I never once tried to go after your job. Not once. To suggest that I did is just more of what I’ve come to expect of you.
Christ. What a fraud you are.
Period. Full stop.
I never once tried to go after your job. Not once. To suggest that I did is just more of what I’ve come to expect of you.
Christ. What a fraud you are.
Period. Full stop.
Don’t forget the part where the Very Clear Language on Patterico is nevertheless being wilfully misinterpreted by an opponent, and THE OBVIOUS INTENT OF THE UTTERANCE IS NOT A DEFENSE against the maliciously hysterical lizardoids.
I do enjoy seeing Pat having to write long–perhaps multiple–posts to defend against accusations of MAKING DEATH THREATS.
Civility now, Pat. Tut tut.
Just can’t leave it alone, can he?
Isn’t nice to know we have prosecutors who behave like schoolgirls with grudges?
:: eye roll ::
(On the other hand, a slap fight between Patrick and Charles would be hilarious.)
The internet is a joke. Dustin, over in Frey’s comments, says that the “Is Patrick Frey anti-semitic?” posts were me going after his job. The fact I never sent anything to his bosses, that those posts were directly in response to “Is Stacy McCain racist?”-type posts, as a way to illustrate a linguistic argument (and were very clearly satirical and parodic) — and that Dustin doesn’t say that Frey was in any way going after Stacy McCain’s livelihood — is just par for the course with that hive of sophists and frauds.
Also not going after someone’s livelihood? Threats to prevent him from ever getting published, Googlebombing his site with suggestions that he’s a violent pyschopath, and running around pretending I’ve made serious actionable death threats.
The guy is a straight-out character assassin. I’ve never gone after his job. But I’m beginning to think he doesn’t belong in the position he holds.
Also, surreal.
The Internet is a joke.
Indeed. The biggest joke these days being that all that “violent rhetoric” that gives the left the vapors is as mild as mother’s milk compared to what goes down every day in comment threads.
Which, half of the commenters are unbalanced loners (guess which half I am!), and if it were possible to provoke these freaks into a shooting spree because of “violent rhetoric,” about 3/5 of the country would be wiped out already.
For the record: All we ever did was ask a few innocent questions about Pat’s beliefs and associations. All we did was demonstrate that what Patrick himself was doing at the time was unfair and dangerous. All we did was try to show him the error of his ways, by simply using his ways against him.
The man is a liar and a fraud. Even measured against other lawyers, he’s a particularly nasty piece of work. And his acolytes and sycophants that continue to build their little cocoon do themselves no favors by remaining willfully blind to poisonous atmosphere they choose to live in.
As I said earlier: I hope Chuckles and Patsy enjoy a long and mutually destructive relationship. They and their respective camps should all be perfectly miserable together.
And it bears repeating that we explained what we were doing at the time. Either they’re too thick to understand an applied case of “stop hitting yourself” therapy, or they’re too dishonest to admit that they started it. Which is it, Jurors? Stupid or just lying?
I need to get out of the house and get some air.
Seriously, just the other day he was parading himself around on RSM’s site as if he were above the fray — that the past is past, and he doesn’t even think of me anymore. And yet here he is, emailing people who mention him deep in the comments here, and then foisting this new lie about me on his site.
Wonder if he is hitting the wine again.
Textualism. Doesn’t matter what we intended. Nor does the rather obvious parodic tone and language act as a mitigating factor over what are the plain meaning of the words (as interpreted by reasonable people with no sense of humor or irony). Short people got no reason to live… DEATH THREAT!
— Intent only matters if you write a legally binding disclaimer announcing your metaphoricalness in advance or some such. It’s all very confusing, this rule book he uses.
Seems as though Patricco was going after Stacy McCain’s livelihood it does. My, what a little shitweasel.
It’s not just the internet. Glenn Beck playing Frances Fox Piven’s own words is incitement to murder her according to the Paper of Record.
BREAKING: Patrick Frey is still a slimebag.
Pablo,
I wonder if that’s something they teach you in Law School.
