Washington Post Puts Best Spin on Obama Numbers [Dan Collins; UPDATED]

Chooses not to point out erosion of favorables.

Approval of handling of transition down 3% over less than a week.

Hmmmmmm:

Forty five percent (45%) of U.S. voters say it is likely President-elect Obama or one of his top campaign aides was involved in the unfolding Blagojevich scandal in Illinois, including 23% who say it is Very Likely.

Just 11% say it is not at all likely, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken Thursday and Friday nights.

Bwahahaha:

The Obama transition office just sent out this release about its internal “review” of contacts with disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich:

“At the direction of the President-elect, a review of Transition staff contacts with Governor Blagojevich and his office has been conducted and completed and is ready for release. That review affirmed the public statements of the President-elect that he had no contact with the governor or his staff, and that the President-elect’s staff was not involved in inappropriate discussions with the governor or his staff over the selection of his successor as US Senator.

“Also at the President-elect’s direction, Gregory Graig, counsel to the Transition, has kept the US Attorney’s office informed of this fact-gathering process in order to ensure our full cooperation with the investigation.

“In the course of those discussions, the US Attorney’s office requested the public release of the Transition review be deferred until the week of December 22, in order not to impede their investigation of the governor. The Transition has agreed to this revised timetable for release,” said Obama Transition Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer.

Read it all. But remember, everyone said that if any man knew how to keep Christmas, it was Rahm Emanuel.

Starting to sound a little paedophilic: Obama team: Review shows no inappropriate contact

Hey, look what you can’t find via Google!

Biden screws pooch faster than Obama

  1. Heh:
    OBAMA SAILS OVER SCANDAL

With a whopping 51% saying he’s handled responded sufficiently. That’s sailing, huh?

  2. Pablo says:

Two-thirds of Democrats and 51 percent of independents said Obama has sufficiently outlined discussions with the governor, but 51 percent of Republicans said Obama has not done enough.

    When did he do that?

  3. alppuccino says:

Obama: I’m going to let the Washington Post polls do my splainin’ for me.

  4. Mr. Pink says:

Did they include in this article his many conflicting statements and his advisors “misspeaking”, or did they just bold the parts where the media is failing in their job of informing the public?

  5. DarthRove says:

    51%?

Close the books, it’s a MANDATE! Teh peepuls hav spoked!

  6. FreakyBoy says:

Best Office of the President-elect ever!

  7. parsnip says:

Seems like only last month the extreme right was telling us to ignore poll numbers.

    What gives?

  8. Mr. Pink says:

Do you have a reason for coming here other than not responding to people and flinging sh!t on the walls?

  9. thor says:

If he has high poll numbers, that means he’s right about everything.

  10. Dan Collins says:

Seems like just today you were telling us poll numbers matter. What gives?

  11. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Seems like only last month the extreme right was telling us to ignore poll numbers.

Seems like you still haven’t explained why Obama lied to the press.

  12. Mr. Pink says:

I think O! could straight up admit he lied and these people would still be on here saying he didn’t. Saviors don’t lie and even if they do it is Bush’s fault somehow.

  13. parsnip says:

Looks like a majority of Americans say Obama’s done enough ‘splaining, SBP.

But do continue to bark for us puppy.

    It’s sooo cute.

  14. DarthRove says:

Obama lied because he expected the same drooling sycophancy he’s had all through the campaign. He truly expects people to sigh and say, “but of course!” when he speaks.

Because PE’s are beyond reproach, dontcha know?

  15. Mr. Pink says:

Yes I agree parsnip. You are totally right.

  16. parsnip says:

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little blogs, Dan?

  17. Mr. Pink says:

I can’t believe everyone here keeps harping on this issue. This is just an example of how the Republican slime machine tried to tar Obama during the election. The American public has rejected you, you need to stop hating on O! and come join the rest of this country in uniting behind Obama and helping to make his presidency a success. No more scare tactics or politics of personal destruction. It is obvious that O! has been completely upfront about this situation. He would never lie and is beyond reproach. His advisor Axlerod misspoke once during an interview, but if you listen to the entire interview it was obvious he qualified it beforehand so he really didn’t misspeak. Can’t you guys move on the rest of America has according to this poll.

