“It was nothing more than a fact checking error by me …” [Darleen Click]

“… an agency assistant at the time,” Goderich wrote in an emailed statement to Yahoo News.

Yesterday, Breitbart broke an exclusive about a 1991 brochure from Obama’s literary agent where his bio listed

Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. The son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, he attended Columbia University and worked as a financial journalist and editor for Business International Corporation. He served as project coordinator in Harlem for the New York Public Interest Research Group, and was Executive Director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago’s South Side. His commitment to social and racial issues will be evident in his first book, Journeys in Black and White.

As Breitbart was very adamant in leading the story, this is not about “birther” conspiracy twaddle, but

It is evidence–not of the President’s foreign origin, but that Barack Obama’s public persona has perhaps been presented differently at different times.

It would appear that Obama followed the same course of action in tweaking his bio to garner creds in the same manner as that noted Woman of Color, Elizabeth Warren.

Interestingly, Breitbart was rebuffed by the agency when they sought comment on the brochure

Dystel did not respond to numerous requests for comment, via email and telephone. Her assistant told Breitbart News that Dystel “does not answer questions about Obama.”

Yet, one day later, Yahoo News gets an email that is, essentially, Nothing to see. Move on.

Miriam Goderich edited the text of the bio; she is now a partner at the Dystel & Goderich agency, which lists Obama as one of its current clients.

“This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me–an agency assistant at the time,” Goderich wrote in an emailed statement to Yahoo News. “There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more.”

Just what prompted, or more precisely, who prompted the agency to respond when it wouldn’t before? And to Yahoo, not to Breitbart which had sought comment earlier?

I guess the ginned up (or gin-fueled) outrage about an ad attack campaign that was never made wasn’t enough to distract from this story about chimera Obama, so someone had to get to the agency and make sure an explanation was touted.

  1. I wonder if he talked with a fake accent in the dorm freshman year. Oh I bet he did. Heh. “Want some beef jerky?”

as joe wilson would say: you lie.

the thing is that a pompous preening piece of shit like obama is going to read his own bio carefully it’s not like he’s gonna let some random whore like Miriam who works for him say whatever the fuck she wants

The Main Stream Media™ does not answer questions about Obama

    Next question.

    Damnit, Whoppi.

Move your hand away from the President’s crotch. We’re on TV.

    Secret Service!

Since his mother was an American citizen at the time of his birth, Obama is an American citizen. That is how we’ve treated situations like this every other time, as far as I know. Case closed.

I am quite interested, however, in the back story of his life, which seems to shift with the winds. So many counter-factuals have emerged over the years that one must conclude that none of it is true without some solid evidence to back it up.

    It’s not Obama’s fault.

Hell…he could’a been born on the Moon.

He don’t know what Bill Ayers wrote in those books that are s’possed to tell him who he is and where he came from.

Let’s take this as true. Where does that lead? Where would the idea that he was Kenya born have come from to the person who wrote the bio?

Perhaps, like Ms. Warren, he juiced up his credentials to get into Columbia and/or Harvard.

  8. geoffb says:

Cranky-d, there is an aspect to this which does make these matters matter.

A liberal manipulating identity for personal or political advantage? Say it isn’t so geoff!

  10. geoffb says:

A blast from the past on liberal credentials and their own “reality.”

  11. cranky-d says:

I see your point geoffb, but I don’t think it would get enough traction to cause any real damage on its own. Still, in combination with other things he’s done, it might be enough to nudge some independents to vote against him.

Also, I believe one must officially renounce ones US citizenship to lose US citizenship. I could be wrong, of course.

Do any of y’all have a sense what physical form Barry’s school records would take today? I.e., are there multiple forms, paper and digital, say, or microfiche and digital, or whatever combination of these or others? Or would they have reduced to one form? Would they even necessarily exist, as opposed to having been “lost”, that is to say, destroyed so as to be unrecoverable?

I think it doesn’t even matter anymore what the facts and falacies of Buh-rock’s life story may be. He’s been proven to be a shape-shifter and anything he says or does in the way of correction or clarification is going to be greeted with a hearty “whatever, dude”.

His grades could show up along with his LSATs and law license and sleuths would be all over them like white on rice. Short of zombie Mom or Granny showing up to vouch for him, nothing is going ot make people believe anything he says now.

  16. Dave J says:

So let me get this straight…if someone applying to be published does not provide a bio pursuant to your requirements, you simply make their bio up yourselves? How did they come up with the Hawaiian and Indonesian details?

    the 17 year typo

  18. leigh says:

Mark Levin said tonight on the radio that Obama isn’t releasing his school papers, Levin thinks, because of the classes that he took (affirmative action stuff) not necessarily his grades.

He also had some choice words for Joe Biden who is now referring to himself as “Lunch Bucket Joe”. As if.
