This is who they are. This is what they do.

As the organized left, right down to Obama himself, ramp up pressure to keep Michigan’s Governor Rick Snyder from signing right to work legislation into law, the hired thugs / “labor activists” they deploy to drive home the seriousness of their “suggestions” attack those who stand for fiscal responsibility and real freedom of speech and association — here, the tent of Americans for Prosperity, who have been helping in the effort to turn Michigan into a right to work state.

From an AFP email action alert:

We know this fight is bigger than Michigan. This fight is about giving American workers the freedom to choose what job they want, without having to forcibly give up part of their paychecks to fund a union they might not support.

And the fact that it’s happening in Michigan—the home of the United Auto Workers and the birth place of the modern labor movement—means that it could literally happen in any state across the country.

Like what happened in Wisconsin last year, people on the state level are hungry for change. They want to see more freedom and more open labor markets. They want to remove barriers to job growth, and they want to keep more money in the pockets of the American people.

And, all across the country, we’re winning the hearts and minds of Americans, and they’re seeing, more and more, that states simply function better when economic freedom expands for everyone.

I’ve been arguing that if we’re to beat back federal intrusion it has to begin with states pushing back against the demands of the federal statists.

This is part of that effort — one we can’t afford to lose.

At some point, there will be widespread violence. I’m convinced.

So be it.

  1. Yeah, but the non-union workers in a union shop get to enjoy the bennies that the union fought hard to negotiate for, and they get them for free!

Fine. Let the non-union workers negotiate for their own salaries and conditions, the way the rest of us do.

  2. Useful idiots don’t understand that unionized employment is down under our Padisah President.

    W. Va. coal miners don’t make good gubmint worker bees.

  3. There’s been widespread violence by unions for some time now, Jeff. What I’m waiting for is for it to become a two way street. Then we’ll see how free with their hands teamsters want to be.

  4. At the end [1:00] of the Crowder video a guy wearing a Carhartt coverall grabs Crowder’s collar and pulls him to the ground.

  5. They need to issue brown shirts to these guys, with Obama’s seal on the back.

  6. Just around a week ago Insty was advocating the Egyptian protestors make public examples of Muslim Brotherhood thugs, beating the crap out of them if necessary to get the message across. Where’s the symmetry?

  7. intentionalism

When asked by a reporter about a claim by Michigan state Democrat that “there will be blood” should Republicans pass a union-choice law in Michigan, Carney professed ignorance and then downplayed the comment.

“I haven’t see those comments, and I’m not sure they mean what someone interprets them to mean,” he said.

  8. Well, well, well. Wouldja look at this:

Under the National Labor Relations Act, unions are free to represent all employees – not just union members – at the bargaining table. But they are not required to do so.

  9. union thugs get cranky when their monopoly is challenge.

  10. It would be nice if the Fox guys carried some pepper spray, a taser, and a telescoping ton-fa or two with them.

  11. “union thugs get cranky when their monopoly is challenge.”

Until the court room magic happens or attempts to happen the unions are way past challenged, they are fucked over. Slippery blames Bush.

  12. The unions obviously rejected this advice. A knowledgeable source close to the events in Michigan told Breitbart News that almost immediately after the unions launched their initiative a small group of activists, legislators and businesses began meeting to plot a legislative strategy for the RTW bill.

They, very smartly, secured a key commitment from the Governor. He agreed to support the RTW effort if the union initiative, known as Proposal 2, failed. On election day, the initiative failed spectacularly.

58% of Michiganders voted against the union initiative. The unions had spent tens of millions of their members’ dues promoting the initiative. Yet, the same electorate that strongly backed Barack Obama’s reelection and increased Democrats’ standing at all levels of government overwhelmingly opposed the unions.

I guess they were right to be spooked that the public was moving away from them.

My source told me that the scale of the unions’ defeat made the RTW bill almost unstoppable. As the vote neared, some legislators started getting cold feet about backing the legislation. On the eve of the vote last week, Gov. Snyder publicly reaffirmed his support of the issue and promised to sign the legislation into law. This move stiffened the wavering legislators, culminating in today’s historic vote.

  13. Y’know Austin only has two indoor malls that I know of left (Highland is 80% closed and sold itself to a Community College, Westgate is long gone and was never a full sized mall, and Northcross got torn down to build a Walmart which the neighborhood snobs had a cow about. ) All we are left with is Lakeline which is practically in Leander , and Barton Creek which is near Bee caves. Both are WELL outside of the town center. Dobie Mall is a fake ass mini-mall on the UT Campus. It’s weird. I kind of miss our malls but I doubt I’d shop there if they were still around.

