BREAKING: Proof that Obama goes “skeet shooting all the time.” [Darleen Click]

Picture released by Jay Carney, it was taken Aug 4, 2012,

POTUS shoots clay targets on the range at Camp David on Aug. 4, 2012

Leave aside for a moment the sweet-sweet mom jeans, what’s up with what appears to be Obama firing at the horizon? IIRC, “skeet” is clay targets launched into the air?

And why is his cheek oozing over the stock?

80 Replies to “BREAKING: Proof that Obama goes “skeet shooting all the time.” [Darleen Click]”

  1. Blake says:

    Could be shooting trap.

  2. sdferr says:

    All the time

Since it’s Groundhog Day, a reflection, offered on “all the time” (and, perhaps, Jay Carney’s true love of Barack Obama).

  3. leigh says:

“White House says ‘Leave the photoshopping to us!'”

That’s a ported over and under. I don’t think so.

  4. Darleen says:

    Blake

Sure, but it’s Barry’s buttbuddy David Plouffle sneering at the skeet birthers

  5. geoffb says:

The official photo apparently depicts Obama – wearing protective glasses and earmuffs — firing the rifle Aug. 4, 2012. It was released Friday on the White House’s Flickr account.

Rifle? Somebody screwed that paragraph. Fox or the WH. Or is that actually an over-under rifle?

  6. royced57 says:

If he is shooting at a clay, he’s Trap Shooting… not Skeet. So, okay… they guy doesn’t know the difference between Trap and Skeet. Fine.

But, where is his shell pouch? If he’s really shooting a round of ANYTHING – Skeet, Trap, Sporting Clays – he would be wearing a pouch that holds his box of shells for the round.

    I cry shenanigans.

  7. iron308 says:

They do port them Leigh, though it doesn’t seem to be too common locally.

The skeet gambit is a throw back to the 80’s gun control movement. Probably farther, but that is when I started to pay attention. It is an attempt to split gun owners, make those who don’t happen to own a scary looking gun feel like it is not their fight, etc. Makes some of the right sort feel it might even be okay for them to support some common sense controls. You know, not my sporting guns, someone elses less accepted in polite company type guns. The sad thing is, it works.

Not all skeet shooters are bad, but if you are looking for anti-gun gun owners, it is a target (semi-)rich environment.

  8. serr8d says:

Mom jeans, sunglasses and what looks like a 410 (20 at most)? This is meant to reassure gun owners that Bharry is ‘one of us’ ?

(I shall pshop that image. Six ways by next Sunday!)

  9. JD says:

Ironic that the next pic in that slideshow is Gabby Giffords

  10. 11B40 says:

    Greetings:

    Okay, here I go.

No pictures of President Obama hitting anything but air…yet ???

I’m glad it was in August 2012, so he had time to get his throwing arm in shape for the opening of baseball season.

At least the range officer didn’t make him wear his bicycle helmet.

And I heard that while he was shooting he was humming, “Come follow me, I’m the Pied Piper…”

  11. leigh says:

I know they do, ironpacker. It’s kind of doofus-y though to port an expensive piece of iron like that. If his objective is to shoot something with less kick, he should go with the Nerf gun he had in the pool pictures. He’s going to end up with a bruised/fractured cheek with that gun pressed to his face like that.

  12. Darleen says:

(I shall pshop that image. Six ways by next Sunday!)

    me, too :-)

  13. beemoe says:

I don’t know why they would have to pshop it, unless he was too scared to even touch a gun.

He sure as fuck don’t look like a regular shooter, though. He looks like a little kid with a bb gun.

  14. leigh says:

Hubs and I were looking at this photo and said the same, BMoe. His posture is all wrong for this picture to have been taken at the moment the gun was fired. He’s standing straight, his muscles (ha!) aren’t flexed, his shoulders are forward. Fake. Fake. Fake.

And, really White House or Fox: earmuffs? earmuffs!? Rifle? Aren’t there any country boys and girls who work there at either establishment?

  15. geoffb says:

He was at Camp David on August 4th 2012.

    By Patrick Hobin

President Barack Obama celebrated his 51st birthday on Saturday with golf, a trip to Camp David and some ribbing from Republicans.

After a round on the golf course in the morning, Obama left for the presidential retreat in Maryland and will return to the White House on Sunday, USA Today reported.

The Winchester Model 101 line is ported. An overhead view of the Camp David range is here at the page bottom.

One thing I can’t seem to find out is when the “Presidential Cup” match between the Marine guards was held.