Well, the moral I learned from that story is that when you’re dealing with a particularly dense Tool of the State, it’s always better to tell him what he’s doing is wrong. Showing him that his actions are wrong will only end in tears.
Actually, I take it back. What I learned is that any interaction with a particularly dense Tool of the State is going to end in tears. It’s like trying to reason with a four-year-old who thinks he’s the crown prince.
Someone here is about to call his dog by saying, “Here, boy,” when a black man is present. I know this for a fact.
RAAAAACISTS!

Damned smartphone.
I just love how they link to your entire post as proof of a threat.
It’s just one step away from linking the OED as proof of a threat. After all, it contains words that you can put together to make a threat, if you have enough willingness to lie.
There was no threat in that post, not that Dustin, Scott, or any of the others are smart enough to realize that. That was an actual woodshedding, not a threat of anything.
Slart,
Beavis-wannabes:
Are you threatening me??? I am the Great Cornholio!
Let’s take a little walk down memory lane. From the instant blogwar classic I don’t know if Patrick Frey is an anti-semite, but he’s quite clearly an asshole
I tell you, it’s a pretty lowdown, dirty thing to try depriving a man of his ability to make a living. What kind of scumbag would do that?
Dustin sez:
Both before AND after engaging in similar silliness.
He just doesn’t care about Jeff, only he’s got sufficient time and effort to fritter away on at least a half-dozen comments, while attempting to cover himself in superhero glory because he says he found an error in Jeff’s CV.
And what the fuck is up with daleyrocks? Didn’t he used to hang out here? If he did, he obviously didn’t understand any of the discussion.
[waves at lurking Pat Frey]
Hi, creep!
There’s an error in my CV? I have a CV?
According to Dustin (Whoever he even is…commenter? Front-pager? Who cares, really?), yes. And you’re pissed at him because of it.
And he should know, you threatening person, you.
Oh. Now, Patterico is finding threats in “But I’m beginning to think he doesn’t belong in the position he holds.”
Who knew you were such a badass, Goldstein?
over whether Obama has any good in him, or rather is just evil
So the argument wasn’t over whether Obama is “a good man” (which I would take to mean “a mostly, or almost-entirely ‘good’ man, who only wants the best for America, someone who’s well worth giving the benefit-of-the-doubt to”) or not, and is now being reframed as “entirely 100% evil versus merely ‘mostly evil, with some scattered goodness'”.
Because even Pat can’t stand there with a straight face and say “he’s a good man” at this point in time, so we’ve got to pretend that that wasn’t what he was arguing 2 years ago. It never happened!
Now where the hell did I leave those goalposts? I swear, they were right here a minute ago…
I’m pissed at Dustin because I have an error in my CV? Huh?
Meanwhile, Frey is obsessively poring through the comments here. Hi Pat! Still can’t quit me, huh?
By the way, I hear one of your guest posters issued a DEATH THREAT. Have you decided yet whether to bring charges against him?
Threats? No. My opinion that he’s a jackass who shouldn’t be in charge of prosecuting people because he has absolutely no scruples, and will lie, cheat, and invent “evidence” to win an argument, is just that: my opinion. Expressed here. On my site. In the comments.
Slart
Pat is used to making words mean exactly what he wants them to mean in court; why should he stop in private life?
Or was it the other way around … did he become a DDA in order to indulge himself?
But he can’t quit JeffG and the stalking is just plain creepy. In Dustin, Pat has his own Renfield.
Darleen, quit threatening Patterico’s job!
He should’ve offered the apology. Stubborn bastiche.
I think Dustin might be on some sort of drug. I don’t have a CV. And I don’t think I would have reacted the way he describes.
Also: See here. Pay particular attention to the dates.
“JEFF GOLDSTEIN PLAYS THE RACE CARD!”, “JEFF GOLDSTEIN WAS WRONG TO DEFEND ….STATUTORY RAPE OF WILLOW PALIN” — all prior to my cheeky posts about Frey’s (potential?) anti-semitism. And all in response to said posts, plus the series of posts questioning whether or not Robert Stacy McCain is racist.