I hear the shooter used an AR-15 style rifle. No word on whether it used special armor piercing incendiary x-ray artillery bullets that travel through time and ought to be outlawed if they were real or not. Great. Now I can hear the words semi-automatic repeated breathlessly as if they were ‘cluster bomb’, ‘MIRV’, or ‘depleted uranium’.

  14. Considering how many AT-15s are out there, you would kind of expect a nut to show up with one eventually.

  15. AT-AT’s should not be available for civilian purchase! You don’t need an At-AT to hunt. Except maybe Krayt Dragons.

  16. In case you didn’t know, Crowder is schooled in both mixed martial arts and wrestling.

“Just to be clear,” TheBlaze said, “what do you mean by ‘one-on-one’?”

“I’m talking about lock us in a racquetball court for a whole sanctioned mixed martial arts bout, or boxing bout, or wrestling bout – whatever he wants,” said Crowder. “He can name the terms and I will face him one-on-one if he wants to avoid prison.”

“I am serious,” he added. “He can go to jail, or compete with me in a sanctioned bout for charity.”

  17. So in Chicago they’ll bulldoze Reagan’s childhood home yet erect a marker at the very site Obama & Michelle first kissed. Blech!

  18. - Every labor movement since the NYC/San Diego Union riots at the turn of the 1900’s have started with the noble purpose of protecting workers rights and ended with the Communist manifesto.

    – Some things never change. Emma Goldman would be proud.

  19. the very site Obama & Michelle first kissed.

    – ….and I was just about to sit down to dinner.

  20. At some point, there will be widespread violence. I’m convinced.

I hope there is. That’s not hyperbole.

It’s clear the Left is now honestly convinced that they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, to anyone who opposes them, including violence. These thugs in MI…is there going to be any kind of a reckoning for the what they did today? Probably not.

Are we expected to wait around and attempt to “take the high road”? Bullshit. Because if things continue to degenerate in this direction then pretty soon there won’t be the chance for a stand up fight.

Personally, I’d rather take a punch than a bitch slap.

  22. I am not really impressed that these guys, together, beat the crap out of a tent.

I mean, I could probably take on a tent all by myself.

  23. What does Barbara Kopple have to say about this? Up is down,eh?

  24. Here is the dude who was saying he’d kill anyone with a gun.

    Also here.

    And, touchingly, here.

  25. Those videos? Totally fake. Because KOCH BROTHERS!!! Also, BREITBART!!!

  26. I hear emptywheel says they are totally fake, too, so: they must be.

  27. Oh. Nevermind

    DEATH THREAT!

All kidding aside? This is exactly how I believe it should be handled. Sign a waiver and take your chances. And that left arm he used to strike? Would be, well, pointedly disabled for quite some time.

  30. These are slipperyslopes buddies.

  31. ot is there some way to measure links in threads?

  32. Maybe I’m lost in space, but this 20-30 something
Crowder appears to be a school-yard pussy. He gets clocked by a 50-something dude and runs away, right? I’m supposed to care about this dick? I must be watching the wrong videos.

    Libertarian Thunderdome!

  40. hey steph

so Crowder was to go all whop-ass in a crowd where he was out-numbered?

AND if he is trained in martial arts, he’s to risk having himself criminally prosecuted or sued to using his training?

Can you repost the link to that video of you taking on a gang of irate union thugs with complete disregard for your own physical wellbeing?

  43. I just spoke with David Fladeboe of Americans for Prosperity, who was working security outside the tent cut down by pro-union protesters outside the Michigan statehouse today. (Fladeboe can be seen in this video previously posted by Jonah — he’s the bearded, burly redhead trying to keep the tent upright.)
    [...]
Fladeboe, who was present in Madison for the Wisconsin union protests, said the Michigan protest was “smaller, but a lot more intense” than the Wisconsin protests. “The anger and the vitriol of these people was shocking,” he said, adding that, in the past two years, he hadn’t seen anything like this in Madison.

They trained for it and then followed their training guidelines. The ones the press was not allowed to view, supposedly.

  44. In case it was missed in all the commotion, Gov. Snyder kept his promise and signed the bills, one covering RTW for public sector unions and one for private sector unions.

  45. “one covering RTW for public sector unions ”

No shit? Wow. I bet Obama’s got his top thug putting on the hobnail boots right now to go lean on wimpy ass judge #41 in the morning.

  46. “He gets clocked by a 50-something dude and runs away, right?”