Is that what you want to see parsnip? Go to Kos I am sure you will see that. GTFOOH

  18. Mr. Pink says:

Hey look he is pushing back releasing the information until right around Christmas. Yes he is being totally upfront and look he has now changed his stance again to “no inappropriate discussions”. There is no way in hell that he did anything wrong here. Nope no way.

“In a statement, Transition Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said the review confirms that Obama had no contact with Blagojevich or his staff and that Obama’s staff had no “inappropriate discussions” with the governor or his aides on selecting Obama’s successor in the U.S. Senate.”

  19. parsnip says:

    Quite the opposite, Mr. Pink.

I’d like the Republicans to drag themselves out of the gutter and start cobbling together a real platform that has a chance at attracting a majority of Americans.

    But, that’s hard work.

Could be a dull 8+ years if all you guys have is half-assed, reheated Karl Rove’s Guide to Losing National Elections attacks.

  20. Mr. Pink says:

What was Obama’s platform if you could enlighten me that would be great? Please try to do so without using the words hope or change though cause my right wing brain can not translate those two words into an actual platform of “ideas”.

  21. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Looks like a majority of Americans

Looks like you’re still not going to answer the question.

    Why did Obama lie, nipple-boi?

  22. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

BTW, nipply, how’s that falling off the front page thing working out for you?

  23. Mr. Pink says:

I love how his statement changed from no contacts to no inappropriate contacts. This is a distraction though and just an evil right wing smear so I will ignore the change. I love Obama!!!!111!!!!!

“WASHINGTON – An internal review shows aides to President-elect Barack Obama had no “inappropriate discussions” with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich or his staff concerning the search for a Senate replacement from Illinois, a spokesman for the presidential transition office said Monday.
That’s Christmas week, when few people will be paying attention and when Obama plans to be celebrating the holiday in Hawaii.”

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081215/ap_on_el_pr/illinois_governor_obama

  24. Mr. Pink says:

I guess that is the change part of the platform huh parsnip?

  25. dre says:

    Obamarat

It is a lie because now we know Obama’s Chief of Staff provided Blagojevich Obama’s list of candidates he thought should fill his seat. The news broke last night:

Another source said that contact between the Obama camp and the governor’s administration regarding the Senate seat began the Saturday before the Nov. 4 election, when Emanuel made a call to the cell phone of Harris. The conversation took place around the same time press reports surfaced about Emanuel being approached about taking the high-level White House post should Obama win.

Emanuel delivered a list of candidates who would be “acceptable” to Obama, the source said. On the list were Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, Illinois Veterans Affairs director Tammy Duckworth, state Comptroller Dan Hynes and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Chicago, the source said. All are Democrats.

    …

Sometime after the election, Emanuel called Harris back to add the name of Democratic Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan to the approved list, the source said.

Emphasis mine. Does Senator Obama really think the American people care about the parsing of ‘talked’ verses ’sent my list of candidates through my Chief of Staff’? Come on! Who gave the list to Emmanuel? Obama of course! It was Obama’s list of candidates Blagojevich was working with. OMG – are these people morons?

Barack Obama, the next President of the United States, just wagged his finger into the camera and said “I had no conversations with that Governor, Blagojevich, on the candidates for my senate seat’. Of course sending the list of candidates through Emmanual doesn’t somehow count as ‘conversation’.

    ?

  26. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Madigan pere has given Blago six days to resign.

  27. Mr. Pink says:

Why should he resign? If a Democrat can stay in office after Federal agents find 90 grand in cash in his freezer then WTF.

  28. Mr. Pink says:

Hey parsnip head over to Kos to get some talkin points quick O! has just made you look like an idiot.

