When Republicans first unconscionably forced onto America the Obama designed and negotiated sequester — against the vehement protests of its designer and negotiator, who noted that the sequester he designed and negotiated would harm the economy terribly, and that the GOP would be responsible for what he designed and negotiated — the position of the current Administration was that we as Americans need to tighten our belts and start making tough cuts.
And while cutting the government’s own estimated $125 billion in funds lost to waste, fraud, and abuse yearly may have been one way to approach the problem of $44 billion in cuts to the rate of spending; or cutting the government’s own estimated $300-$500 billion in redundant programs may likewise have been an option; the Administration went another way, determining that White House tours should be halted (who thought all those creepy little snot-nosed school kids running around M’chele’s house was a good idea to begin with? I mean, can you imagine?), and that the government would pull funding for close to 150 air traffic control towers.
Sure, these were largely symbolic moves. But they made the point: namely, that Republicans — who hate education, clean air and water, autistic children, the homelesss, the elderly, blacks and Mexicans and Jews,d unslaughtered school children, gays, and now, White House tours and air traffic safety — had irresponsibly decided to cut the rate of government spending by adopting a plan designed and negotiated by Obama, who adamantly distanced himself from the oncoming economic ruin his designed and negotiated plan would, he told us, inevitably bring.
Yet in the midst of all this pain and suffering, several Democrats — and those partial to them — have stood bravely and have steadfastly refused to let the horrific (Obama designed and negotiated) sequester, for which the GOP, having not voted to stop Obama’s designed and negotiated plan to go into effect as designed and implemented, is responsible, prevent them from facing down the draconian cuts, and fighting back with some brave spending — albeit, spending of US tax dollars in foreign economies.
— Which, that’s just nitpicking, really.
For his part, Joe Biden bravely took to Paris and England and dropped over $1 million on hotel fees — including a one-night Paris stay for nearly $600 K. What he was doing there in an official capacity that he couldn’t have done at the British or French embassies in the US, or perhaps over Skype, is anyone’s guess. I mean, one can counsel the Brits to fire illegal shotguns through their doors at marauding bands of hoodlums in a PSA posted to Youtube that could have been shot on an iPhone and posted for nothing. Which leads me to believe that his real goal was to teach Americans how to stand up the GOP’s reprehensible decision to honor an Obama designed and negotiated sequester that the President himself violently and very publicly opposed.
Turns out, all you need do to fight back is have access to $1+ million in US taxpayer funds!
So perhaps taking their cue from the VP, the Obama daughters, on spring break from the drab, sterile environment of Sidwell Friends, spirited off to the Bahamas with friends to enjoy a week of fun in the sun, at a cost thus far unknown to tax payers.
— Making the point that while Republicans may think they can tackle government overspending by irresponsibly agreeing to Obama’s sequester design, a brave and dedicated public servant (or his family members) willing to refuse to buckle to such unreasonable demands, can show us the path forward — can teach us how to fight.
True, it won’t re-open White House tours for filthy, germ-ridden vacationing public school kids; nor will it re-open air traffic control towers; nor can it match the money Obama and Kerry have just given to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Jordanians, and the Palestinian Authority in a show of tremendous fortitude in the face of a GOP-imposed (Obama designed and negotiated) sequester.
But it’s a start. And what it says to the American people is, of course we can spend money we don’t have — and don’t you let the party of child, gay, Mexican, women, the elderly black, autism, clean air and clean water, and unslaughtered school children-hate bully you into thinking we can’t.
Because if we stand together, and you keep voting the New Lefists into office, the message is, those brave politicians who throw off the oppressive, socially-unjust shackles of fiscal restraint will spend that money for you — and you through them can feel the sense of power and victory that comes from defying the patriarchal, dead white male’s so-called illegitimate “laws” of economics.
Forward!

Standing as totemic teenage representatives of a utilitarian simulacra of a vestigial humanity is tough work, indubitably exhausting work — especially so for a man Biden’s age — thus necessitating periodic leaves of absence for refreshing recreation. Whereupon, back to the grinding grindstone bearing the weight of the world on the shoulders of the sleight. Haters.
Joey Plugs only dropped $600k in Paris? Obviously the prostak doesn’t know where the pricey restaurants are. You can take the schmock out of Scranton, but you can’t take the Scranton out of the schmock. Now John Kerry, he could do much better; he knows from opulence.
“Vorwarts!”
Some pigs are more equal than others, right? Emphasis on the “pigs” – because that’s what these people are.
I’ll never be rich because I cannot comprehend spending that much money in a single night.
Right. The really rich run up a €15 million bill and then skip town.

On the other hand, that’s just on an individual level. Biden and his fellow travelers have put $16 trillion on our collective credit cards, so there’s that.
