a post that explores what life might be like if oatmeal could speak for the Obama campaign, 1

oatmeal: “What’s all the fuss about? I mean, I’ll admit it. If I happened to see the Cream of Wheat guy heading down the sidewalk toward me on, say, a Wednesday at midnight, I’d quickly cross to the other side of the street without giving it a second thought.

“And really, what Quaker who’s being honest with himself wouldn’t?”

” — Which, that’s why this country needs Obama as President. To take the whip to our prejudice and hate, then, as a gesture of his magnanimity, apply the soothing balm of healing to our tattered pink buttockses.

“BECAUSE OF THE WRETCHED TYPICALITY OF OUR WHITEYNESS!”

  1. BJTexs says:

OOO! OOO! Me first! I want some! I want the first big piece of ….

    […]

    Oatmeal? um … never mind.

  2. Karl says:

So much better said than this. And said by oatmeal. So I don’t want to read any more of this passive-aggressive, “the site is so much better without me” crap.

  3. Dan Collins says:

How do you feel about Chocolate Maypo.

  4. MC says:

I just realized that that’s so Cream of Wheat reflects my deep seated racism. Damn, where’s Robert Byrd and his hood when you need them?

  5. McGehee says:

I’d cross the street to avoid Cream of Wheat, but that’s because I just like oatmeal better. Don’t I have a right to associate with the hot breakfast food of my choice?

It’s not as if I put a sign in my window saying “Oatmeal Only”…

  6. Karl says:

Of course, the Quaker can lay it off as pre-emptive pacifism.

  7. BJTexs says:

MY TYPICALITY IS NOT WRETCHED! I AM JOYFULLY AVERAGE! BLISSFULLY ORDINARY! uh … uh … HOPEYFULLY NONDESCRIPT!!!

  8. MC says:

    Obama fills cabinet with Quakers.

Film at…erm, turns out it was his kitchen cabinet… never mind.

  9. Victor. says:

What do you say to the people that are sympathetic to the criticisms of US Foreign Policy, even to the point that they will find some level of justification for racial grievances?

Is there a ‘walk-through’ I could read-up on to counter some of that?

  10. psycho... says:

    “And honestly, what Quaker wouldn’t?”

I thought this was this oatmeal talking, not the box.

oatmeal: That guy looks like he’s about to make breakfast. I’m out.

magically appearing Obama-head: Typical white grain.

  11. Jeff G. says:

It’s outmeal anti-essentialism, psycho. If your packaging says Quaker, that’s what you are. Perception is reality.

Just ask Obama. Or Obama Mama.

  12. Jeff G. says:

Yes, Karl. But I dare Raw Story or the Corner to link this.

And when I go the other way, I think the big words and long sentences get all confusey.

  13. keninnorcal says:

“To take the whip to our prejudice and hate”

Wait, it’s only everybody else’s prejudice and hate that needs whipping. Or so I’ve been told.

  14. Karl says:

    Jeff G,

I generally agree. Brevity is the soul of wit. And oatmeal.

  15. MC says:

    How’s that for brevity?

  16. The Ouroboros says:

I cross the street for no man…! Black or White…! Ok, maybe I’d cross the street if I saw that Planters Peanuts guy with the monicle, the cane and the patent leather dress shoes walking up on me or something.. or maybe I’d just kick my dealers ass for selling me the crappy acid..

  17. TaiChiWawa says:

    Obama’s always talking about “oatacity.”

  18. The Ouroboros says:

Brevity! Brevity?! We dont need no stinkin’ Brevity

  19. Carin says:

I dunno … I think the Cream of Wheat guy has that “Magic Negro” look to him, so I wouldn’t cross the street. He’d probably have some morality lesson to teach me.

  20. JD says:

Racists. Plus, everyone knows that Cream of Brazilian Wheat is soooooo gleenwaldian.

  21. OK what if you cross the street to avoid Cream of Wheat, but spend all Sunday morning rolling around naked with Aunt Jemima?

  22. Merovign says:

Want some Brown Sugar with that oatmeal?

Or is that too changey for you bunch of racist, foodist fingerlickers?

(Is that even an insult? I’m not sure anymore…)

  23. Enoch_Root says:

look, you can associate with Oatmeal or Cream of Wheat as your preference prefers. what you can’t do if you’re Typical Quaker Guy (TQG) is to found an organization that precludes Cream of Wheat from attending your meetings… so, for example: you could not start a group called “The Congressional Quaker Oats Caucus”… because it would be exclusionary! But, Cream of Wheat Guy, who is not typical at all, could run an organization which excludes Quaker Guy. Because of the stuff when Quaker Oats Corp’s antecedents (who are dead er whatever) did to Cream of Wheat’s forbearers (also dead). Point is, there is no typical Cream-of-Wheater… so, one cannot exclude them… All are unique and special. Whereas all Quaker Oats Guys are typical, so they may be excluded… because of the things and such. So, don’t hate… ALIENATE!

  24. Rick Ballard says:

I’m sick of this binary choice crap. What about huevos rancheros every day (except Saturday, when it’s menudo)? Bah. That Quaker dude and Creamy probably don’t even know what huevos are. Or have any either.

  25. TomH says:

Heuvos are so opressed. My wife even hide them from the kids last Sunday.

  26. Enoch_Root says:

TomH – what is she ashamed of them? Or, does she fret being seen with them?

Rick – OMG! you’ve cracked the Binary code! Obama is… is…. is….. the… third….. option! It is soooo clear to me know!

Take me to the Promised Land, Barack!

  27. B Moe says:

    Heuvos are so opressed.

Until they are broken and beaten, you just can’t trust them. Sad, but true.

