The Great Gay Hope? [Dan Collins]

Faggotaboutit.

It’s about why voters should never give their hearts over completely to politicians. As a class, they are inherently insecure — a character flaw at the base of all politicians, from Bill Clinton to Bob Packwood. And they lie, with rare exceptions — a hard thing to say at a time when the doors of possibility are open to leaders yet untarnished.

Heh. Packwood. Something about Aldous Huxley and untarnished yetis.

Nobody at age 17 knows what they are doing, which is why they should never be having sex with middle-aged men, especially those in powerful positions.

Erm.

Now Adams, with the support of some in this immensely tolerant city, will try to carry on — the first openly gay mayor of a major American city, with an asterisk.

That footnote holds a lesson, the words a wise Portlander told me long ago: Heroes are hard to come by, he said, especially when the lot you have to choose from is the human race.

Asterisky business! Fortunately, there’s The One. He transcends all that.

This is classic OTOH-BOTOH. Yes, it’s true that this was an ill-considered alliance, and he ought to be slapped on the wrist for that. But all politicians, gay or straight or even Jewish, are only human, and you oughtn’t put them on pedestals, except for Obama, because they didn’t ask for that, or something.

Related: “[T]he odds of my being a Republican Congressman as a married man are nil (they only want you to have a stable family life if you’re straight).”

Because, see, you can’t have a stable family life unless you’re married.

Don’t worry about the man part, though, Andrew. You’re not one.

I could care less that the Mayor of Portland is gay. That, in and of itself, would not make me vote for or against him.

But lying about sex with an underaged intern? Yeah, that is a problem. In some states, having sex with seventeen year old interns is not only frowned on, but can get you on the sex offender registry. And don’t get me going about conflict of interests and improper hiring. Did the fact this intern’s name was Beau Breedlove have anything to do with him getting the gig in the first place?

  2. Techie says:

Breaking News: Portland voters are shocked to discover gay politician is also, in fact, a politician.

  3. Bob Reed says:

Well I’m no Steinam feminist, but if pressed for my assessment…

I’d have to say that this was an improper relationship, where the young man in question was at a distinct power disadvantage

Why who knows? He might have felt there was a sexual requirement in the context of this relationship of unequal power…

But, then again, he might have just been lookin’ for a Sugar Daddy…Or Mr. Goodbar…Or Mr. Right-now…Or somethin’…

The politician, with the sturdy patriotic name of Sam Adams, denounced the rumors as scurrilous — they played to the worst stereotypes about homosexual predators, he said. How dare you.”

No Mr. Adams, the kind of behavior you exhibit is what plays to the worst stereotypes of homosexual predators!

    Speaking of which…

Exciteable Andy’s statement is a bit off, “[T]he odds of my being a Republican Congressman as a married man are nil (they only want you to have a stable family life if you’re straight).”

No, they’re not really worried about your orientation as much as they are about your RAWMUSCLGLUTES soirees, ones that probably would make Caligula blush!

That and your man-crush for the one!

More so, they want you to not be a screaming left winger.

  6. Bob Reed says:

    But which leg Dan?

Left, Right, or, well, you know

  7. Dan Collins says:

    Whichever is tingliest, I presume.

For some reason, I always thought Gavin Newsome was gay.

I always thought it was best to avoid gay mayors if you had an asterisk.

  11. fmfnavydoc says:

FYI…some of the mayor’s supporters have engaged in the “Prop 8” attack mode against a woman that spoke out at the city council meeting yesterday…went as far as to post address, phone number and kids info on a website.

Darth Rove…Newsome was married to Kimberly Guilfoyle for a couple of years (she use to be a Victoria’s Secret model), got remarried to Jennifer Siebel last July.

  12. MarkD says:

What are the odds on that remarried bit working out? This is the same guy who was involved with a subordinates wife, IIRC.

As a former boss once said, “people are interesting.” This train wreck more than most.

But I have been in a strictly monogamous relationship since the fall of 1988! How can this be so without legalized gay marriage?

Meanwhile, Andy and the ‘spouse’ that he so desperately wants the right to marry (in all states)regularly entertain ‘guests’, or so it is said in social circles and bar gossip in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Character and behavior matter. Even if you are gay.

Beware, Log Cabin! The Gayterratti may declare you “inauthentic.”

You should talk to Michael Steele about this thing.

That ship has sailed, Tex. If we are judged by the character of our enemies, I wear their scorn as a badge of honor.

Sam Adams = HIS PRIVATE LIFE IS OF NO CONCERN, YOU BLUENOSES!

  18. Mikey NTH says:

The whole aprt about ‘heroes’ was revealing. It isn’t about principles, it is about advocacy; that is, it is a politcal argument. And the homosexuality is the only thing that makes it different from any other tawdry little sex scandal.

If it had been a middle-aged heterosexual mayor having sex with a female teenage intern the mayor wouldn’t have this kind of support. The whole thing would be called an abuse of a power relationship, and he would be resigning to spend more time with his family. Thanks, Andy, for confirming that your principles (such as they are) are negotiable depending on the political offender’s sexual orientation.

From Ace of Spades (another honored Pajamas Media associate):

    Buh-bye Blago, you’ll be missed.

Wow, now they are just rubbing salt in the wound. The Senate is voting to prohibit Blago from ever holding office in the state again. Ouch.

Now he doesn’t have an office to trade in his criminal case. I wonder if he has any names he’d like to name.

Senator Rolland Burris only comment was, “I’m still Senator, right?” Technically, I may have made that up.

Thanks to Slu for the heads up on the vote and of course “The Blago Skull”. Damn I’m going to miss that.

Well it is certainly obvious that Sullivan has been pretty supplicant to The One for a long time now (along with some deep seated hostility at Sarah Palin’s uterus). So no surprise about the other rumors.

I will have to ask my wife if she is willing to have us entertain eighteen year old nubile female guests. I am sure that will go over real well.

In fact, I am pretty sure that would be even a worse ass kicking than the one Jeff Goldstein promised me!

Are you kidding Techie? The folks in Portland who voted for him have yet to discover that any democrats are politicians.

  23. TheGeezer says:

The story of Sam Adams is not about gay predators or gay anything

Bullshit. If this had involved a Catholic priest, priestly “pedophilia” would be emblazoned across newspapers, Time magazine, and bloodsucking attorneys would be lining up to earn fees. The truth is that most of the priestly “pedophilia” – over 95% of the cases – involved teenagers like Breedlove, but the MSM hates Catholics.

The truth about priestly “pedophilia” is that it was homosexual adult men (priests) having sex with young men – teenagers – and that is what this is about: a homosexual seducing a young man because he thought he could keep it secret by exploiting the naif.

But the MSM will fellate a white liberal in a second, eh? And white liberals will forgive a sexual exploiter if he’s one of their own. Fucking hypocrits.
