exemptfromtherules.gov [Dan Collins]

Malkin posts what was turned over as the result of a reader’s FOIA request to see how it was that Team O! were able to use the .gov domain for campaign financing purposes. If you’re a civil libertarian and a constitutional lawyer whose words have been read into the record on the floor of the Senate, I don’t see how you can possibly not be a bit concerned about this.

  1. Techie says:

Sigh, I’m going to get tired of typing “That’s hope and change we can believe in”, over and over again for the next 4 years………

  2. Dan Collins says:

Just use TH&CWCBI. Easy macro, too.

  3. Brainster says:

Presumably Obama’s not going to run on the mantra of change in 2012, although stranger things have happened.

  4. parsnip says:

Obama’s site seems no different than any other politician’s .gov site:

    http://mcconnell.senate.gov/contact_form.cfm

Unless this is yet another case of It’s Okay If You’re A Republican

    or

    IOIYAR

  5. Two Dogs says:

Parsnip, I did not see the donation boxes on McConnell’s CONTACT FORM. This must be the same by way of being totally different, huh?

  6. parsnip says:

    Two Dogs,

Maybe you could show the class the “donate” box on change.gov?

  7. Darleen says:

    let’s see

mcconnell (specific name) senate (specific branch) .gov

    vs

    change (generic) .gov

parshit missed the part of the first denial that outlined the difference between recreation.gov (generic) and recreationMD.gov (state specific)

But hey … The One is above petty rules.

  8. parsnip says:

Here’s Malkin’s typically boneheaded little smear against Obama’s .gov site, Darleen:

The primary goal of the transition site seems to be to collect e-mail addresses and personal information — for future fund-raising and political organizing projects.

    Look at Mitch McConnell’s site.

Understand all we have yet another case of IOIYAR and smell the hypocrisy.

  10. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Hey, nipply: have you noticed the way that Blagojevich story is falling out of the news?

    Snicker.

  11. parsnip says:

A little early in the thread for a “Look! a kitten” attempt isn’t it SBP?

  12. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

And did you ever explain why Obama lied to the press?

    Snicker.

  13. Lt. York says:

Doesn’t someone have a screencap of Change.gov from before Nov. 4th, when they did have a “donate” button on the site.

    “Look, A kitten.”

    Project much, parsnip?

  14. parsnip says:

Doesn’t someone have a screencap of Change.gov from before Nov. 4th, when they did have a “donate” button on the site.

Change.gov wasn’t granted until after the election, Yorkie.

    The stupid, it burns.

  15. Lt. York says:

Then what change.gov website was it that was accepting donations prior to Nov 4th?

  16. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

I don’t see nipply’s comments, but then, I already know what they are.

I could write a Perl script to play these guys.

  17. Lt. York says:

Ahhhh…pardon me, checked my history, change.gov.org.

    My mistake.

  18. John Cheshire says:

    Parsnip,

I am looking for a Christmas gift for my dumb-ass Brother-in law and was wondering where you got your glass stomach?

  19. Seth Williams says:

Shorter parsnip: Republicans do it too, so it’s not wrong…except when Republicans do it.

Not all change is good, which is why I say progressivism sucks. Those folks just want change for the sake of change, no thought to consequence, no weighing of the value of the status quo…just change for change to say we changed.

  20. Lt. York says:

One of the reasons I come here is to learn.
    So I read everybody’s comments.
Not always happily, I might add.

Like everyone, sometimes I know more about a subject than most, and other times I know little.

I do worry though, because it seems so few [particularly on the left] are able to possess this basic humility about themselves.

Just look at Jones Kelly’s resignation statement..

  21. Darleen says:

I have yet to see certain commenters here ever confess less than perfect knowledge of anything.

I, and many others, have often commented on the pleasure it is to come here when Jeff posts on subjects we can learn about, or certain commenters with speficic knowledge of a field can pass along some knowledge.

LT, you might have to go elsewhere to find a troll possessing any modicum of humility or willing to admit anything short of omniscience.

