Military Chaplin quotes President Eisenhower — Anti-theists demand his punishment for “hate” and “bigoted, religious supremacy” [Darleen Click]

#WarOnChristians in the US Military

A chaplain at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska was ordered to remove a religious column he had written titled, “No Atheists in Foxholes: Chaplains Gave all in World War II,” because it allegedly offended atheists serving on the Air Force base.

Col. Brian Duffy, the base commander told Fox News the column was removed “out of respect for those who considered its title offensive.” […]

Lt. Col. Kenneth Reyes confirmed to Fox News that he wrote the original essay that appeared in his “Chaplain’s Corner” column on the base website.

Reyes recounted the origin of the phrase “There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole.” Father William Cummings has largely been credited with uttering the phrase in Bataan during World War II.

President Eisenhower referenced the phrase during a speech to the American Legion in 1954, noting “I am delighted that our veterans are sponsoring a movement to increase our awareness of God in our daily lives. In battle, they learned a great truth that there are no atheists in the foxholes.”

Reyes ended his essay with a reflection on faith.

“Everyone expresses some form of faith every day, whether it is religious or secular,” he wrote. “Some express faith by believing when they get up in the morning they will arrive at work in one piece, thankful they have been given another opportunity to enjoy the majesty of the day, or express relief the doctor’s results were negative.”

Reyes did not attack or insult atheists or non-believers in his column.

However, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation accused Reyes of going on an “anti-secular diatribe” and publicly denigrating “those without religion.”

The Air Force agreed and approximately five hours after the MRFF complained, they removed the chaplain’s essay.

“While certainly not intended to offend, the article has been removed from our website,” Col. Duffy wrote in an email to the MRFF. “We remain mindful of the governing instructions on this matter and will work to avoid recurrence.”

But that’s not good enough for the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. They want the chaplain punished for what he wrote.

“Faith based hate, is hate all the same,” Page wrote. “Lt. Col. Reyes must be appropriately reprimanded.”

Ironically, the Air Force left six complaints about the essay on their website.

The Left has marched through civil service, media, entertainment and academia, to the utter detriment of American tradition and culture.

Now they want to push through the military, to the detriment of the mission of the US military.

And we are letting them.

  1. The metastasis of leftist insanity still manages to surprise me. It shouldn’t by now, but it still does from time to time. The bastards have pretty much ruined everything.

I read the chaplain’s column at The Blaze. It was the most benign thing I’ve read in awhile, certainly without any judgmental or evangelistic overtones. I merely provides an historical context for an old adage and notes that all people have faith in something, especially during difficult times. One would expect this sort of thing in a Human Resources newsletter. It’s yet another example of allowing the listener or reader to determine the meaning of language. Unfortunately, he USAF went along, which I’m sure is fine with the Administration. The Obamites hate Christians anyway.

  3. mondamay says:

I thought the CiC is a Christian (that’s hard to type even to make a rhetorical point), at least that’s what we’re always told.

  4. palaeomerus says:

It is the policy of the united States armed forces that we don’t give a fuck if a few trouble making atheist bitches are offended here and there. Your problems are not our problems. This is grown up work. So our advice is to suck it up and deal, or we’ll kick you out, and let you try your hands at the job market and see how your particularly brand of petulant un-zealotry sells in the private sector.

  5. geoffb says:

To get respected by the left you have to show them that you have the right to kill anyone who disses you.

  6. Car in says:

What kind of tool run the “military religious freedom foundation”?

  7. Car in says:

    Ok, now this is funny:

Over 30,000 active duty members of the United States Armed Forces have come to our foundation as spiritual rape victims/tormentees, with hundreds more contacting MRFF each day. 96% of them are Christians themselves.

    Spiritual rape? lol

    I’m dying here.

Following the Fort Hood shooting, Weinstein suggested that proselytizing by “fundamentalist Christians” may have created a hostile environment that contributed to the psychological pressure on Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

    *spit

    Haters.

“No person shall be appointed to a position if the city council finds that such person has, prior to such proposed appointment, engaged in discrimination or demonstrated a bias, by word or deed, against any person, group or organization on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, age, or disability,” the ordinance reads.

