Fatal Risk released

Our friend and frequent commentator Roddy Boyd’s new book, Fatal Risk — an examination of AIG and its role in the 2008 financial meltdown — has been released, and to nice notices.

Congrats to Roddy on the book! If you’re interested in good, solid investigative journalism — and are curious how the government and business operate sometimes in concert, other times at odds — I recommend you pick up a copy.

And give Roddy his props. Writing books is easy (just ask Amanda Marcotte!); but writing well-researched, rigorously studied books is not.

Congrats, Roddy. And a question. Is Roddy the commenter formerly known as mcgruder? As usual, I’m probably wrong, but it seems mcgruder, a financial reporter, disappeared right around the same time Roddy Boyd, a financial reporter, appeared. Either way, congratulations. Now, I’m just waiting for Jeff’s book!

  27. Blake says:

I’ve a good friend who works in insurance and has ties throughout the industry.

We discussed Hank Greenburg and AIG at one point. My friend had information that lead him to believe that had Greenburg not been run off by Spitzer, AIG would have stopped writing CDS’s. Not because Greenburg had any qualms one way or another about CDS’s. Rather, Greenburg just didn’t believe in having too much exposure in any one area.

  30. Jeff G. says:

With the election this close, the left will steal it.

I’m actually ashamed of the voters of WI right now. I’m ashamed of our country for allowing liberty to slip away like this.

  31. Blake says:

What’s pathetic is how the left will rejoice if their person wins, because they know she’ll “vote the right way.”

We’re looking at the death of the rule of law and the ascendancy of the rule of men.

Yeah, I know the bell has been tolling for a while.

  32. Jeff G. says:

I look at it this way: WI had its chance. Now, if it goes belly up? Fuck it.

  33. Jeff G. says:

If I ran a business I’d pack my shit up and get out of WI now.

  38. Mr B says:

You have to go all the way back to 1980 for the WI record spring vote turnout, but this time was good too. It’s the people that don’t give a shit to vote that piss me off the most.

At the WI court site: “The Supreme Court is composed of seven justices, elected to 10-year terms in statewide, non-partisan April elections.”

    Non-partisan my ass.

  39. cranky-d says:

  40. Stephanie says:

Congrats on the book, Roddy. I’ll pick it up.

Been a long day. I’m not looking forward to a recount, btw. It feels like it’s been non-stop politics here in Wisco since early 2010. Getting tired of it to be honest. Maybe I should pick up an invigorating speed habit.

Okay, that’s enough of my moaning.

  52. Mr B says:

585 vote separation now. Not good.

  53. Roddy Boyd says:

Thanks to Abe Froman and Bob.. and to Jeff for the Publicity.
Yes, I was McGruder, who is a character in a novel about terrorism I framed out but never did anything with (but may yet.)
It got up to #303 on AMZN yesterday…..hopefully, I can get some legs under this.

    In gratitude,
    Roddy

  54. LTC John says:

Roddy – I may have to pick a copy to send to our former CEO (I work for Zurich) – he used to make a stinging remark about waking up and wanting to call Sec. Treas. and ask “say, did you just give $150 billion of taxpayer money to our biggest American competitor?”

  55. JHoward says:

Nice work, Roddy. Would be interesting to learn what you found inside the derivative phenomenon in general and it’s ties to the Jenga monetary system. It ain’t over yet.

I think now’s the time for them to declare a winner.

  60. Roddy Boyd says:

    Jhoward–thanks very very much!
Ltc John: Yes, please do. A guy like him would be interested in some of the details….As, I am hoping, an overeducated sort like you would too!

    In gratitude,
    Roddy

  61. LTC John says:

    Roddy,

Of course, Mr. Schiro made a heck of a lot more than I ever did/will. So I’ll just keep the copy for myself – maybe I’ll just send him a note that he should buy a copy himself :)
