White House threatens Bob Woodward [Darleen Click] UPDATED and so it starts …

Obviously, the juice-box mafia in the White House have decided history begins with them. What else can explain their belief that a threat against one of the Watergate reporters was going to work?

Bob Woodward said this evening on CNN that a “very senior person” at the White House warned him in an email that he would “regret doing this,” the same day he has continued to slam President Barack Obama over the looming forced cuts known as the sequester.

CNN host Wolf Blitzer said that the network invited a White House official to debate Woodward on-air, but the White House declined.

However, the blatancy does make one wonder, just how many reporters have been threatened into silence?

I mean, who really buys that ABC’s convenient editing of Michelle’s dumbass ‘assault guns’ line was just a matter of timing?

UDPATE Obama capo, David Plouffe, signals the get Woodward strategy to the media wiseguy crew — in essence, Woodward is “too old” to be trusted.

I’m as inclined to believe in Media perfidy as much as anyone, but the usual m.o. would be for the media to insist that the weapon was an automatic firearm regardless.

Alec – that is precisely what Tommy Xtopher did at mediate today.

  6. serr8d says:

Damned shame that the only decent, high-profile, possessor of an actual spine reporter left in this miserable failing Republic is Bob Woodward. And he’s staying true to his principles, despite Barky’s fascisty intimidation. Hat’s off to Bob Woodward.

Dan Rather can’t reach high enough to polish Bob Woodward’s shoes.

  7. cranky-d says:

The media are there to protect the Obamas from looking ignorant. It’s a tough job.

  8. SBP says:

The jackals are in the process of (trying to) destroy Woodward even as we speak.

    I don’t think it’s going to work.

Is it too much to ask that there be debilitating necrotic wounds?

  12. sdferr says:

If only Comrade ObaZma knew, these terrible things would not go on.

  13. geoffb says:

    If only…. yep.

WOODWARD: A very senior person. And just as a matter — I mean, it makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, ‘you’re going to regret doing something that you believe in, and even though we don’t look at it that way, you do look at it that way.’ I think if Barack Obama knew that was part of the communication’s strategy, let’s hope it’s not a strategy, that it’s a tactic that somebody’s employed, and said, ‘Look, we don’t go around trying to say to reporters, if you, in an honest way, present something we don’t like, that, you know, you’re going to regret this.’ It’s Mickey Mouse. (The Situation Room, February 27, 2013)

Poor Uncle Joseph, he’s just never in the loop when these terrible things happen. Always the bridesmaid at his own wedding.

  16. I linked to the original article on Facebook last night, and a lib acquaintance replied that “The issue is that he has stopped being a journalist and has become a pundit, and is spiteful. He’s a shill, not a truth-teller. Alas.”

Remember when dissent was patriotic? Good times. Good times.

  17. newrouter says:

  18. Wow, it sounds as if the White House may have some kind of “list” that has people they don’t like, or “enemies” on it.

The folks who write the hit pieces on Bob Woodward in the coming days will be outing themselves as the administration’s favorite puppets.

    QUESTION AUTHORITY! DISSENT!

A quick scroll through the bylines at the NYT and the Wapo any day of the week will give you that information. Not a single one of them is a journalist. All they do is lick Dear Leader’s face. Hopefully after they’ve licked their nuts.

  22. Matt says:

The crazy thing is that I’ve seen the lib-tards take on this on other boards is “Well Woodward was wrong and the White House was just explaining to him why he was wrong”. They live in a different universe than I do.

And the gist of the explanation was, “Because shut up.”

  25. Pablo says:

Politico had this Tuesday, when they interviewed Woodward, but didn’t run with it until after Woodward appeared and made the claim on CNN last night.

“White House threatens Bob Woodward” is a bit of a scoop, no? Ah, but it reflects poorly on Dear Leader. Let’s sit on that.

These people might want to read up on Herr Doktor Goebbels. It didn’t end well.

