“Democratic backer sends message by showing McCain, in KKK robe, chasing Obama”

But remember: it can’t be racist, because Whites Hold All the Power.

Incidentally, I never gave much credence to that power dynamic qualification for what comes to count as “racism” until — still feeling under the weather this morning — I took a flier and dialed up Pam Grier, demanding that she come over immediately and draw my bath. And I’ll be damned if she wasn’t at my house within the hour, dressed in a mini Boho tunic and carrying a great big sponge that it turns out was frisky as a cat’s tongue…Mmmmreow!:

Ron Havens has a reputation for provocative Halloween displays that reflect his strong political views.

But even Havens was pretty sure his latest effort was over the top. That didn’t stop him from setting it up in plain sight anyway.

Havens, who lives on Schuyler County Route 15 (Ridge Road) just south of Odessa, this week set up a Halloween display featuring mannequins that look like Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Republican rival John McCain.

But the Obama figure looks like he is running, and the McCain likeness is dressed in the hooded robe of the Ku Klux Klan and is carrying a baseball bat.

Havens is quick to point out he is a liberal and a big supporter of Obama, and that the scene is meant to provoke thought about the way he believes Obama has been unfairly treated by the McCain campaign.

“I figured it would be equally offensive to everyone. It’s just for shock value,” Havens said. “McCain has been rabble-rousing, calling Obama a terrorist and a Muslim. The McCain campaign has gotten so ugly. That’s what the message is. I can see how people could take this the wrong way. I’m not advocating anything. It’s sarcasm.”

Ah. Nuance.

My own Halloween display — featuring hundreds of singing animatronic Obama cultists stoning a head of cabbage labeled “Trig” as a bling-ed out Obama pins Sarah Palin against her doublewide, pimp-slapping her with a beaver pelt and demanding “his money” while Bristol Palin, pregnant, unsure, touches herself approvingly in her naughty bits — could not be reached for comment.

“McCain has been rabble-rousing, calling Obama a terrorist and a Muslim.

McCain has not called Obama either or terrorist or a Muslim, but the media continue to imply that he has, using vague euphemisms like “nastiness” and “divisiveness” to describe garden-variety political attacks.

  2. dittybopper says:

Robert Byrd had no comment but seemed slightly bemused.

  3. Bob Reed says:

    Jeff,
Why, no correct thinking person would have any problem with Ron’s display. After all, it’s not like it’s hateful or over the top in any way. In fact, I understand that after the election the display is being moved to the Smithsonian to become part of the official state narrative of O!s historic campaign…

And, I hope that your animatronic Obamites had the correct racial percentages to reflect, you know, our diversity

Because, anything less might be a problem for Michelle’s children…

Is it any surprise that this man’s name rhymes with craven..?

  4. Dread Cthulhu says:

Bob Reed: “And, I hope that your animatronic Obamites had the correct racial percentages to reflect, you know, our diversity…”

Uh-huh… right after we politically correct the NBA.

  5. Old Texas Turkey says:

Speaking of pimp slaps, the one laid on Rachel Maddow last night by David Frum was truly a beauty. Poor snark girl had a hand sized welt on her face for the remaining 5 minutes of the interview she barely muddled through. I thought she was about to cry.

    Classic.

Go look it up on Utube. I would post a link, but the site is nobama’d here at work.

  6. Bob Reed says:

Senator Byrd mentioned that he was a bit offended by the display in his neigboring state.

He said that some the details on the klan garb were not factually correct…

And, according to the former kleagle, they only used Louisville Slugger bats…

  7. mojo says:

    Beaver pelt?

Is this a historical diorama or something?

  8. CelticDragon says:

It would have been Moose pelt, but those things are SOOOO hard to find at Target.

Wal-Mart, OTOH, has a whole wall of them…

  9. Joel says:

Speaking of Senator Kleagle, how sincere was his endorsement of the One? That had to have been a fascinating eight seconds….

  10. JD says:

    Racists.

  11. alppuccino says:

    OTT,

Saw the Maddow/Frum Kerfuffle. Had no idea that Rachel was a female Chandler Bing. Frum’s facial expressions were the frosting on the cake as Maddow was throwing her strained carrots.

  12. trigger says:

i dont understand why people get mad. nobama is a marxist socialist, rubs shoulders with terrorist, and shady characters. dont get mad at people for not drinking the koolaid.

  13. psycho... says:

    Amazing coincidence.

My Halloween display is almost identical to this dude’s, except less inscrutably nuanced, sarcasm-wise.