Seems to me nobody was quick to determine that these were instances of Frey threatening people’s livelihoods.
Not to mention, Pablo already linked Frey’s direct threat on me.
Interesting, eh?
Yes. Patterico is almost completely devoid of the ability to understand that kind of thing, though, which…well, makes him probably a “productive” DDA, but I’m guessing the interests of what we think of as justice can’t possibly be served by that kind of dullard.
JOB THREAT!
Yeah, Frey keeps completely forgetting how he spilled the beans in his correspondence with Pablo.
But in his mind, Pablo’s sheer treachery in revealing it cancels out anything that Patterico could possibly have said; not saying he said anything untoward and all.
In much the same way that a snitch’s testimony is immediately discounted.
Oh. Oops.
Wait – remind how Frey worked all this out – wasn’t it something like “If Glenn Beck is pointing out to someone which of two dogs is the vicious female that should be avoided, and says, ‘The bitch on the left is violent,’ and a third person is hiding in the woods nearby unbeknownst to Beck, overhears the remark and thinks Beck is talking about Frances Fox Piven, then Obama is a good man and Jeff Goldstein threatened violence”? It’s so deep I have a hard time understanding it.
I can’t understand why PF gets knee-deep in these unnecessary conflicts knowing he’s got a soft underbelly. He must have a vault full of photos of various LA officials knee-deep in sheep and goats, as insurance against any curious questions. Why can’t he mellow out, chill, before the SHTF and a defense lawyer springs this crap during a trial?
Is Pat invincible?
Lest we forget.
Two days ago he said he’s over the right vs right pettiness. He had Charles Johnson and Paul Krugman to deal with.
Two days.
But he couldn’t hold back. Had to pretend I threatened his job. And then present himself as nobly overcoming such attacks — all in service to THE TRUTH!
So self-important. So delusional. So obsessive.
So sad.
Pat. Just. Can’t. Quit. You.
You move him.
He’s a liar and a fake and a douche.
He and Charles Johnson deserve one another. It will be an interesting battle, what with Charles slowed down by the ponytail, and Frey weighed down from having daleyrocks and Scott Jacobs stuck like suckerfish to his ass.
Wow, I must have pissed Pat off somehow, despite the fact that I almost never comment there. I posted a comment over there and it disappeared.
Don’t get too excited, it wasn’t very complimentary about anyone involved. But it did mention that the initial shot in this blog was was BS – the false accusation of a “death threat” given as some kind of “proof” against intentionalism. Since then it’s been a mutual spiral of overreaction.
Never argue with a lawyer, and never listen to an actor who’s not acting – ’cause they’re always acting.
If the post does show up, I’d be wrong, but other posts are showing up, so I think it’s just me.
I think I said that anyone who resolves this should get Barack’s Nobel Peace Prize, ’cause ain’t nobody backin’ down.
Impossible! Patterico doesn’t mess with his comments.
Unless of course there’s something like a subliminal death threat, or something that makes him believe you don’t like him.
Oh, and for fuck’s sake, SPQR has taken a dunk in the dumb tank.
I give up. Is dipshittery catching?
OK, that does it. I’m going to have to find a new hero.
Where might I find a Good Man?
Hey, anyone want to review 80 Little-Known Facts about Jeff Goldstein from December 2009? They hold up pretty good!
Also, THIS is the most brilliant blog post ever posted in the history of the blogosphere. DAMN I used to be clever.
Who is SPQR? That sounds familiar.
Keep up the great work, di —
You’re the lapidary non-logorrhea champion easyliving1 has been waiting for.
To save him from the pedestrianism.
Thing is, I go YEARS being pedestrian, all so I can save up and become the MAN for months at a time. The ancient Chinese called this strategy, “a-smaht, a-zo-smaht.”
I’m only pedestrian between the parking garage and the revolving door, and also when I take a stroll around the duck pond.
Rest of the time it’s the car.
SmokeVanThorn: Now THAT is the most succinct expression of Frey’s nonsense that I ever have seen.
