“EXCLUSIVE: CIA operators were denied request for help during Benghazi attack, sources say”

The problem with thinking you can control reality through a constant manipulation of perception, misdirection, and omission bias is that reality sometimes fights back, and you wind up tripping over your own dick.

Not that I know this first hand.  But I’ve heard things.

So.  To that end, whoops!  And, finally,  splat!

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. Consulate and subsequent attack several hours later was denied by officials in the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators twice to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were part of a small team who were at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. Consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When they heard the shots fired, they radioed to inform their higher-ups to tell them what they were hearing and requested permission to go to the consulate and help out. They were told to “stand down,” according to sources familiar with the exchange. An hour later, they called again to headquarters and were again told to “stand down.”

Woods, Doherty and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the Consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged. The quick reaction force from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the Consulate and Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack. They could not find the ambassador and returned to the CIA annex at about midnight.

At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied. There were no communications problems at the annex, according those present at the compound. The team was in constant radio contact with their headquarters. In fact, at least one member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours — enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

[…]

According to sources on the ground during the attack, the special operator on the roof of the CIA annex had visual contact and a laser pointing at the Libyan mortar team that was targeting the CIA annex. The operators were calling in coordinates of where the Libyan forces were firing from.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told reporters at the Pentagon on Thursday that there was not a clear enough picture of what was occurring on the ground in Benghazi to send help.

“There’s a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking going on here,” Panetta said Thursday. “But the basic principle here … is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on.”

Fox News has learned that there were two military surveillance drones redirected to Benghazi shortly after the attack on the Consulate began. They were already in the vicinity. The second surveillance craft was sent to relieve the first drone, perhaps due to fuel issues. Both were capable of sending real time visuals back to U.S. officials in Washington, D.C. Any U.S. official or agency with the proper clearance, including the White House Situation Room, State Department, CIA, Pentagon and others, could call up that video in real time on their computers.

Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, were part of a Global Response Staff or GRS that provides security to CIA case officers and provides countersurveillance and surveillance protection. They were killed by a mortar shell at 4 a.m. Libyan time, nearly seven hours after the attack on the Consulate began — a window that represented more than enough time for the U.S. military to send back-up from nearby bases in Europe, according to sources familiar with Special Operations. Four mortars were fired at the annex. The first one struck outside the annex. Three more hit the annex.

A motorcade of dozens of Libyan vehicles, some mounted with 50 caliber machine guns, belonging to the February 17th Brigades, a Libyan militia which is friendly to the U.S., finally showed up at the CIA annex at approximately 3 a.m. An American Quick Reaction Force sent from Tripoli had arrived at the Benghazi airport at 2 a.m. (four hours after the initial attack on the Consulate) and was delayed for 45 minutes at the airport because they could not at first get transportation, allegedly due to confusion among Libyan militias who were supposed to escort them to the annex, according to Benghazi sources.

The American special operators, Woods, Doherty and at least two others were part of the Global Response Staff, a CIA element, based at the CIA annex and were protecting CIA operators who were part of a mission to track and repurchase arms in Benghazi that had proliferated in the wake of Muammar Qaddafi’s fall. Part of their mission was to find the more than 20,000 missing MANPADS, or shoulder-held missiles capable of bringing down a commercial aircraft. According to a source on the ground at the time of the attack, the team inside the CIA annex had captured three Libyan attackers and was forced to hand them over to the Libyans. U.S. officials do not know what happened to those three attackers and whether they were released by the Libyan forces.

Fox News has also learned that Stevens was in Benghazi that day to be present at the opening of an English-language school being started by the Libyan farmer who helped save an American pilot who had been shot down by pro-Qaddafi forces during the initial war to overthrow the regime. That farmer saved the life of the American pilot and the Ambassador wanted to be present to launch the Libyan rescuer’s new school.

Not only was there a clear picture on the ground — add Panetta to the list of lying scumbags — but inaction, whether intentional or out of confusion and a lack of leadership, from the highest ranking players at the White House, the Pentagon, and State Department, are responsible directly for the life of several Americans.

This is now nearly indisputable, should this report prove correct.

Now comes the rest of the media’s attempt — what, you listen to Faux News? — to problematize time lines, pick small holes in the story, and attempt to defer its influence until at least November 7.

It’s who they are.  It’s what they do.

So we see the evacuees from Benghazi, some 35 people, finally have tired of listening to the offical “bullshit” from the most expert bullshitters even a 6 year old would recognize, now begin to tell their story. Where is brother DCIA Dave P.? Has he decided to encourage these tale tellings? Or are the eyewitnesses simply so fed up they’re willing to risk their necks once again by opposing the reelection of the Prancer-in-Chief?

Fuck you, Leon. You knew exactly what was going on — Americans were being assaulted and murdered, on the anniversary of 9/11, in retaliation for your boss’ victory dance on bin Laden’s watery grave. You had real-time intel on what was happening, and you let our people die!

Fuck you, Leon. Fuck your boss, fuck your enablers, and fuck the idiots who let you and your co-conspirators take over our White House. And fuck the media gatekeepers who try to keep this thing swept under the rug.

Suspect that lower level CIA operators listened to Panetta lie like the lying liar he is, yesterday and said “Fuck him”

The crux of Panetta’s quaterbacking statement was no live intelligence. This report says there were drones on site and multiple calls from team on the ground.

