshore because of a health worker who had contact with an Ebola patient and that passengers were not being permitted into the country.” They won’t even let the Dallas health care worker transfer to shore so he can be flown back to the U.S.

  10. geoffb says:

Czar Wars? Nah, just a way to spend more and funnel money to Democratic supporters as always.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, you’re all still racist.

    – Meet the designated “fall guy”.

    – The bodies are piling up under the Obama sucker punch bus faster than Liberian Ebola patients.

    Cruise ship industry destroyed? check.

    Airline industry destroyed? In progress.

Domestic travel restrictions? I assure you, top men are working on it. Top. Men.

  14. Ernst Schreiber says:

    Domestic travel restrictions?

Gee, I was so looking forward to getting out and heading on down to my polling precinct in couple of weeks. Oh well. Gotta be safe, right?

  15. BigBangHunter says:

    – Well no matter. The Lefties and their army of web hackers are busily setting up convenient “vote-from-home” sites so you can register you choices from the safety of your own den or kitchen or bathroom.

    – You’ll have the assurance using a password and ID that nothing can go wrong, and be forever confused when every Progressive candidate seems to win every election. nothing to see here, just move along folks, these aren’t the droids you’re looking for.

And, for those of you (identified by your password and ID) so misguided as to not vote for the Progressive candidate, obviously against your own self-interest, extensive “educational” services will be available under the “mental health” provisions of the newly-formed American Health Service…

    A new Czar opportunity, YEA!

  19. sdferr says:

CDC functions effectively as a Center for Panetta Control too, wiping him and his story from the map, if only by the replacement of that story of incompetence and idiocy by another equally incompetent and idiotic.

  20. bgbear says:

Money doesn’t just get laundered through DC, it get transformed into magical dollars that can achieve anything they are sent out into the world to do.

    – Earnest outdid himself today with the latest “Narrative of Lies”™ in the WH pressor when he said that Klien did such a great job during the stimulus program “which was the utmost in transparency and results that speak for themselves”. Klien is a freeking political hack that cut his teeth on the king of lying weasels, slick Willey.

    – Why the hell do they even bother having pressors at all anymore when they could just phone in the lies and save everyone a lot of time and trouble.

  22. […] -Defenders of the CDC have been claiming that a lack of funding is a big part of the problem.  Ernst Schreiber is, rightly, having none of it: […]
