Obama insists “we” have to “do something” about gun violence

Only, he doesn’t really mean we we.  Because “we” get it wrong.  And how can he teach us all how to live correctly if he isn’t given the latitude to do exactly the opposite of what most of us want done?

30 Replies to “Obama insists “we” have to “do something” about gun violence”

  1. And by something, perhaps an interpretative dance would be in order.

  2. Libby says:

How about a drum circle and a peace chant, too?

  3. Pablo says:

In answering the question regarding “Banning the sale of assault and semi-automatic guns” how many of the 63% who answered that this would be at least “somewhat effective” have no idea what those terms actually mean?

    I’m gonna put the over/under at 75%.

  4. Slartibartfast says:

Whenever we have to do something, that something winds up being a law passed in haste that winds up having a whole lot of holes in it that occupy the national debate for anywhere between weeks and years.

If this nation were some kind of domestic fowl, it would be too stupid to know that it was dead, running around pumping blood out of the end of its neck.

Which, maybe I have some kind of point, there.

  5. Silver Whistle says:

Nothing of note is ever accomplished without a compassionate head tilt and power fist, people.

  6. William says:

Let’s all roll over and play dead. For Amreika.

Has anyone’s mind been changed by this? All the time spent looking into it this week, even when the data doesn’t support me, is at least backed up by an equal amount of data on the other side, so it doesn’t push for an obvious solution.

Stupid Oprahied nation where we all have to have feels all the time.

  7. leigh says:

Obama can begin the doing of ‘something’ by chastizing his Hollywood friends who trade in sex, gore and mayhem for their lack of sensitivi-tay and thus their contribution to the deaths of school childrens everywhere.

  8. JHoward says:

I can’t help but see Poll Nation still peeing all over its former rights, yammering about “solutions” to, you know, human nature, and thereby adopting the left’s bullshit just as rapidly as the left can churn it out, what with its nice butter-soft consistency.

A new poll released today by Gallup shows that Americans favor increased security and proactive mental health treatment over gun control.

Right. Let’s Minority Report ourselves. Maybe we could revive Teen Screen. In fact, with enough proactive mental health treatment probably crime will disappear entirely.

Killing 26 is a crime, right?

  9. Libby says:

It’s all a set up for more and more restrictive measures because they’re proposing we find a way to “end gun violence.” End it? You’d have better luck trying to “end” hunger, greed, hatred, or free will.

  10. Gulermo says:

Am I only one that finds all the handwringing goulish? Dipping their sleeves into the blood of innocents, as it were.

  11. leigh says:

It’s not just you, Gulermo. They aren’t just dipping thier sleeves, they are dancing in the blood.

  12. Neo says:

The WaPo stumbles on this recent “trend (?)”…

Over that span, the percentage of households with guns dropped from more than half in 1977 to just more than 30 percent in 2010. Gallup, meanwhile, shows a similar drop — though it found 41 percent of households still had guns as of 2010.
But then something happened in 2011. Gun ownership spiked to its highest level since 1994 — 47 percent.
The people who suddenly had more guns ? Not the white males, the Southerners, and the Republicans most associated with guns. Instead they were mostly Democrats, women, and people in every region but the South.

The irony .. oh, the irony of it all.

  13. Gulermo says:

Neo: That people will admit to owning.

  14. Libby says:

Those poor parents will have to suffer through Obama & the MSM constantly flashing pictures of their children and the crime scene for weeks, months, and maybe even years, as a ploy to restrict guns. They might as well throw out their TVs, cancel any newspaper or magazine subscriptions, and be careful on the ‘net. After what they did with Gabby Giffords – including her appearance at the DNC – it’s going to be a long time before they give up on this prop. For the children, as always.

  15. leigh says:

The MSM and the WH are culpable here. Either willfully or ignorantly, but I am betting on the former.

This wall-to-wall coverage of grieveing townsfolk, etal is bound to enable one or more copy-cats and most likely, sooner rather than later.

  16. palaeomerus says:

We have to do something about Obama’s sickening overreach and it’s time to start slapping the GOP a whole lot harder than they are used to slapping us. Because they are falling under the soothing drone of the hypnotists voice.

  17. BigBangHunter says:

This wall-to-wall coverage of grieveing townsfolk….

