He’s so cool. McCain is gonna have some tough shoes to fill I think.

Well done, Mr. President.

Wow. I’ll confess that it’s been years since I watched the President speak. His stilted delivery and obvious discomfort at a podium is just too painful for me to watch, and has been since the 2000 campaign, really. I usually check transcripts the following day.
But that little rant? Man, if he could do that every day, the political environment would look so much different.

I was just thinking, W is the anti-Obama. He absolutley sucks trying to read a prepared speech, but is excellent when he gets fired up and speaks from the heart.

Too bad he wasn’t doing this sooner. Perhaps he felt that he had to be in control of his emotions all the time. Now, perhaps, since he has less than a year in office to go, he doesn’t care as much about that.

I wonder if he’s been making a conscious effort to defer to his councilors in general. Y’know, predicated on the notion that he’s really not an orator and lacking a mind for policy. So, out of a genuine desire to be the best POTUS he could be, he thought perhaps he should surreptitiously abdicate on those issues as it were.
I just watched that video with a friend of mine who is not particularly conservative nor particularly fond of Bush. He was impressed. Without thinking about it, I was moved to suggest to my friend that greatness, for a president, requires not fabulous intellect so much as it requires consistently speaking from the heart. I’m not nearly so sure about the veracity of that comment now that I read it over, but it sure seemed profound then.

I wish he’d do it every day too…

Where has this guy been? He should have been out there saying this, in this way for years. Or has he been, and no one deigned to tell us?

mtt,
Sincerity and earnestness do not make one a great President, but the first makes for a better man.