  16. leigh says:

I should have made a distinction between hunting and trap-shooting. My apologizes. Geoff and ironpacker are correct that trap shooting guns may be ported, although that is not the case with the persons I know who shoot competitively. I was speaking anecdotely from what I have seen and my friends have told me.

  17. mojo says:

Beretta DT10 over/under, looks like the L model, top of the line. Around 10k last I saw. Gotta be a gift, he wouldn’t spend that much of his own cash.

  18. geoffb says:

So he did take Biden’s Beretta.

  19. leigh says:

Biden said he had a Beretta?

  20. geoffb says:

One thing that Breitbart would do is release a story but hold back some or most of what he had in order to leave his opponents a line of attack. One which the additional held back information could destroy. Wait for them to find that trail of tidbits and then after they got fully invested release the rest of the story.

This seems to be what the WH tried in this story. Only trouble is his opponents line was not that he had never fired a shotgun but that he only rarely did it.

Now the best way to have refuted this would be a video of him shooting a few clays. That is not what they released. To prove you have shot a shotgun in a single picture requires that the picture show the smoke coming from the barrel at the exact moment that the shot is fired.

This either needs many shots to get that one perfect picture, a high frame rate camera to take hundreds of pictures of the one gunshot, or a sound activated shutter that activates at the gunshot. Any of these say “staged”, so I expect that the story will be that it was a lucky shot at the perfect time, smoke coming out but recoil not yet moving the gun and shooter.

  21. leigh says:

Thanks, geoff. Slow Joe has good taste.

  22. leigh says:

    Heh. Shared that FB photo.

  23. beemoe says:

    Slow Joe has good taste.

I would be willing to bet pretty good coin it was a gift. I can’t see Biden paying that kind of money for a shotgun. He has a well earned reputation as a tight wad. Well, with his own money I mean.

  24. leigh says:

I wonder if he talked his mom into buying it for him for his birthday or something. Yeah, my money’s on ‘gift’, as well.

Hubs has a Beretta that he purchased many years ago and it was only slightly less than was quoted upthread by mojo.

Too bad about that barn fire. Tragic, it was.

  25. Pablo says:

Beretta DT10 over/under, looks like the L model, top of the line. Around 10k last I saw. Gotta be a gift, he wouldn’t spend that much of his own cash.

I suspect the good people of America bought it. We bought the range, no?

  26. Pablo says:

And why is his cheek oozing over the stock?

And why isn’t the butt planted into his shoulder? Because he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing is why.

  27. Merovign says:

So, he spent all day golfing at an exclusive private club for the rich, and then flew on a jet at taxpayer expense to he could play with a $10,000 shotgun, *JUST LIKE YOU, AVERAGE GUN-OWNER*!

  28. newrouter says:

How about the fact that government agencies are buying up billions of rounds? There have been lots of news reports and lots of rumors, but no clear explanation of why the federal government has invested so massively in ammunition–including the most popular civilian calibers–over the last year. One way or another, it seems that there is a story here. But for it to be pursued, we would need “reporters.” Remember them? Nah, that was a bygone era: you probably don’t.

Mounting a shotgun like that for twenty five rounds will black your eye, even with low brass clays loads.

He may have won, but he is no wing shooter.

  35. bh says:

And why isn’t the butt planted into his shoulder? Because he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing is why.

The picture immediately made me think of this, Pablo.

  36. smmtheory says:

shootin’ left handed… aiming with the right eye… NOOB!

  37. bh says:

In order of manliness: the Queen, Dukakis in a tank, and Obama firing a shotgun.

  38. sdferr says:

Best of all is the hilarity of the White House issuing the anti-American injunction “don’t you dare mock our sensitive little President chil’, you beasts!” They could hardly be less perceptive had they taped a “Kick Me!” sign to their own backs.

  39. bh says:

They’re not too big on any of those amendment things over there, sdferr.

What I don’t get is why they’re so afraid of a photoshop after they themselves supplied a photo of a soft little girl firing daddy’s shotgun for the first time.

  40. sdferr says:

I just saw where Chuck Hinton has died. He was a man’s man, and a right wholesome and decent fellow too. Played a couple of rounds with him back in the early ’90s at Rock Creek: he was driving the ball 300+ even then, when he was in his mid-fifties.

  41. bh says:

Ignorant as I was, I came across some nice details for Mr. Hinton over at his wiki page. Hit .310 in ’62.