    December 9
“Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is currently under investigation for allegedly trying to sell the open Senate seat vacated by President-elect Obama. Today, Obama said that he had “no contact” with Blagojevich and was not aware of what was transpiring:
OBAMA: I had no contact with the governor or his office so I was not aware of what was happening. As I said it is a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to comment.”
    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/12/09/obama-no-contact-blagojevich/

    Today
“Slideshow: Illinois Gov. I would classify that as change only a blind koolaid swilling partisan can believe in.

  29. Sdferr says:

I wonder how Dan Hynes will feel about being remembered as the token xy?

  30. parsnip says:

    Mr. Pink,

It’s only natural that Republicans are trying to reduce their embarrassment by clinging to any story they think might make Obama look bad, but like any form of self-abuse, it should be done in private.

    The more you know!

  31. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

It’s only natural that Republicans are trying to reduce their embarrassment

Interesting theory, but we’re not talking about “Republicans”. We’re talking about Obama.

Now, why did he lie to the press?

  32. Mr. Pink says:

Parsnip if you want my honest opinion I do not think this will harm him at all politically. The press is intent on burying this all he has to do is give them time to do their “job”. In that we agree. Doesn’t change the fact his statements keep evolving week by week.

I hope you realize by not even acknowledging the FACT O! and his advisors statements have done a complete 180 makes you look like a totally blind fool.

  33. TheGeezer says:

The beauty of this is that it is just the beginning. This scandal will die down, but it is hard to avoid tripping on another body with so many just laying around.

  34. Mr. Pink says:

After witnessing this I have a hard time thinking that if Bush was a Democrat his poll numbers would be hovering around 50%.

  35. Roland THTG says:

I hope you realize by not even acknowledging the FACT O! and his advisors statements have done a complete 180 makes you look like exposes you as a totally blind fool.

    FTFY

  36. Mr. Pink says:

    Thanks.

  37. parsnip says:

    Tell you what,

Send me $100 and some proof Obama tried to bribe Blago and I’ll pretend to be embarrassed by Obama for you, Mr. Pink.

    It’ll cost you $200, SBP.

  38. Mr. Pink says:

“Send me $100 and some proof Obama tried to bribe Blago and I’ll pretend to be embarrassed by Obama for you, Mr. Pink.”

Way to move the goalposts. You don’t mind he lied to you obviously so carry on in your teenage love affair. First loves always end badly just to let you know.

  39. Techie says:

root-alphie, I don’t think anyone here has ever said that Obama tried to bribe/be bribed by Blago. All along, it’s basically been that A) they were probably at least aware of it, and B) that their response has been so half-assed and ill-thought out as to be comical.

But I’m sure that strawman in your mind is a great conversationalist.

  40. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    Tell you what

Tell you what, nipply: you explain why Obama lied and we’ll leave you alone.

  41. Mr. Pink says:

Even a braindead George Bush follower should be able to admit he lied or was unaware of what his own staff was doing in this instance if this was Bush. You seem unable to admit it or even entertain the idea. There is nothing anyone here could say to you that would get you to even think for a second since you view everyone as a cartoonish bible thumping right-wing maniac and dismiss everything you read that you disagree with.

  42. Roland THTG says:

Hay carrot, just send me the $100. and you can skip being embarrassed. Think of it as an O! Indulgence.

Its like a Carbon Credit, only different.

  43. Techie says:

And yet he still comes to this blog. It’s almost masochistic.

  44. BJTexs says:

Alphie/Monkeyboy/Parsnip: “The obtuse is strong in this one, my lord!”

  45. Roland THTG says:

That boy’s plumb eat-up with the dumbass!

  46. ThomasD says:

    It’s almost disturbingly masochistic.

    FTFY

  47. Salt Lick says:

Other polls show 89% of Americans believe that if Sarah Palin had discovered the corruption which Obama tacitly condoned, she would have ripped off Blago’s balls and stuffed them in his mouth.

  48. parsnip says:

    SBP,

I don’t want you to leave me alone.

I want you to keep trying your inane question over and over again.

    It makes me chuckle.

Even a braindead George Bush follower should be able to admit he lied

    Perfect Mr. Pink, just perfect.