My bat-wielding dummy in a KKK hood chasing after Obama is also Obama.

    I’m not advocating anything.

  14. ushie says:

Sooo…I guess Mr Havens is registered to vote, huh?

    How many times?

Ah yes, “to provoke thought.” That’s the standard dumb-ass excuse offered by moonbats whenever they get caught. Do a LexisNexis search of these types of stunts, especially in academic settings: I’ll throw a sawbuck on the barrel-head that says nearly all of the idiots involved in such incidents tried to explain away their stupid and hateful actions as merely “provoking thought.”

See how it works? As long as one is merely “provoking thought,” anything and everything is possible and permitted.

Funny thing, for someone who claims to be “provoking thought” Havens clearly hasn’t done any advance thinking about the potential effects of his actions on himself or others.

Hmph. I saw “Odessa”, opened the link… and eventually had to look up the weather report. Why the f* don’t newspaper web sites ever say where the Hell they are? Stardemocratreportertribuneblahblahblah…

Oh, it’s New York. I’m quite sure there are O!bamites in Odessa, TX, but not that sort.

    Regards,
    Ric

  17. TmjUtah says:

    Ric,

I grew up twenty miles from Odessa.

I’ll go out on a limb here and state that nobody is going to put up a mannequin in Klan garb on their property and then stand an interview for it ANYWHERE in Ector county, no matter what color their skin happens to be.

Austin… that would be a different animal all the way around.

  18. Mikey NTH says:

Why the outrage? A marquee supporting McCain/Palin is infinitely worse. The one is merely ‘thought-provoking’ while the other is a distinct threat.

  19. Thomas Jackson says:

Its sad to see those whop have drunk deeply of the Obama Kool Aid who claim McCain is racist when we are bombarded with the daily reminders of Liberal Facism tinged with its usual racism.

I am surprised this was in Texas. Get a picture of this guy. He must be inbred.

  20. LionDude says:

Don’t go to this lunk head’s house for candy, kids. Chances are he’s waitng for Barry ObamAcorn’s administration to deliver a truckload of free Twix to HIM instead.

  21. happyfeet says:

Why the f* don’t newspaper web sites ever say where the Hell they are?

I don’t get that either. I think it might be cause they’re stupid.

  22. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

I don’t get that either. I think it might be cause they’re stupid.

Also arrogant. “What, you haven’t heard of The Lower East Bickston Weekly Shopper?”

    Mostly stupid, though.

Usually they’re just leaving money lying on the table, too.

  23. RR Ryan says:

Oh for heaven’s sake. When she trades sex for coke with her real brother, get back to me. Otherwise, you just described half of LA during that period. Maybe %75.

  24. RR Ryan says:

And of course, once again I’ve demonstrated that I shouldn’t be allowed near a keyboard. That comment applies to Marcia, not this post. Although, I haven’t read this one so who knows?

  25. Ric Locke says:

SBP, “The Lower East Bickston Weekly Shopper” isn’t the problem. I can Google “Lower East Bickston” and probably find it.

    It’s the generic ones:
    “Post Telegraph”
    “Times Examiner”
    “Democrat Herald”
–and the like. Put the damned city name in there.

Of course, leaving money lying on the table is what they do, nowadays. Why should anybody pay for Obama campaign literature?

    Regards,
    Ric

  26. Armed Christian says:

Do you suppose Mr Havens will be able to get his KKK outfit cleaned before the next meeting,..
Or does he have a spare in the closet,…
    Just sayin,..

  27. MC says:

Senator Robert Byrd was not available for comment, but Senator Robert Byrd’s (D-WV) Grand Kleagle hood opined:

I cannot baya to even look upon that varitabal disaplay…

  28. TOM says:

The following letter was posted at the Elmira Star Gazette on August 15th 2009.

Kind of funny, considering “Cash for clunkers” is the baby of the Democrat congress and the Obama adminstration.

‘This cash for clunkers program is just another taxpayer-funded giveaway for the car companies and the upper middle class. I don’t like the term “clunker” anyway. Those vehicles are what we drive, always have and always will.

Have you seen these so-called clunkers that are being traded in? Most of us would love to have them. Most of the working class couldn’t afford to trade in their clunkers for a new vehicle even if they were given a 50 percent discount. Most of the people taking advantage of this program are those with money, really good credit and were probably planning on trading in for a new car anyway. How about a stimulus program for the actual working class?
To add insult to injury is the fact that the old vehicles are crushed. Now the existing used cars will be more expensive, and parts could become harder to find. Thanks for another program that helps those that need it the least and hurts those that need it the most.