From what I saw AFTER he got sucker punched he moved in towards the guy, pushed his opponent’s right arm left ward and high to keep him from using it again, got his hands in near the guy’s face where he could trap the arm and keep his head in stinking range if necessary which demonstrates that Crowder does know a bit about fighting, and then told the guy to back off and he’d let go of his head. He showed a LOT of restraint and that he knew what he was doing as far as stopping the guy from winding up for another haymaker/cross hybrid, not getting on film busting a guy up, and not further riling up the idiot’s buddies. He also took the punch standing and reacted to it quickly in a way that tied the puncher up a bit. So I was kind of impressed with the physical side of things. He got into that situation asking them why they were against “right to work” which he was doing mainly as a distraction to get several of the shouting assholes away from the tent that they had just knocked down with people inside who Crowder thought were at least partially composed of old women.

I’m not sure if “face me in the ring for a charity prize or go to jail “made much sense. It’s not really manly to let a guy off the legal hook so you can knuckle him under controlled circumstances. It’s dick waving, it could backfire, and it’s stupid. Violent lawbreakers need to be charged and used to discredit the movement that sent them.

Doing it in a high pitched nervously jokey sing-songy Canadian accented voice while keyed up on TV did not really help the delivery much. But then he was going for the ‘confident and generally non-threatening but surprisingly capable preppie athlete who minored in drama ‘ thing, which he can probably live up to quite well.

That he was being momentarily pushed around by a paunchy, faux ragged, wanna-be sorta hobby biker blue collar who still tries to settle things by the bike rack after PE gets out, provided he has the crowd behind him, despite his receding ‘old fart’s’ hairline also didn’t help.

You really don’t get much in the way of points for attracting and repulsing the wrath of some dopey asshole who never grew up before he wore out. It’s punching down even if the confrontation was forced on him. It’s like beating the drunk, sleepy guy who really doesn’t care about the game, at trivial pursuit. It happened but…meh.

  47. I do kind of wish that Fox News would camp out on that old sissies front porch (since they know who he is now) and make his life HELL for a couple of weeks. Y’know…ask him about his personal records that they just dredged up, ask him why he attacked Crowder and does he have the nuts to face him for real without a mob behind him? Would he have tried that shit if he knew Crowder would shove his arm off grab his head, back him up and then offer to let him go if he stayed back? Ask him what’s killing his front yard grass, did somebody dump something there? Do his kids know that he’s a fucking moron? Etc.

  48. “Yeah, but the non-union workers in a union shop get to enjoy the bennies that the union fought hard to negotiate for, and they get them for free!”

When the union fucks up and gets everybody fired like at Hostess, it would be nice if the union could be held financially liable by those who didn’t join up but still had shit heads over-negotiating ‘on their behalf for free’.

  49. See dicentra here.

  50. Did you guys see the video of Chrissy Matthews with the AFP guy? He wouldn’t let him get a word in, just wanted to know who was paying his salary.

  51. I was working, but a liberal woman who works with me was so upset because her sister was in Lansing and was pepper sprayed FOR NOTHING. Nothing. It was a “peaceful protest”.

I bet it was that fascist Virg Bernero’s thugs in action.

  52. make his life HELL for a couple of weeks. Y’know…ask him about his personal records that they just dredged up, ask him why he attacked Crowder and does he have the nuts to face him for real without a mob behind him?

Ask him who’s paying his salary … etc.

  53. They trained for it and then followed their training guidelines.

Yes, with Professor of Anarchy Lisa Fithian.

  54. I don’t see any upside in this for this Tony Cummings dude. I mean, the guy has already been indicted for embezzlement, and now he’s going to…what? Accept a challenge to fight with gloves and headgear, without having several dozen of his buddies around him to back him up?

No, I don’t see this happening.

I don’t see that Crowder really had an option, there. If he could have beaten the guy quickly (and for me, a couple of quick elbows to the head would have been my choice, given that the guy was doing nothing but haymakers), he would have gotten his ass kicked by the rest of the crowd. Not even if he was well-versed in some kind of scrambling technique like Krav Maga, would he have a chance against a crowd that big. The odds are just too stacked.

  55. That’s been corrected. It’s not Tony Cummings. It’s Tony Camargo, IBEW Local 876.

  56. Hey! All the strikers are standing around with tape over their mouths.

I can get behind that idea.

  57. Carin, I have to tell you , my hat’s off to you for being able to wait tables with those dumb clucks.

Until I taught high school a few years back, I had forgotten how fantastically stupid kids (except my own, of course) are.

My favorite was “It’s, like, morally wrong to make us go to summer school! Stupid Basic Math is too hard!