    – In the words of that reporter Leigh, “Its a living”. You didn’t expect a shred of human compassion from the ghouls of the press did you? The families were finally forced to ask for police proyecyion at the fumerals of their children because the bastard press wouldn’t leave them alone.

    – On related news….

“Press not following narrative”….Media watchers on Twitter — mainly other members of the media and some whose job it is to watch it — quickly seized on the questions as a sign that the Washington press corps was out of step with the national agenda.

    – And we just can’t have that in Utopia.

    – OTOH, somehow I doubt Commywood and the video industry really have anything to worry about. If you think Jug ears and the WH gestoppo are going to do anything to upset a sizable part of their base, the basement dwelling youth, you’re dreaming.

  18. leigh says:

I know, BBH. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.

  19. Ernst Schreiber says:

    you dropped the chose.

  20. Starting yesterday, every door in my youngest son’s elementary school is locked when closed. Every visitor must be buzzed in by the office staff (one poor lady who will now have to wear Depends to work) So. If some psycho breaks a window (no stairs in newer elementary schools for fire and hadicapable code), jumps in and starts smashing little skulls with a baseball bat, he’s got plenty of time.

Well, maybe not my kid’s room, he just passed brown belt, is killer with the short stick, and his sensei spends one day a week on unarmed, close in combat . He’s also got three older brothers. Fuck it, psycho’s gonna need a gun.

On the other hand, when old Mrs. Plushybottom steps out for her coffee and little Johnny’s asthma kicks into overdrive, tough shit. He gonna die.

  21. You should see how fast he can disarm a guy attacking with a banana.

  22. BigBangHunter says:

    – Utopia quickly becoming an armed camp? Who would have thunk it?

  23. Ernst Schreiber says:

It’s all a set up for more and more restrictive measures because they’re proposing we find a way to “end gun violence.”

I believe in ending gun violence on an incident by incident basis. The best way to do that is by being better able to utilize gun violence than the attacker whose gun violence needs immediate arresting.

    Sad but true.

  24. McGehee says:

When the little god-king speaks of imposing his divine-royal will on us mere folk, I am reminded of the time Jamie the Saxt was manipulated into outlawing Clan Gregor because they defended themselves.

The king ordered the clan rooted out, and their posterity extirpated. It became illegal to have the surname or any variation on it.

400-plus years later, Clan Gregor is still here — MacGregor despite them, flourishing forever.

    King James, not so much.

  25. geoffb says:

This wall-to-wall coverage of grieveing townsfolk, etal is bound to enable one or more copy-cats and most likely, sooner rather than later.

Feature Leigh, feature, for those of a certain depraved “will to power” turn of mind.

“These incidents, these horrible, horrible incidents … are happening more and more frequently. And they will continue to happen more and more frequently until someone with the bully pulpit, and that means the president, takes leadership and pushes Congress,” Mr. Nadler said
    […]
Mr. Nadler was asked whether the Newtown tragedy could be the turning point in many Democrats’ longstanding struggle to enact stronger gun laws.

I think we will be there if the president exploits it, and otherwise we’ll go on to the next” incident, Mr. Nadler said.

They want more blood spilled as it enhances their ability to gain more power, more control over all of us. This is who they are, have been, and always will be forever.

  26. leigh says:

    “you dropped the chose.”

That I did. Note to self: never type in foreign languages when in a hurry.

  27. BigBangHunter says:

    – I’ll defend y0ur right to chose Leigh. I just don’t want to pay for your predicate control.

  28. Patrick Chester says:

Am I only one that finds all the handwringing goulish? Dipping their sleeves into the blood of innocents, as it were.

I’ve been calling it that since the 90s or so. Even used the same description you have and the part about dancing in the blood leigh used… hey, you all stole it from me! ;-)

Lately I’ve been wondering if I’m being unfair to ghouls. The usual legendary/monster manual descriptions for them seem to indicate they are unthinking creatures created by necromancy with no free will of their own. They don’t choose to feed off death, unlike the gun control types.

  29. leigh says:

We all swim in the same thought pool, Patrick. There will be gratuitous borrowing now and again. ; )

BBH, my french is tres rusty. I should know better.

  30. Patrick Chester says:

My French is fricking non-existent. Pardon my French. ;-)
