Father Damien Karras: “I think it might be helpful if I gave you some background on the different personalities Regan has manifested. So far, I’d say there seem to be three. She’s convinced –”
Father Merrin: “– There is only one.”
You’re welcome, Professor.
Always amazed when I read her posts professing surprise or indignation that democrats other lefty fellow travelers act the way they they have always acted.
She voted for Kerry too, you’re probably wasting electrons on her.
Instalanche.
It burnzzzz, it burnzzzzz!
Folks,
KarrasAlthouse is the sort of voter the Romney camp intends to win over. You see, winning her vote equals Electability. Romney will pander to this sort of constituent. Conservatives are merely lawn jockeys, who cannot go elsewhere.Somebody should ask Ann what the moderate and pragmatic position on unsustainable, debt financed Federal spending is. What’s the moderate and pragmaic position on regulatory overreach?
It’s a mystery why Glenn Reynolds thinks highly of her.
I see nothing of the sort, JHoward.
“Forget it, Jake — it’s Madtown.”
My bland snark, Jeff; pursuant what George Orwell then said.
Does Althouse ever ask herself how she developed a portrait of a moderate Barack Obama in 2008? Was she unaware of his history in Chicago politics? Was she unaware of spending 20 years with Jeremiah Wright? Was she unaware of his radical positions regarding so-called negative liberties in the constitution? Was she unaware of his involvement with the left-wing Annenberg challenge?
Or was she merely drunk with romantic fervor at the thought of what Joe Biden called a clean articulate black man as a president?
I can’t quite riddle this.
” President Obama, may I give you some campaign advice?
I’m independent, moderate, and pragmatic, and I voted for you in 2008 because I thought I saw those qualities in you. I still see those qualities in you, but the you that has those qualities is one of two Obamas, and the other Obama — Radical Lefty Obama — is a person I will not vote for. ”
The Obama phage easily penetrates the immuno-defenses of the Althouse cell wall and subverts its nucelus. Soon the Althouse nucleus is reproducing virus material for the phage to its detriment.
Yay for Schizoid constructions of the human psyche! My inner 1700’s Scottish protestant minster wants to force your inner child to work in that guy’s inner coal mine for psychic pennies so he won’t stand around in the inner dole line all day long.
We aren’t who we are and what we do but strange councils of personas all exerting the components of a net force that acts on the gestalt whole. This is silly. We are not legion.
Shut up she explained.
And it’s a wrap.
I can’t quite riddle this.
Dear oh dear. Ann, sweetie, it’s not that hard. You want to see a fantasy Barack Obama that never existed, that you dreamed up in your own mind back in 2008. You want to vote for this fantasy Barack Obama. You are beginning to realize your fantasy does not exist. So like a teenage girl suffering from unrequited love, you demand Obama reconstruct your fantasy. That’s not “campaign advice,” that’s pathology.
“[I]ndependent moderate and pragmatic” means “I really don’t give a shit as long as it’s not my life you’re fucking with.”
Shut up she explained.
And it’s a wrap.
Oh brother. Althouse and Peggy Noonan can get together and split a half gallon of Chunky Monkey to assuage their grief.
” Oh, for crying out loud. If you insist on making up other things that you feel like I would have said if I hadn’t written what I actually did write and responding to that instead… I’m not going to read your comment.
This is a very predictable comments thread, made boring by the failure to read what it says and doesn’t say.
What’s my motivation to keep reading these comments? ”
See, she even ANTICIPATES the frustrateddisgusted response of her readers. She KNOWS on some level how dumb and sick it is try and project a ‘better self’ onto someone else who will only take advantage of it.
She doesn’t want advice much less tough advice. This is girl talk. It’s about feelings. If we weren’t such ignorant, ADD/ Aspergers/ perpetually adolescent little penis-monsters then we’d try to understand and empathize with her.
Instead we just point at her and judge her, and call her a big cherry sucker with the wrapper still on.
It almost makes her want to vote for Obama again I bet!
“What’s my motivation to keep reading these comments?”, she asked.
The same as to keep voting for Democrats, I would reckon.
“What’s my motivation to keep reading these comments?”, she asked.

Winner winner chicken dinner!
Who are you going to believe Ann?
All this lying evidence Obama scattered everywhere about who he really was, or your own psychic intuition that has never misled you so far (except for when it totally did) that lets you gaze directly into the unsullied objective truth of his real soul ?
Yes. That sums it up well. I linked it. You may not be Mitt Romney fans, but the media’s attempt to tie Ann Romney into child prostitution are quite…amazing. They make the contortionists at Cirque du Soleil seem like arthritic geriatrics.
Funny you say that. My first idea for a title to this post was to play on the origins of (political) consciousness in the breakdown of the bicameral mind.
But it got kinda cumbersome so I scrapped it.
As a Practical Matter (because we accomplish nothing with feckless idealism as everyone knows), Althouse represents the very sort of constituency that will guarantee a President Romney will swing as far left as possible short of being put in check by the House. In fact we will be lucky to get one decent SCOTUS nominee out of the guy with pressure from the indispensable Center demanding fewer Scalias and Alitos. Don’t even think about another Thomas.