  49. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    It makes me chuckle.

That would be because you’re freakin’ psychotic, nipply.

But hey, if it works for you.

Seen Google News lately, by the way?

    How about your “local paper”?

Going to tell us why Obama lied?

  50. Mr. Pink says:

Do you actually enjoy debating the voices in your head?

  51. Mikey NTH says:

    #33 Geezer:

And that is just why so many in Illinois government want the governor to resign now. If he makes them impeach him, who knows exactly what he will say about who did what and when? His resignation is a very valuable commodity and he isn’t going to let it go cheaply – he already knows the value of a government office.

I wonder how many people are trying to get the US attorney to offer the governor a sweet deal for his pleading guilty and a resignation?

  52. thor says:

I guess the sPies neurosis pony show continues, yippie-kiyah!

  53. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

I guess the sPies neurosis pony show continues, yippie-kiyah!

Yo, thor: going to explain why Obama lied?

    Right here. 3:13 in.

  54. Mikey NTH says:

    #41 Mr. Pink:

If Mr.Obama had no idea that this was going on it means that he is remarkably incurious about what his staff is doing and who may be appointed to his senate seat. And that sort of incuriousity does not jibe well with his description of being keenly intelligent and possessing good judgment. It does jibe well with him being a clueless puppet, though.

So either he knew full well and did not report this – which is not illegal, but kind of politcally slimy; or he had no clue and does only what his staff wants him to do and knows only what they want him to know. BTW – Mr. Obama being willfully obtuse isn’t very reassuring either.

  55. parsnip says:

Looks like SBP is starting to crack.

    So predictable.

    So sad.

    Sad puppy.

  56. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Looks like SBP is starting to crack.

    “Crack up”, you mean?

Yeah, I’ve been laughing my ass off at you for nearly a day now.

Still not seeing an answer, nipply.

  57. nikkolai says:

If one were to add thor’s and parsnip’s IQ’s, one would still be shy of triple digits. Dem boys be dumb…

  58. Mr. Pink says:

    Nikkolai collects wet dog turds.

  59. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Still not seeing an answer, nipply.

Bye, nipply. Experiment’s over for now.

    Hint: this = you.

  60. B Moe says:

Starting to sound a little paedophilic….

If that child raping piece of shit Greg Craig is involved it is a lot paedophilic.

  61. Dean says:

Re: the Hillary photo. Apparently, Google’s objectivity isn’t quite so as they have admitted that its staff picks and chooses what appears in search engine results.

  62. B Moe says:

First two comments in the Biden/dog link:

“If they had a heart, which they don’t, they’d set a good example and take a media circus down to a shelter and pick up a nice dog from there.

Instead, now little boys and little girls are going to ask their mommies and daddies for pure breds just like 0bama and Biden and 100s of 1000s of dogs will be euthanized in shelters.”

Concerned actually cares about animal welfare?

    Yeah right.

Just another hit and run from Ashley Todd’s biggest fan.

i never heard anyone saying bush should have a dog from the pound.
    why the double standard?

bush has trashed this country, had his pure bred dogs in the white house,
    biting people.etc.
and no complaints from you lot.
but now you are so disappointed in obama and biden,
you folks need to check yourselves,
    why the double standard?

It’s over. Last one to leave, turn out the lights.

  63. Techie says:

Yeah, too bad Obama’s now got the blood of thousands of mutts on his hands………

[Do these people ever take a step back and go “Damn, where did I start to go wrong”? Seriously, the dog? Did they seriously buy the Lightworker shitck?]

  64. Log Cabin says:

Already his favorability ratings are eroding. By about April he should be completely unable to push any conroversial legislation through congress. By this time in 2009, swing district democrats will be running away from him, quietly asking him not to come campaign for them.

It’s the Clinton days all over again. Except that the Clintons were waaaaaay beter liars.

  65. Rusty says:

Well, parsnip, is this the transparency you voted for? The hope and change?
You’ve pilloried GWB for much less than what is happening now with the Obama team.
    Where IS Rahm Emmanuel anyway?
