It's official: Congressional Dems are disingenuous, cynical shitheels [updated]

If only they’d have the good sense to define themselves as non-essential, we could get to work fixing this country.

See my earlier post here.

President Obama just embroiled our military in a Libyan civil war, an elected “humanitarian” engagement. Our armed forces are already deployed on a number of additional fronts, fighting in several theaters. But the Dems — lead by the Commander-in-Chief, are willing to withhold military pay if they think they can pin poor optics on the Republicans.

Good men.

****
update: via Mark Levin, assistance for welfare recipients uninterrupted by shutdown. Meaning in Obama’s America, welfare recipients will be paid in the event of a government shutdown, but soldiers sent into battle will not.

Yes we can!

You used the word “shitheel”. You get 10 points.

Not only that, but Libya is a whole new war, separate, and even conflicting in mission and goals from the pre-existing war against radical Islam being fought in Afghanistan.

This government is arming the very people we are already at war with, the enemies our volunteer soldiers are facing in combat.

    It’s Monstrous.

I think the only thing that has the power to shock me any more is how pathetically bad these attempts at political hackery actually are. It’s pathetic, and yet they know the MBM will be right there with them.

If they’re going to be shitheels, they could at least spin a better yarn about it.

Speaking of Dems, shutdowns, and money: Rep. Linda Sanchez can’t afford to miss a paycheck. She lives paycheck-to-paycheck “like most Americans” so would be unwilling to forego the money. On $174,000 a year plus a handsome benefits package, unlike most Americans.

That can’t be smart politics. Just can’t be.

Terrific. I am unable to summon words for this @#$%. I can get by, but the E-4 fighting in Helmand Province right now? I’d cram this one so far up Harry Reid’s hiney it would tickle his tonsils.

You can go ahead and say “ass” here, LTC John. I don’t mind.

“Squeakhole,” “bum,” “dusty, dirty, desert snake trail” — all those are fine, as well.

Asking soldiers to do it walk patrol while their families go without the benefit of their financial support? It’s the Chicago way writ large.

President EmptySuit is addressing the nation right now. I think we’re all supposed to buy new cars or something.

  16. Bob Reed says:

This really grinds my gut. This didn’t happen during the 90’s; even Billy Jeff made sure the defense appropriations were passed, so we would get paid.

And as is SOP for the “Champions! of the little man!“, it will be those at the lowest end of the pay scale, the enlisted personnel, as Colonel John points out, who will suffer the most because their families will be left out in the cold back home.

But of course, public assistance payments will be uninterrupted…

    Amen LTC!

I wonder if the outlaw brigade would do our active duty a favor tonight and share similar sentiments with your Senators. Tell them you have a brother, cousin, uncle or best friend that is deployed, living paycheck to paycheck, and the well being of his family is in serious jeopordy if his representative puts politics ahead of voting for the continuing resolution which includes funding for the military. Tell him you are aware of everything in the bill (and if he has supported the items in the riders add that little nugget as well).

Remind him that he has already failed once to fulfill his obligation to pass a budget (primarily for Democrats). That you intend to hold him personally accountable if he turns his back on our troops down range and you will not tolerate any scapegoating (by him or the President).

THE BALL IS IN HIS COURT!!!

Soldiers often live just as hand-to-mouth as those folks.

    Fuck Obama.

You think welfare recipients are the most un-essential of all.

You obviously aren’t a Democrat running for reelection.

  24. Squid says:

I think we’re about to see a number of high-profile cases of people giving generously to their active-duty neighbors, with little prepared statements like, “If our Commander-In-Chief doesn’t appreciate these brave women and men enough to see that their families are cared for while they’re away in some godforsaken sandbox, then by God, we will. Real Americans take care of their own.”

Get that repeated in 40 or 50 major media markets, and it’s likely to leave a mark.

Apologies in advance to my military friends for what is essentially using their families as a political prop, but in my defense: 1) we’re trying to help, and B) we didn’t start it.

  25. Slartibartfast says:

even Billy Jeff made sure the defense appropriations were passed, so we would get paid

No, it turns out that’s been corrected in the post that Jeff links to. Go read it again. Turns out there was a budget resolution that had already been passed that covered military pay:

A frequent question is how this compares to the last government shutdown in 1995-1996. There were two shutdowns at that time, one of five days, from November 13 through November 19, 1995, and one of 21 days, from December 15, 1995 through January 5, 1996. The first shutdown was not long enough to affect pay checks, and DOD was not affected by the second because defense appropriations were enacted on December 1, so funding was available.