Not only has another “rube” self-identified, but she’s offering advice on how He can help her put the blinkers back on.
How’s that for vanity?
You have to remember Ann also admits she has always voted Democrat (except once for Bush in 2004). A mind like her’s is a play toy for the devil.
Didn’t mean to flatter Obama’s vanity there.
That scene works on so many levels, not the least of which was his failure as a ‘psych’ expert to adequately assess his own denial of the reality of the situation coupled with his simultaneous failure as a priest as marked by his further retreat into the alternate reality of a ‘secular’ belief system.
All done in order to avoid the truth that evil is real and present in the world.
I try, ThomasD!
Ann suffers the same psychic pain that so many of her peers share: to admit that she fell for a con is to admit that she’s neither as bright nor as perceptive as she thinks she is. There’s no way these people’s egos can handle such cold water, so they’ll continue to believe what they need to believe.
Delusion and projection: where would the Left be without them?
There’s a parallel analogy. Butt I’m resisting the temptation to go there.
Mightily, I may add.
That pic bears a startling resemblance to Kari Norgaard. I am not making this up.
she fell for a con is to admit that she’s neither as bright nor as perceptive as she thinks she is
To have always voted Democrat except once and still claim to be a moderate and pragmatic? Especially after what she personally witnessed at the Madison statehouse?
Not only less than perceptive, but positively delusional.
I guess Obama can take Althouse’s post as a sign that that particular type of idiot still wants to be useful but is a bit tired.
Of course the question, is will he throw her and people like her a bone or just jerk the leash to set her(their) mind(s) right?
That’s my take away as well, since the real point of that post (to my mind) is the “Note”
Note to Ann: Mitt Romney’s going to have a hard time being seen an likeable and, especially, normal.
But for certain, he’s running to be the everything you like about Obama, and nothing you don’t guy.
Which I guess is only supposed to be a problem for those of us who don’t like anything about Obama. And how many of us can there be, right?
ModeratePotemkin Obama.FTFY, Ann.
I was reading the comments over there, had to quit @ 254. Not because of Ann, or even the topic so much.
See, there was an off topic(sorta) debate going on where a guy said Obama is no radical, and had done nothing republicans haven’t done before, and damn it to hell if the argument doesn’t leave you sputtering, IF you are a Romney supporter.
I saw a glimpse of the general election campaign, and it wasn’t pretty. Ann is on to something. Obama CAN pull off the moderate thing again…not in truth, but relatively, by contrasting himself against Romney. Who, as we all know will most definitely not be calling Obama a radical.
We’re so fucked…
Althouse sounds an awful lot like an abused woman who is trying to rationalize why she won’t leave the abuser.
Yes, Lee. And then people like me will get the blame for “weakening” Romney with all my pointing to his record.
I must say that it’s awfully nice of her commenters to stage the intervention that Ann obviously needs.
This. If you voted for Kerry in ’04 you can’t even see moderate from your house.
How do you run as a pragmatic moderate after governing as a radical lefty?
Blame Nancy and Harry?
Ideological non-foundationalism is meant to be used dishonestly as a foil. Gotta feel sorry for the saps that actually swallow it.
“Sublimely” might become my new favorite snark word.
Go for the perfecta, bh: unexpectedly sublime.
I’ve been getting a bit of the ol’ pushback at the state level for not jumping onboard the Romney express. Here’s a direct quote from a couple days ago: “You really think you’re better than Ron Johnson?”
Want to bet on whether or not they’ll still want me manning the phones, driving people, or shaking the money tree come the general? I have a feeling I might be too busy with that open Senate seat.
Heh, McG. That has a nice ring to it.
I have a feeling I might be too busy with that open Senate seat.
Sen. bh – now that has a nice ring to it.
Ha! SW.
While I’m far cleaner than anyone Obama would consider supporting, I’d have to stop my youthful indiscretions if I ever wanted to refer to them as “youthful indiscretions”.
Cleaner? Articulate? With no discernible accent?
Come now, bh. You have a compelling personal story and modern politics is all about the narrative. I say go for it and make your little brother stay out the tattoo parlors.
Oh, all of those things. And a snappy dresser.
Unfortunately, the number of disqualifying camera phone pictures has to be in the thousands.
Run as a Democrat first, be upfront about all your failings, then once you are forgiven switch to Republican.
And don’t even mention the embarrassing red-light-camera photos.
By standing next to your severely conservative republican opponent and listing all the many, many things you have in common?
Want to bet on whether or not they’ll still want me manning the phones, driving people, or shaking the money tree come the general? I have a feeling I might be too busy with that open Senate seat.
There’s a reason Vegas doesn’t have a book for “odds that night will follow day.”
I can’t wait for the Mittbot fearmongering/guilt tactics/facile arguments that will follow the nomination in the effort to get me on board (I’ve done GOTV stuff for the GOP before).
I’ve weathered (1) and (3) from the internet. As to (2), I’m Catholic, so Mitt’s minions are pikers in that department.
