The Center for Rural Strategies has John McCain leading Barack Obama 50%-41% a poll released today of likely voters in rural parts of 13 swing states: New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada.
The (sorta) good news for Obama is that George W. Bush’s won rural voters nationally by 11 points in 2000 and 19 points in 2004. A June 2007 CRS poll gave a narrow plurality to a generic Democratic candidate for President: 46%-43%. Unfortunately, CRS does not appear to have comparable numbers for the “battleground” states for 2000, 2004 or 2007. Moreover, the small sample — 682 respondents — results in a margin of error of 3.75%, which makes it doubly difficult to compare to prior margins.
The bad news for Obama is that Hillary Clinton runs even with McCain in this poll, 46%-46%. That suggests these rural voters in battleground states do “swing” in a way that Appalachian voters have not in the past two elections. Moreover, Obama beats McCain by 8% on the economy with these battleground rural voters, but loses by 9% on values.  At the moment, it seems that the cling trumps the swing.
Democratic pollster Paul Maslin makes a pretty decent case for a squeaker in the general election, so Obama cannot relish the prospect of losing even a few percent of the rural votes in the battleground states.
At the moment…
And those are the crucial three words for any poll.
you aint got a thing, if you aint got that cling
At the present I see Senator McCain winning comfortably, but that will likely change over the coming months.
The bad news is, Jim Webb was on the cover of Parade magazine today, aimed dead center at the heart of cling. In other news, I read Parade magazine.
– The Dems have decided that jumping the shark on the “direct talks” kerfluffle wasn’t stupid enough. Today they’re out in force trying to shore up Obama’s position, and somehow deflect his original gaffe’. they keep saying they’re outraged by Bush’s comments at the Kenessa, but its painfully obvious they are having red faced guilt feelings over getting their hand caught in mommies purse, and they’re in pure panic mode, bouncing back and forth between MeEain and Bush like a gaggle of ping pong balls. The more they yammer on and on and insist on saying the Prez was targeting Obama when he spoke, the dumber they look.
– The Breck girl was on CNN this morning, answering every question with off the mark comments, mainly damn that Bush type statements. Wolfson kept dragging him back on subject as he wandered over and over. Even he finally settled on McCain, after actually saying out loud that Bush isn’t running this time.
– Well Duuuuuuuuhhhh,
– I watched for awhile until it became obvious they are simply not going to answer any of the questions, just keep ranting the “Bush/McCain” bad screeds.
– Another thing that has come out from all of this is the obvious fact that none of these Dem idiots know the first thing about the holy grail, dipkomacy.
– First of all the US ALWAYS has diplomatic channels with foriegn leaders, even those that are considered total maniacs. Its just not done by the Prez, or other high level officials.
– What about that concept are the Dimbulbs unable to understand.
– Obana and his prawns can fume and fulminate endlessly. They’ll never be able to erase that video tape.
– If I was McCain, I’d show it at the opening of every debate.

But that’s that right-wing closet stuff. An affront to the dignity of the relationship. Why can’t they talk to Hamas in front of everyone, loud and proud. BECAUSE OF THE DIGNITY AND RESPECT!
Silky is going to be Baracky’s Attorney General.
There are going to be plenty of bunnies and unicorns on the White House lawn.
Except for Jim Web. He will fold his arms in authority position, and have a square jaw, and do a lot of leading.
I’m just hoping that the lib’s revamp of our public education system over the last 40 years hasn’t pushed the ignorance level high enough for a dilletante Marxist to be elected as president.
The results of the last two elections are not encouraging. When an obvious elitist, vapid moron can get within 3 million votes of being elcted, it is time to start worrying.
It is going to be tough for McCain to win with almost the whole drive by clique being a de facto arm of Obama’s campaign.
Sarah+ – Did Webb have an upside down prepubescent boy’s crank in his mouth?
McCain wins in a landslide.
“That’s right – fight amongst yourselves.” – Sen. John McCain.
ahem,
Don’t bet a large sum of money on that.
Bet? Me? I never bet. Merely because I do not like tasting crow; therefore predictions are always outside of my pay grade.
Because a cat may look at a king I always laugh at pretentions punctured.