According to Pastor Charles Flowers of Faith Outreach International, the amended ordinance includes two new categories to the policy: sexual orientation and gender identity. Judging by the vague language of the draft, the ordinance could effectively ban Christians, many of whom believe homosexuality is a sin, from serving on the city council if they have expressed that belief publicly.

“The ordinance also says that if you have at any point demonstrated a bias — without defining what a bias is or who will determine whether or not one has been exercised — that you cannot get a city contract,” Mr. Flowers told OneNewsNow. “Neither can any of your subcontractors [who have demonstrated a bias] sign on to the contract.”

I suggest a one word response to the Atheists: Nuts!

It’s not enough to demonstrate that you have the right; you must also demonstrate that you have the willingness. It’s not going to be pretty, and it’s not going to end the way they think it will.

I could make an observation about putatively grown men who go by “Mikey” in a non-familial context, but I won’t.

I’m actually surprised they haven’t sued to rename San Antonio, Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, St. Paul…

    Huh. It’s one guy, basically.

Kinda like the “Center for Science in the Public Interest”, which is literally none of those things.

    Or Corpus Christi.

  25. 11B40 says:

    Greetings:

Me, I’m guessing that the Military Religious Freedom Foundation hasn’t yet heard of Islam.

And next to picking a fight with an infantryman’s medic, picking a fight with his chaplain would be it.

  26. palaeomerus says:

“But think of all those who have been spiritually raped!!!”

Shouldn’t that be metaphorical rapes of the sensory impression derived self-image ? Because if you don’t believe in the immaterial or the supernatural then there is no spirit to be raped. Just data stored as neural net connections formed as a reaction to sensory inputs. You want to live in David Hume’s world then you are limited to David Hume’s catalog of things.

Tip for bullies: If possible, fight the tired looking pussy, who doesn’t want trouble. Don’t fight the angry psychopath who is likely to knife the shit out of you and then crap into your open bleeding wounds because he thinks his god told him to and will glorify him eternally in a magical paradise whether he wins or loses.

  28. Ruby Lennox says:

I suppose it’s too difficult for adults who are trusted to do things like fly fighter jets and captain nuclear submarines to ignore words they don’t like.

  29. I’ve found it useful to grab the puny tired looking guy and throw him at the psychopath.

  30. palaeomerus says:

Just don’t make any youtube movies that offend the psychopath.

  31. Ernst Schreiber says:

That Col. Duffy sure seems like a good company man with a bright future ahead of him, eager to please his bosses and move up the corporate ladder and all.

  33. palaeomerus says:

I tried to spiritually rape someone but they have no spirit! Spirits aren’t real. Spirits are invisible imaginary things. We are all just watery systems of organic chemical reactions that sprung randomly from countless centuries of solar perturbations on this rocky mass. Right? What spirit? I thought we were reality based here!

  34. Swen says:

Is it safe to say that anyone claiming “spiritual rape” is fucked in the head?

  35. SGTTed says:

I posted this over there on that Hate Site.

Retired, 26 years of service US Army. I have always been rather agnostic and even atheistic.

I find your attack on currently serving Americans free speech and freedom to worship rights despicable, bigoted and un-American.

I took part in many prayers or sat silently while someone said them. If you cannot handle a prayer, which are merely words, then I would suggest that you are moral cowards unprepared to stand up for your comrades Civil Rights and in violation of your oath of service. If you cannot stand up for ALL the rights in the Constitution, you are probably unfit for service and should be dismissed, or just get out voluntarily, where you can go live where you won’t have to hear dissenting or religious speech.

There is no harm from allowing others to freely worship, even within Military Service. However, you are damaging ALL of our rights by attacking the rights of the religious as somehow not protected by the US Constitution we all swore to uphold and defend. If you cannot handle differing opinions you aren’t getting what it is to be an American. Free Speech isn’t hate. Lose the hate and gain some tolerance.

If the homophobes can handle gays serving, surely you can handle the religious serving. Or are you less of an American than the homophobes?

  36. Well said, SGTTed.

  37. leigh says:

    Bravo, SGTTed.