  27. McGehee says:

It didn’t work out for Goebbels because he was backing the wrong guy. His Big Lie expertise would have brought him everlasting glory if only he’d waited around for the little god-king instead.

Oh look! A left-leaning journalist, and Watergate hero, shows some backbone and integrity and he’s now Leon Trotsky.

What a hilarious visual that creates. Is anyone else reminded of that YT vid from a few years ago of a Scientology Street Fair in LA with the Angry Midget security detail?

    Enturbulation!

  29. DarthLevin says:

Spiny, I envisage that scene from Stargate where Kurt Russell grabs the laser spear thingy and points it at Jaye Davidson, but all the little kids jump in front to shield their Dear Leader.

  30. Libby says:

That’s gotta suck for all of those journalists. How can these two facts co-exist in their universe?

    – Bob Woodward is the man who demonstrated that a journalist can take down a presidency, inspiring generations of journalists to Speak Truth to Power! and comfort the afflicted while afflicting the comfortable.

    -and-

-Bob Woodward has caught Obama massively lying about sequestration and is the only journalist brave enough to call him out on it, as well as Obama’s mendacious tactics with detained immigrants & an aircraft carrier.

Obama told us in 2008 that he was going to take us to Candy Mountain, but instead he stole our kidneys.

  33. Here’s yet another article claiming that Obama must not know what his staff are doing on his behalf. And who’s fault is that? Who sets the culture? Is this what leading from behind gets you?

It is very strange that intelligent, dedicated people can see the facts plain as day but their attachment to the myth continues to blind them to the reality.

  34. sdferr says:

Here’s yet another article claiming that Obama must not know what his staff are doing on his behalf. And who’s fault is that? Who sets the culture? Is this what leading from behind gets you?

Can we translate “who sets the culture?” into more simply political terms charlesaustin? I.e., in a post-Constitutional (or tyrannic) State, the rules governing the governors having been abandoned, great uncertainties with many necessarily arbitrary actions will arise. So, nothing about these unguided behaviors ought to surprise us, at least insofar as the behaviors are unguided by any generally known rules, measures or standards.

So it needn’t be so much a matter of leading from behind, as leading from within. Such are the ways of the tyrant, and many disorders are the result.

  35. geoffb says:

An oldie from that long ago time of Oct. 2008.

They seem determined to shut people up.

That’s what Obama supporters, alerted by campaign emails, did when conservative Stanley Kurtz appeared on Milt Rosenberg’s WGN radio program in Chicago.
    […]

Obama fans jammed WGN’s phone lines and sent in hundreds of protest emails. The message was clear to anyone who would follow Rosenberg’s example. We will make trouble for you if you let anyone make the case against The One.

Other Obama supporters have threatened critics with criminal prosecution. In September, St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made statements against Obama that were “false.”
    […]

Today’s liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses where administrators, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting to sensitivity training any students who dare to utter thoughts that liberals find offensive. The campuses that used to pride themselves as zones of free expression are now the least free part of our society.

Obama supporters who found the campuses congenial and Obama himself, who has chosen to live all his adult life in university communities, seem to find it entirely natural to suppress speech that they don’t like and seem utterly oblivious to claims that this violates the letter and spirit of the First Amendment. In this campaign, we have seen the coming of the Obama thugocracy, suppressing free speech, and we may see its flourishing in the four or eight years ahead.

  38. sdferr says:

Just reading the Ron Fournier piece, I noticed another profession of the great virtue of Comrade ObaZma, exactly echoing Mr. Woodward’s own:

This can’t be what Obama wants. He must not know how thin-skinned and close-minded his staff can be to criticism. “I have the greatest respect and admiration for what you do,” Obama told reporters a year ago. “I know sometimes you like to give me a hard time, and I certainly like to return the favor, but I never forget that our country depends on you.”

    Uncanny, right?

    heh

  39. McGehee says:

He must not know how thin-skinned and close-minded his staff can be to criticism.

    He’s too thin-skinned and closed-minded to notice.