  42. geoffb says:

shootin’ left handed… aiming with the right eye… NOOB!

As a right handed, left eyed guy ya gotta go with the eye.

  43. geoffb says:

    Well, well, well.

  44. Ernst Schreiber says:

How about the fact that government agencies are buying up billions of rounds? This is the most sensible thing I’ve read about that:

Unlike most citizens and the majority of local law enforcement agencies, most Federal agencies do not use cheap (full metal jacket) training ammunition. They shoot very expensive (around $1 per round) hollowpoint bullets during all their training sessions. I personally believe that this practice is wasteful, as functionally identical training rounds can be purchased for roughly 1/3 of the price of a premium hollowpoint round. Most agencies shoot the cheaper bullets in training and carry the more expensive bullets for duty use. Not so with the Feds. They practice with the same hollowpoints they carry on duty.
    [….]
The Feds aren’t trying to amass hollowpoints to kill large numbers of American citizens. They just use them in training. The practice is fiscally irresponsible, but it isn’t a conspiracy.

Still, it wouldn’t surprise me if the administration looked upon the shortage government agencies have created as a bonus.

  45. Jeff G. says:

I’ve had people in the know say the same thing, Ernst. The purchases are excessive and wasteful, but fairly typical — though why NOAH needs the amount it got is strange, for eg.

Are we really militarizing our unelected bureaucracies? That in itself seems problematic to me.

  46. Pablo says:

I walked out of Wally World with a few hundred rounds today. Tip: Be there early. Even with the 3 box limit, stuff goes quick.

    Ya think?

  49. leigh says:

“In skeet shooting, you’re either shooting high or you’re shooting low! This is nothing but pandering to the sportsmen and hunters,” Davenport said.

New York Rifle and Pistol Association President Tom King said Obama’s 12-gauge Browning Citori shotgun must have jammed because gun owners will see right through the p.r. offensive.

“We’ve seen this p.r. stunt before. This is what all the gun banners try to do. They try to ingratiate themselves with us,” King said.

“You really think this photo is going to make us think Obama is a pro-gun friend of the Second Amendment?” King said, laughing. “Go figure.”

Okay. In the body of this article, published in the NY Post, the shotgun is refered to as a rifle. Again.

As we established yesterday, that is not a 12 guage Browning Citori but a Beretta DT10 over/under,probably but not certainly, owned by one VP Biden. It is still a shotgun and not a rifle.

That photo is as fake Jenny McCarthy’s boobs.

  50. geoffb says:

Leigh, I’m going to disagree. It could very well be the Browning. The largest image of him shooting I’ve found is here, and a large image of the Browning is here. I’m going to stand by my 1:44 pm way up above. The picture required either, a lot of luck, a lot of shots from the camera and likely the gun, or a lot of special equipment.

Whatever it was staged and held to be released after the blogs started doubting that he shot skeet all the time. It doesn’t disprove the doubts but is spun as doing so since the doubts are also spun to be disproved by the picture.

Rumpelstiltskin has nothing on the combination of the WH publicity people and their media puppets. Straw spun into (low info) gold every time.

  51. leigh says:

Heh. Rumpelstiltskin is them all over. Too funny.

I’m not an expert on long guns or pistols, either so I will defer to your knowledge, geoff. It does look as if it could be a Browning and that really would make more sense than a Beretta in the context of Mr. “I-do-skeet-shooting-all-the-time” and his obvious lack of experience with boomsticks. Especially if it is Biden’s (I know that was a joke upthread, but I’m going with it). I wouldn’t let a fine piece of iron like that into that idiot’s hands.

I’m definately onboard withe that photo being either the world’s luckiest shot (pun intended) or a fake. To be fair, I have seen an older photo, taken by a sports photographer, that shows a baseball connecting with a bat. The image shows the distortion of the ball wrapping around the bat on impact.

Anyway, the WH photo is still a fake.

  61. geoffb says:

That must be it. I probably read some story about it and the connection stuck.

  62. palaeomerus says:

Why did he port his skeet gun? They don’t kick up so much as back. I hope he’s not thinking of adding a deadly barrel shroud to that thing! Or a bayonet lug. Or one of those things on the shoulder that goes up. Or a strap.

Beretta, no way. Browning, as Geoffb suggests. Looks like Lady Di is shooting ground nesting skeets with a ported 525 Sporting or Golden Clays. Better not let Diane Feinstein see his hand wrapped around that pistol grip. Might be one of them assault skeeters.