Panetta, Hillary and Petraeus should resign and should be charged.

Will be interesting to see who throws whom under the bus now – apparently Bubba has been after Cankles to release the docs that exonerate her.

What gets me the most (it all pisses me off) is that there’s a SEAL on the roof with a laser designator lighting up the bad guys with the mortar. He’s up there waiting to hear the sound of an AC130 or an Apache or just hoping hoping to see a big flash of light where the bad guys used to be. In the meantime, Obama is deciding which tie to wear when he flies off to Vegas.

Another thing that pisses me off is that Obama as thinking that after they were dead, the media would cover for him. He was sure he could let American citizens be killed just to keep the illusion of his conquest of Al Qaeda alive. And he’s been 100 percent correct in his assessment. Only Fox and Drudge were even carrying the story last I checked. Chris Rea was right, the media’s not just a bunch of money-grubbing, narcissistic fools. They’re evil.

It was accurate then, and accurate now.

  27. DarthLevin says:

Problem is, McGehee, now the Dems are the “let Americans die and arrest other Americans so that we can blame America first” party.

More accurate, but admittedly less mellifluous.

The attack lasted, what? Nine hours? This crew needs at least twelve just to plan the emergency crisis all-hands-on-deck meeting. How long do you think it’s going to take that meeting to arrive at a concensus about what to do?

What’s the life of Ambassador Stevens worth anyways, compared to all the careers that were on the line if somebody gave a go order and the rescue went sideways?

  29. NH_Dad says:

When I first read this article (linked below) 11 days ago speculating how Obama may have planned the Benghazi attack my reaction was, “Meh”. However, in the light of the information that has leaked out over the past 10 days and again with today’s revelation it seems all the more plausible that this was an event meant to ensure the Presidents re-election. Notice I say “plausible”. I don’t want to believe it however, there’s only so much circumstantial evidence you can take before you come to the conclusion that we have a very evil man/administration hell bent on destroying this Country at any and all costs. Read it for yourself. Remember, this was written 11 days ago. http://www.westernjournalism.com/october-surprise-gone-horribly-wrong/

From Qaddafi’s stockpile or from our trafficking them in and them getting into the wrong hands?

just to keep the illusion of his conquest of Al Qaeda alive.

If that were the goal—merely to maintain a positive narrative—it seems to me they could have told a smaller lie that would have worked just as well or better: that the attackers were Qaddafi supporters who didn’t like Americans gathering in all the armaments. The CIA were on a righteous mission to recover dangerous weapons and keep them out of the hands of radicals, so naturally the radicals object. (“Al Qaeda? No these are just restive locals!”)

It looks like Stevens was hung out to dry, that he knew something or did something that Obama wanted kept secret. Either that, or Obama is a sociopath who doesn’t give a rip about American lives and couldn’t be bothered to give the order to step in.

Wish it weren’t true, but either one is plausible.

Imagine how things would have been different if somebody, anybody had greenlit the AC-130 H Specter to open up on the Libyan terrorist ground forces w- you don’t even need troops on the ground (though you should bloody well have them, Obama you complete pussy) when you have Bofors cannon and a howitzer that you can aim at already painted targets. God, and watching Panetta calling the “speculation” on these choices to not do shit, as Monday morning quarterbacking, makes me want to punch him in his lying mouth. Its simple- Obama didn’t do shit to protect an American ambassador and he could have. Bottom line. It infuriates me when I see stuff like this – if we’re not going to protect our ambassadors in hostile countries, then we shouldn’t send them. $@$%!

  46. Ernst Schreiber says:

If the AC-130s were still in-country, and if tasking them was even considered (both big ifs at this point), the bureaucratic mentality of the permanent campaign would have been to worry first about collateral damage to Libyan civilians in the vicinity of the Consulate, and second about making the crisis bigger by having one brought down by one of those MANPADS we’re trying to get back.

    – I’m not buying the Vegas story actually. That was apparently floated to make it seem like the Jug ears and his staff, everyone in the WH gang, were not involved.

    – We now know that was also a total fucking lie. In addition to the latest leaks, a spec-ops caller on Rush today said it was all bullshit. There is a constant realtime comm link to any and all consulates, and a designated com-link dude right nest to the pres, and was, while the entire thing went down.

    – The fuckers sat there and let them die while they watched. The two Seals actually disobeted orders and tried to save Stevens. Apparently three times they asked to go and help, and all three times they were ordered to stand down, but they did it anyway.

    – We don’t know for suree yet, just some rumors so far, but I’d bet that Hillary was pitching a bitch for help and Nerobama was the one, or Jarrett or Penetta that turnrf her down, maybe even Axelrod, or all of them together.

    – It all happened BEFORE the Vegsa trip, or at least some of it. Maybe the bastard actually walked out while they were being murdered.

    – I just keep wondering how much longer Bill is going to let this go on before he has had enough.

Oh, and an Insty reader nails it:

UPDATE (From Glenn): Reader John Koisch writes: “It’s not Blackhawk Down. It’s worse. Recall that the major problem in BD was the UN commander was unwilling to risk casualties to protect forward US positions and troops in the city. This is the US unwilling to protect its own. It’s like we have the UN for an administration or something.”
