ACORN Whistleblower [Dan Collins]

Over at Power Line, B. Goldwater has the story of a whistleblower blog about ACORN (and SEIU):

“According to a meeting held between ACORN staff, and members in Chicago on July 19th 2008, Mesirow Financial was hired by the ACORN Board to ‘conduct a thorough review of CCI’s financial management and controls, make whatever recommendations they see fit….’

“During the 3 day board meeting that began on December 12th 2008 in New Orleans Mesirow delivered its report. According to insiders, Mesirow implied that ACORN is no different from any other Ponzi Scheme. Mesirow also implied that Citizen’s Consulting Inc. (CCI) was nothing but a washing machine for a giant money laundering scheme that encompassed over 200 active or defunct organizations. However, all money that flowed out of CCI came out all dingy and and tinged with corruption. The presentation left members with the impression that all of ACORN’s activities were nothing but ‘smoke and mirrors.’

Be interesting to see how this stacks up to Madoff.

ACORN apparently learned about even more embezzlement of funds intended to aid Katrina victims and axed 8 board members last week. Not, as is pointed out, a whole lot of media coverage of this, has there been? And a Windy City associate of Obama, one Madeline Talbott, gets kudos for realizing early on what kind of organization it really is. But don’t let that deter you from blaming Bush. Krugman and his admirers do, obviously. On the other hand, the NYT seems pretty even-handed about its criticism of tax cutters.

It’s a good thing Obama never had anything to do with ACORN or its affiliates, or at least nothing you can find after they finish scrubbing those web pages.

Taxation distorts the marketplace? Who woulda thunk it?

I wonder if any of the skepticism is due to the fact that “She was fired early this year over personal expenses she had put on the group’s credit card.”

If you’re wondering what liberal media outlet printed that, it was the Wall Street Journal.

Perhaps, David. Perhaps she feels that her indiscretions are treated differently from others’ there, too. Perhaps she’s motivated by animus, and perhaps her account of Mesirow’s views is accurate, as well.

And that is relevant to the Ponzi scheme how?

  6. Comment by Dan Collins on 12/21 @ 1:07 pm #

Also, perhaps Greenwald was caught out manipulating a small army of sockpuppets.

If there is a Ponzi scheme, then her firing is irrelevant to that issue, her motivations notwithstanding.

Wha-Wha-What?!? A-A-Acorn has even the slightest tint of corruption..?

I am shocked, Shocked! to hear this allegation. This whistleblower must be a RAAAACIST HATER!

I mean, community organizers are always the most Honest!, Ethical!, Selfless!, Servants of the little guys! that a person could hope to meet-right? They always have their halos prominently displayed; I mean some can even walk on water…

How come we haven’t heard about this all over the news? Doesn’t it rise to the necessary hypocrisy level for them; because their sin by omission certainly does!

It burns my ass that even one penny of public funds goes to this corrupt conniving bunch of socialist vipers…

The nice thing is that what Moncrief has to say about ACORN’s organization largely agrees with the report put together by its own lawyer which was described in a NYT piede a few months ago.

There’s no rewriting, because the history hasn’t been written yet.

Rewriting history is a tough, thankless job.

Chin up, tuber. Nobody said it was going to be easy.

  19. Comment by Rob Crawford on 12/21 @ 3:42 pm #

I have no doubt she has the goods on ACORN, but she has some credibility problems. Namely, she thinks ACORN is opposed to Obama.

    That’s some industrial-grade crazy.