You gets the scepter this time.
But the tiara is mine forever.
Hygiene thing, see, what with touching the scalp and all.
Well, my post did eventually show up, loooong afetr I sent it. I did not think they were held for review, maybe it had a scary word in it.
As I said over there, I don’t usually buy “equivocation” arguments because real conflicts are rarely even. And this one certainly isn’t perfectly even. But that really doesn’t matter.
For Jeff, the argument can’t be let go because the core of the dispute is the core of his philosophy. Pat can’t let it go because, well, he’s a lawyer.
I happen to agree with Jeff on the original issue – intentionalism is how you should start interpreting, and resort to textualism only if you can’t determine intent. Ultimately either one can promote dishonesty, but it’s easier to do it with the latter.
That’s my key problem with Scalia, BTW. Often right but via the wrong process.
Oh, wait. SPQR is a guy who commented here from 2005-2008, then followed Karl over to Pat’s place, and later defended nk’s having said nasty shit about my family.
So I submit he’s done more than taken a dunk. In fact, he’s been marinating in the dumb tank for a couple of years now at least.
Lawyers turn vicious because they hate their jobs. They don’t want to be there.
You did not try to get Patterico fired. Because he sucks. Let him suffer in the crack he fell into.
He always has that California public employee retirement to look forward to.
Frey and all his commenters know that they’re backing a bullshit accusation. They just want the accusation itself to do its job — tether me to TBogg and Charles Johnson, et al. — then they’ll let it go.
The irony is that they comment on a putatively conservative site, but they consistently thrive by adopting the tactics and worldview of the left. Only with a desire for lower taxes and less adult content on family hour TV.
I see them for who they are. And it galls them. I mean, Christ, look at the way they’ve taken to contorting themselves to forgive Frey for the very same kinds of offenses I’m supposed to have committed — even though he initiated the kinds of offenses they purportedly find so damaging and untoward. Like blaming Israel for responding to a terror attack with a retaliatory strike, then petitioning the world community for support while claiming victim-hood.
Phonies and sophists, the lot of them.
Frey and all his commenters know that they’re backing a bullshit accusation.
Frey, certainly. The others? We’re not talking rocket surgeons here, Jeff.
I’m posting a copy of my reply to Dustin over at Patterico’s, otherwise I’ll be accused again of only blaming Patterico because I only posted there. Or whatever.
In short, I don’t think either of y’all is gonna stop, and one of you is gonna have to die of old age before the blog war stops. Which is sad, because I used to like both of y’all a lot more.
—————————-
Jeff overreacts. It’s his nature. Stop poking him with a stick and he’ll stop overreacting. That argument started before the “rope tree” comment, even on that thread, and didn’t stop afterward.
You think Jeff is in the wrong, he things you’re in the wrong. You both post lots of links to things you think the other side did wrong. Have you looked at his? It ain’t all puppies and flowers. Some of it is prodding from Pat, some of it is just Jeff overreacting.
And guess what, Pat’s posts about Jeff? Some of that is actual bad behavior by Jeff, and some of it is just Pat poking Jeff with a stick to see him dance. Because Jeff will dance, no doubt about that.
I am certainly not going to dig through the last year’s archives on both sites to list everybody’s claimed offenses and my judgment of which are valid or not, I have a freakin’ life (if not much of one).
But if y’all just keep on claiming to be the aggrieved party and no one is gonna take it lying down, everybody’s gonna be dead of old age before the argument ends.
It’s up to you.
In summary, I think Patterico and JeffG present themselves very differently, but they both claim a long list of offenses (some of which are valid) and neither one is going to let it go. Jeff is more of a “wild man” and overreacts to things, which doesn’t help. Patterico likes to be subtle (and sarcastic) and that sets Jeff off as sure as lighting a fuse.
If you think someone is irrational, you avoid them. In real life. On the internet, you make a career of it. Y’all say that about Jeff, but keep going back. Jeff says that about you, and keeps coming back.
