“White House Admits Asking Media to Scrub Reports of Malia Obama’s Mexican Vacation”

Media complies, says it will now get back to the important business of scouring Bristol Palin’s trash for used rubbers, or maybe filming the Bush twins doing upside down margaritas with Kenny Chesney’s roadies.

  1. I get the punching back twice as hard, but I’m reluctant for children to be caught in the crossfire of collateral damage. If the only way to win is to become them, is it worth it?

  2. Jeff G. says:

    Charles —

I think the problem is that they let the kids go there in the first place. And the consequent scrubbing of the story once it was out. I mean, now the story is about the scrubbing — but the content, that is, where the children are, is still available.

This speaks more to the control this administration has over the media than to whether or not the story should have been run.

  3. GMan says:

    Charles,

    Yes.

  4. leigh says:

If the DHS has issued a travel advisory for us peons citizens to stay out of Mexico due to the danger of the Cartels, why is the president sending his 13 year old daughter there with twelve of her BFFs and 25 SS guys?

    That is my question.

  5. I’m not defending Obama’s decision to send his daughter there, the press’ decision to write about it, the White House’s request to pull the stories, or the press’ decision to do what the White House asks. I think the Obama’s made a bad decision for many reasons, most especially the risk to Malia and all the Secret Service agents who have to protect her. I also think the press needs to leave everyone’s kids alone, the White House needs to not expect a lapdog press to do its bidding, and, of course, the press needs to stop acting like a lapdog.

I just cringe a little every time anyone’s kids are used by either side to score points.

    As do I.

Like when Obama brought up his daughters to explain his call to Ms Fluke, but not his wife’s appearance on Letterman.

  7. sdferr says:

It ain’t the misdemeanor, it’s the coverup.

  8. Pablo says:

I just cringe a little every time anyone’s kids are used by either side to score points.

This isn’t really about the kid, though she’s obviously a player in the story. This is about Obama’s parental judgment, his lapdog media, national security implications and the incessant and excessive use of taxpayer funds to finance Obama vacations. All of which is fair game.

  9. Car in says:

I’m bothered by the fact that he spares no expense for the enjoyment of his family members.

    On our dime.

and the other stuff Jeff said.

  10. Pablo says:

    That is my question.

Because they’re royalty and we’ll pay to see that she’s protected. But you rubes? Don’t do it.

  11. Car in says:

    And what Pablo said.

  12. Car in says:

Guesses as to how she got there? Air Force 2 anyone?

  13. Pablo says:

Something tells me it wasn’t Aeromexico.

  14. Abe Froman says:

This really is a Ghetto Fabulous presidency.

  15. leigh says:

    7.2 earthquake in Acapulco!

Now will we have to evacuate the little darlings? and to hell with the Mexicanos!

  16. cranky-d says:

As I said on another thread, I wouldn’t go there even if security were provided. Mexico can be very dangerous, and they do not have rule of law.

  17. Blake says:

The big question is: Why? Why would the Obama’s go ahead with a trip the Secret Service, more than likely, advised against?

We know the Obama’s don’t care about taxpayer dollars. So why put their child in harms way? What is the point?

Could the White House be looking to drum up support, through creating a phony “look what they said about my kid” issue? (with these people, it’s always political)

  18. Pablo says:

You can’t fault a 13 year old for wanting to go on a trip with her friends. She’s 13, after all. That’s why 13 year olds are supposed to have parents making such decisions.

  19. leigh says:

I don’t have a problem with pointing out the indulgences of the daughters Obama. Trip to France? Trip to Spain (only one daughter)? Trip to Africa with Granny? Schooled at Sidwell Friends? Check, check, check and check.

And, yet they always look sullen and dress like mall rats.

  20. Abe Froman says:

We went on a class trip to Washington DC at her age, but that’s only nominally a Third World country.

  21. Squid says:

If the stories were about the Obama girls getting drunk and disorderly and entering wet t-shirt contests, then I’d be right there with you. If they named lodgings and itineraries, then I’d understand the opsec worries. But as others have said already, this story isn’t about the girls or their security — it’s about their parents and their overweening sense of entitlement.

