Hug Me, Or Else [Dan Collins]

David Thompson has up another one of his excellent posts, but before I get to that, I’d like to show a snippet from an article to which I was directed by La Malkin, regarding the shouting down of a speech at the University of Massachusetts:

“We intended for the event to be a forum for the expression of a conservative perspective on hate crime legislation, but also to provide a give and take with the audience, who we expected would disagree with his perspective,” said Republican Club vice president Brad DeFlumeri.

“With that being said,” Deflumeri added, “the leftists who did attend made it quite clear quite early that they intended for the event to be shut down, that they intended to infringe upon Don Feder’s first amendment free speech rights.”

How do these young intellectuals justify their anti-intellectual, unconstitutional and boorish behavior? Why, on grounds of open-mindedness and civility, of course:

“There’s absolutely no room for hate speech on this campus,” said winter 2008 graduate Natalia Tylim. Her friend, senior Katie Perry, concurred, adding “I think campuses are places for open-mindedness, and this is the opposite of that.”

So David’s piece on the apparatus that Yale University has put in place to encourage more of this sense of victimage and its attendant entitlement to outrage will certainly not shock you at all, since it is designed to censor dissident opinion.

Oh, look! Entitlement!

Sooner or later, somebody is going to figure out they paid over $100,000 for their kid to play Animal House.

  3. The little stalins in academia could save a lot of trees by replacing their speech codes with one simple statement: Everything that offends leftists is forbidden, while everything that offends conservatives is compulsory.

“We intended for the event to be a forum for the expression of a conservative perspective on hate crime legislation”

They achieved their purpose but the lesson went, whoosh, right through the heads of those who could have learned something from it.

Have y’all seen this guy? Rep. Thaddeus McCotter is a scream!

Check out this interview on Red-Eye.

Gutfield: Do you agree with what they’re saying [about Rush as the de facto head of the GOP]?

McCotter: I was asked the question on a cable show–obviously inferior quality to yours, which is really saying a lot–but I was asked, “How do you feel about being attacked for listening to Rush?” And I said “Who doesn’t love Canadian power-rock trios?” I did not know that digging 2112 and Moving Pictures was somehow impugning my motives as a Republican politician.

Where have they been hiding this guy?

We lurv McCotter here in Michigan.

I hated college kids when I was one of them. Stuffy little bastardy know-it-alls. Man, that was a long time ago.

It is disturbing, though, that they cannot see their hypocrisy and hatred.

Thank Gaia we have these future leaders to look forward to, unlike that “incurious” Sarah Palin.

So is it okay if Tylim hopes Deflumeri fails? It’s just so confusing.

  10. Dan Collins says:

Out of concern for potential side-effects, I wouldn’t mix the two, George.

The bank had provided him with a 2008 Porsche SUV

OK, I have an almost stereotypical love of all things four wheel and BIG.

But I’ll be damned if I’d ever drive a Porsche SUV.

I believe Ms. Natalia Tylim has mastered Newspeak to a degree far beyond her years. Big Brother must be proud indeed.

As a UMass alumnus (Class of ’73), I can only say that I am not surprised. UMass leftists have an inferiority complex – they’d really like to demonstrating their foolishness in a more prestigious setting. This causes them to be even more obnoxious than their counterparts at more selective schools and, truth be told, they are on average dumber than the liberal asses at those schools (take a gander at the comments in the Collegian). Combine all this with an administration with a tradition of gutlessness, and the result is a university notorious for its PC idiocy and intolerance.

    Way to go, UMies!

  17. SmokeVanThorn says:

Obviously, my second sentence should read “they’d really like to be demonstrating their foolishness in a more prestigious setting.”
