Inquiring Minds Want to Know [Dan Collins]

Roland Burris, Junior Illinois Senator Designate:

Mayan skull flattening:

I’m not saying. I’m just saying. You know?

More Burris: I’m so smart, I learned humility in a week.

    Just raising questions.

  2. Jeffersonian says:

    Did he star in “Ablagolypto?”

  3. MAJ (P) John says:

#2 – I don’t know whether to laugh at that or throw something at the screen…

    I denounce, I say.

    Cordially…

    Harry Reid, 12/30/08:

But this is not about Mr. Burris; it is about the integrity of a governor accused of attempting to sell this United States Senate seat. Under these circumstances, anyone appointed by Gov. Blagojevich cannot be an effective representative of the people of Illinois and, as we have said, will not be seated by the Democratic Caucus.

    Barack Obama, 12/30/08:

Roland Burris is a good man and a fine public servant, but the Senate Democrats made it clear weeks ago that they cannot accept an appointment made by a governor who is accused of selling this very Senate seat. I agree with their decision, and it is extremely disappointing that Governor Blagojevich has chosen to ignore it.

Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and Patty Murray, 12/30/08:

“It is truly regrettable that despite requests from all 50 Democratic Senators and public officials throughout Illinois, Gov. Blagojevich would take the imprudent step of appointing someone to the United States Senate who would serve under a shadow and be plagued by questions of impropriety. We say this without prejudice toward Roland Burris’s ability, and we respect his years of public service.

    Harry Reid, 1/12/09:

“We have spoken to Mr. Burris to let him know that he is now the Senator-designate from Illinois and as such, will be accorded all the rights and privileges of a Senator-elect.”

The more I watch, the more I think the next couple of years are going to be hilarious.

2 years , major. An election, and maybe Oberweise will finally get lucky.
In the meantime lets just watch him strut and fret his hour and laugh like hell.

  7. qwfwq says:

Just your typical 3rd-rate, Chicago political hack–nothing but a greasy hand in the till.

  8. qwfwq says:

Seriously. Burris is the kind of pol who sits in a big office with gold lettering on the door and takes 3-hour lunches at the best steakhouses on the taxpayer’s dime while his minions open sacks of envelopes full of checks to pay for jaywalking fines. He’s so nothing that he’s smaller than the smallest known atomic particle. He’s so small that he’s smaller than alphie’s brain; he’s so small–well, you get the idea.

The American public is not being well served. Fuck Blagojevich.

  9. Dan Collins says:

qwfwq, you have to admit that Chicago has produced some first-rate hacks, though.

  10. B Moe says:

I can put up with him for two years in exchange for Obama and Reid getting thoroughly rogered.

  11. qwfwq says:

    Our hacks are the best.

  12. B Moe says:

…the Illinois high court said that “no explanation has been given as to how any rule of the Senate, whether it be formal or merely a matter of tradition, could supersede the authority to fill vacancies conferred on the states by the federal constitution.”

Even if White’s stamp is accepted as valid, Senate Democrats still plan to take the matter to the Senate Rules Committee, so an investigation can be conducted and the matter can be voted on by the full Senate before Burris is seated.

I wonder if Burris or any of his cronies are smart enough to appreciate the irony that his appointment is in peril because of States Rights being usurped by the Federal Government?

  13. MAJ (P) John says:

#6 – oh no… he can’t even win Hastert’s old seat. He should just shut up and make ice cream.