  23. Lt. York says:

My initial post was about an e-mail someone had sent me,
but if you start to do a little research about change.gov/change.org, it gets interesting.

The donation link in the Obama e-mail is labeled change.gov, but it bring up an address at change.org that is now dead.

    Interesting…

  24. Ric Locke says:

    Trolls come in three varieties.

The first, and least offensive, is the “Kilroy” type. They just want their name (or screen name) and Immortal Comment displayed and preserved, like people scrawling their names on national monuments. Fools’ names like fools’ faces / Are often seen in public places.”

The second is the deliberately destructive — thor is an example. Their creed is that of any other bully or vandal: “I can destroy or deface it, therefore I own it.”

The third is people with a Mission from Glod to derail the discussion. Parsnip/alphie is the most outstanding example here. Certain subjects Must Not Be Discussed — at present, anything that might tend to dim the halo of Barack (Whose Name the Angels Praise With Mighty Hosannahs) Obama — and the entire content of their posts is designed to divert attention from them. They can often enlist the second category in aid of that effort.

Category 3 is extremely valuable once you identify them. When there is trouble in Proggland and it becomes necessary or desirable to divert attention from it, you can depend on alphie (parsnip) to show up demanding that something, anything, else be discussed. This can be a very useful weathervane if you pay attention. For instance, we know the Blagovitch (sp?) affair is more important than it originally looked because alphie and Semanticleo are so bloody-mindedly determined that it not be discussed.

There is a fourth category that I, personally, don’t think deserves the sobriquet “troll”. Examples are Kate/nishi and assclown, but the outstanding one is no longer here: Phoenician In A Time of Romans or “PIATOR”. These are monomaniacs whose chime is rung by some aspect of the discussion, often the most trivial such aspect, and who will weigh in on how that topic looks to them regardless of what anyone else is discussing. They can be indistinguishable from type II until you get to know them.

    Regards,
    Ric

  25. parsnip says:

Ric is nicely displaying the extreme right’s crackerjack logic skills that let to the Republican’s prompt capture of Osama bin Laden after 9/11.

If you’ll read the thread, Sherlock, you’ll note I’m one of the few people to stick to the topic.

  26. Ric Locke says:

I see a fairly clumsy attempt at tu quoque and an attempt to divert attention from one of the standard techniques used by phishers and other Internet scam artists, alphie. Which subject did you project on the monitor?

    Regards,
    Ric

  27. Brendan says:

Obama’s site seems no different than any other politician’s .gov site:

    http://mcconnell.senate.gov/contact_form.cfm

Which might be relevant if people were complaining about Obama’s (non-existant) obama.senate.gov site.

  28. Bob Reed says:

Although no other PE has recieved a dot Gov address in the past, times change and the internet is an ever burgeoning medium…

In that same vein, I would have no objection to this action by GSA if it weren’t for the fundraising angle

This blatant electioneering, a manefestation of the Clintonian never-ending campaign to come, semmingly aided and abetted by GSA is simply unconscionable…

I would hope that there would be one among us who would be willing to prosecute a pro-bono suit to redress this wrong…

    Any takers?

  29. buzz says:

Wait. Only republicans were looking for bin laden? How come the democrats didnt look? Why do they hate America?

  30. Ric Locke says:

Nono, buzz. Republicans didn’t look for bin Laden. If Democrats had been in charge, they would have caught him and let him make speeches in Court — fate worse than death, don’t’cha know.

    Regards,
    Ric

  31. Anonymous says:

I signed up for the change.gov email list in order to see what was going on. They keep sending me advertisements for crap, such as “an Obama winter hat” for a $25 donation. I keep emailing and asking them why they are advertising trinkets when the election is over.

An Obama Winter Hat. I suppose an Obama Diaper Carrier can’t be far behind.

  32. Anonymous says:

An Obama Diaper Carrier, I just realized, would give a new meaning to “hope and change.”

  33. Thomas Paine says:

I dont get what the big deal is…

There has to be a boat out on the horizon somewhere. ,