Any news reporter with an ounce of integrity would be pounding out another in a long series of columns regarding the myriad ways in which the Royal Family’s deeds do not follow their words. Irresponsible parenting, an offensive sense of privilege, hypocritical extravagance while mouthing sympathies to working families — it’s all right there, and it’s only secondarily about the kids.

I was just looking for a newspaper article covering the last of the real editors and publishers, and what’s become of the publications they once managed. Surprise, surprise — everyone seems to have missed that story.

  22. McGehee says:

Rule of law is for the little people.

  23. sdferr says:

And the kicker, embarrassed shame at exposure, hence the scurry to hide.

  24. LBascom says:

Yeah, a 7.6 quake in Oaxaca. Good luck scrubbing Mila’s presence now.

  25. leigh says:

Mexican press printed pictures of Princess Obama and BFFs yesterday in Quien (I believe it was) magazine, via Daily Caller.

  26. Dave J says:

When you are down south of the border looking for Eric Holder’s missing pistolas and evil assault rifles you got to keep it on the down low…Of all the places to go on Spring break, what irresponsible parent sends their kid to Mexico?

  27. Car in says:

We can talk about it, but it would now be crass to question their judgment.

  28. rjacobse says:

    They’re not a lapdog media.

They’ve gone far beyond that. They are now–and always will be in my mind–the Lickspittle Media. [spits on ground]

  29. leigh says:

So this is being billed as a “school trip”? O-kay, then.

Someone needs to track down a parent or two and find out their daughters’ itinerary and if they flew commercial. And what the fuck were they thinking! letting their 13 year old go to Mexico of all places. Next time, just send them to Syria for the cultural enrichment.

All in the interest of good investigative journalism.

  30. Squid says:

I love that the White House statement is that Malia is “safe and was never in danger” on her “school trip.”

What are they studying, Mouthpiece? Will there be a test?

  31. LBascom says:

    Be careful what you say

  32. leigh says:

I’m not going to live in fear of my electronics.

And, I’ll see you all in the Re-education Camps, Comrades.

  33. mojo says:

Since when do gaggles of 13-year old girls go on “Spring Break” to Mexico?

Stupid to allow it, even stupider to (cat-like) try and cover the mess up.

As for the kids – I’M not the one who put them on the table as props.

  34. Beto Ochoa says:

Prez: Eric, I want to send Malia and her white friends to Mexico for spring break. How safe is it?
Holder: Well, we own Oaxaca and all the cops there. Can I ask a favor since she’s going?
    Prez: Sure. What’s your favor.
Holder: I have a delivery that’s a little on the late side and wondered if some extra crates of “luggage” could go in Air Force 2…..

  35. Little bit OT, but I’ve been spending a lot of time in Monterrey and honestly, unless you are in the way,for an American, it’s not that bad. Please understand, I spent the worst years of the crack epidemic in North Philly, so I may have a bit of a callous. What is frightening is that you can’t really plan. The gangs aren’t after you, but you may end up in the middle of a firefight at any time. Not much different than the Badlands in the eighties. Stay in the open, don’t go out at night, stay away from the windows, do what the locals do.

  36. Swen says:

If the Secret Service agents are as competent as the rest of the folks the Obumbles have chosen to surround themselves with….

Aren’t there laws against child endangerment or are those for the little people too?

  37. Stephanie says:

It’s not a spring break trip as Sidwell Friends website has spring break a different week. Exactly what kind of trip is it?

  38. newrouter says:

Aren’t there laws against child endangerment or are those for the little people too?

there may be. but i shouldn’t have subsidize stupidcredentialed peeps

  39. newrouter says:

  41. sdferr says:

Heh. Insty‘s now got a link to the story about the story about the scrubbing being scrubbed. Soon, it’s gonna be the story about the story about the scrubbing being scrubbed that’s scrubbed.

  42. geoffb says:

Can’t we go back to the good old days when the press knew how to treat the President’s kids?

  43. LTC John says:

LB, please don’t link to a Spencer “Attackerman” column again…I’ll never get that 2 minutes back. Heh.