Y’all both have a list of more than a year’s worth of offenses, whether it’s actual or perceived insult, accusations of dishonesty, or real or perceived manipulation attemtps (including google-bombing, which Jeff claims was some sort of point about RS Mccain and Pat claims was a threat to his job, and both sides repeatedly bringing the issue back up)…
You know what? I think I’m wasting my time. Enjoy your blog war. I’ll be at Ace’s.
Yes. Exactly, Merovign. No one is more “subtle” than Frey. Plus, he doesn’t over-react. So he’s got that going for him.
Yup.
Subtle?
Someone missed quite a bit.
Remember that crazy ass night when he was leaving dozens of the same comment here? That’s the sort of subtle that Yelverton specializes in.
Yes, and then he acted as if Jeff were altering the basic meaning of some unique comments, as opposed to altering copies of what amounted to the same comment, over and over, inserted apparently randomly into one thread right after another.
Which is the same as effectively banned. If you’re permitted to post the same thing once or twice or even more times, and then mocked by having several of the other couple of dozen copies of that very same comment changed, that’s effectively banned. Jeff is stifling his right to spam comments obsessively.
Patterico’s problem, I think, is that he thinks he can be DDA in the rest of his life, and mount inquisitions and public trials as he pleases, and that he should be deferred to while he’s busy kicking dirt on other people.
And he still hasn’t learned. He’s still going on as if RS McCain was for sure a racist, and permitting or even encouraging his lackeys to do likewise.
With “allies” like that, best to keep your kidneys covered.
Patterico’s reasoning goes something like this: if I can find even one hypothetical that doesn’t refute my thesis, then my thesis is correct.
Which is kind of like the scientific method with its underwear worn inside-out, and on the outside of its clothing.
38 of the same comment, I think it was. I left the original alone. He never mentions that when he’s claiming victimhood, does he?
But yeah, just as the Constitution isn’t a suicide pact, I’m not paying to host a poorly thought out Google bomb.
I was on a jury where the defense lawyer had that kind of attitude.
We convicted his client.
As for PF’s job being threatened, I did once wonder aloud what his boss would think about him posting 38 copies of the same comment in posts close to a year old.
He responded by mocking me for wanting to damage his professional standing over his behavior, only the way he said it got, er, interpreted (heh) as an admission that his boss actually would have a problem with the spamming.
I don’t think PF liked having his intent subject to adverse reinterpretation any more than anybody else does.
Which, he not saying he’s a racist, he’s just asking lots of questions about him being a racist.
WHY DO YOU KEEP PUTTING WORDS IN HIS MOUTH? You’re trying to get him fired, aren’t you?
While you’re here, Pablo, comment #32 wasn’t intended to equate you with snitches.
I think of you more as an uncompensated, free-lance whistleblower. A bullshit-caller, if you will.
The thought never crossed my mind, Slart. I have no regrets whatsoever, and see no reason why I should.
He’s a good man.
Where “He” equals “whomever, except Jeff”
.
Frey is about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
Perhaps Pat confused anti-Semitic with anti-semiotic. Take some denotata and sign me in the morning.
Interesting to see what Patrick Frey is up to these days. Years ago I commented on his website, an unhinged and violence-supporting website, on a Polanski-related post – and I received death threats by the people commenting there. I was then asked by a commenter there to convert to Christianity. The same man was a follower of Darrell Issa, a Republican US congress member from San Diego. Apparently being Hezbollah’s representative in the US Congress is enough for Patrick Frey’s followers. Frey himself clearly monitored the comments and intervened occasionally to stoke the fire. Patrick Frey has a stable of radical anti-Semites in his blog, people who support terrorism against United States, no doubt because he himself is one.
The fact this demented Nazi and pathological liar called Patrick Frey is a United States District Attorney explain why so many convictions are thrown out for lack of evidence. The man lies as he breathes. The regrettable thing is that these Goebbels-style figures pursuing fake prosecutions on public money are not thrown in jail. Can anyone explain why?
Best ignored.
Oh dear. Someone’s cuckoo for cocoa puffs! Serves me right for clicking on an ancient post.