  28. Enoch_Root says:

B Moe – too true. Ask Carville.

Huevos’ll go “Judas” on yer ass quicker than you can say deny and attack!

  29. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

OK what if you cross the street to avoid Cream of Wheat, but spend all Sunday morning rolling around naked with Aunt Jemima?

Be careful. Uncle Ben once pulled a shank on a guy for doing that.

  30. Rick Ballard says:

“Take me to the Promised Land, Barack!”

Barack? What the hell are you smoking. The Huevos, Grits and Chitlin’s alliance wants nothing to do with Raisin Bran. It’s a third way, true enough, but not that way. You won’t be hearing about it on any grapevine. Or from that guy in the funny hat or Mr. White Bread creamy wheat either.

    HGC is the real thing.

  31. Doug says:

I name Jeff G. as Fruit Loop of the year. You go Wheaties Man.

  32. baldilocks says:

OK what if you cross the street to avoid Cream of Wheat, but spend all Sunday morning rolling around naked with Aunt Jemima?

    Nobody keeps secrets anymore!

  33. rjvtx says:

” — Which, that’s why this country needs Obama as President. To take the whip to our prejudice and hate, then, as a gesture of his magnanimity, apply the soothing balm of healing to our tattered pink buttockses.”

Conflict of interest there oatmeal, I’m afraid. Oatmeal being marketed as a soothing balm and all…and don’t tell me you never heard of Aveeno…

  34. Flaz says:

“THE WRETCHED TYPICALITY OF OUR WHITEYNESS!”

    Oh shit dude!

    That is fckuing hillarious!!

  35. happyfeet says:

I think really you’re a lot misreading Breakfast Liberation Theology here. Pan-breakfast solidarity places the Quaker guy and his Cream of Wheat friend very much on the same side of the street, walking hand in hand really to spread the social gospel of all breakfast. This is why the chickens are coming home to roost. Oh and also AIDS is whitey’s fault. But that’s part of the pre-breakfast liturgy really.

  36. LiveFromFortLivingRoom says:

Methinks there are alot of people that are relishing the shoe being on the foot in the race business. I am placing bets that the Duke Lacross players are laughing their asses off at all this shit.

  37. Obstreperous Infidel says:

“OK what if you cross the street to avoid Cream of Wheat, but spend all Sunday morning rolling around naked with Aunt Jemima?”

True story…I banged Mrs. Buttersworth. Banged her good. That bitch was hot…and oh so sweet!

  38. Rob Crawford says:

Yeah, but OI, she sure does like to stick around afterwards.

  39. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Yeah, Rob, it took a lot of hot water and soap to get her the fuck out. But in the end it was “worth” it.

  40. ThomasD says:

Somewhere there is a current or future family court judge who has absolutely no fucking clue what’s coming down the pike.

  43. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – The good rev Wrights sceduled series of speeches at the tenth anniversary of a Florida Black church was cancelled today.

    – Apparently a lot of “new” faces that showed up for the speeches were dissappointed. Of course the press just “happened” to be there.

    – On another front in the Dems primary death match, Hillery cut another group of the left loose today at a press conference where she cited a speech she gave at Rutgers, where she calls for people on her side of the iasle to “Stop using freedom of speech as a way to demeen fellow Americans”, and also said, in response to a question concerning Re, Wright, “I can only say for Meself that I would not attend a church whose pastor sapoke such racists comments”.

    – Reporters tried to pres her on the issue, and she refused to say anymore, but repeated the same thing several times, saying that any other questions needed to be directed at Obama himself.

    – The blood letting between the two camps in the donkey party continues apace.

  44. Quakers, yeah right! Bring Richard Nixon’s mother into this!

  45. “To take the whip to our prejudice and hate”

Wait, it’s only everybody else’s prejudice and hate that needs whipping. Or so I’ve been told.

Oh dear god, would you? In thigh-highs? And a matching bustier? My prejudice and hate have been verrry naughty!

  46. Pablo says:

How do you feel about Chocolate Maypo.

    Poseur.

  47. McGehee says:

Seriously, I don’t think there’s an oatmeal or a Cream of Wheat on this year’s election menu. It’s nothing but waffles.

  48. SteveG says:

I thought oatmeal was already speaking for Obama. “Big ol’ mouthful of mush”

  49. happyfeet says:

Ok. So can someone splain why Blacks are voting en masse for the socialist medicine party?

  50. well, you know it’s different when the government is doing stuff for you. ???

  51. Darleen says:

    argh happy

that idiocy has me boiling mad … We have to excuse Wright’s insistence that AIDS was invented by the US government because Wright felt that it was true. How dare YOU WHITIES “not get it”.

fuck that asswipe (and I noticed St Amanda pinged it right before I commented..though I think my comment may not survive)

    YEAARRRRRGH!

  52. happyfeet says:

excellent comment Darleen… Either things are facts or they are not. We’re gonna have to redo the whole Enlightenment thinger at this rate.

  53. Darleen says:

    happyfeet

That “it’s a black thing you wouldn’t understand and don’t even try, honky, just stfu” is just a variation on the whole “niggardly” fiasco.

  54. happyfeet says:

And Ashley said that when she was nine years old, her mother got cancer. And because she had to miss days of work, she was let go and lost her health care. They had to file for bankruptcy, and that’s when Ashley decided that she had to do something to help her mom.

    […]

Now Ashley might have made a different choice. Perhaps somebody told her along the way that the source of her mother’s problems were blacks who were on welfare and too lazy to work, or Hispanics who were coming into the country illegally. But she didn’t. She sought out allies in her fight against injustice.

Thing is, I don’t really even understand the it’s a white thing parts though. Ashley gets points for not conflating her Mom’s cancer with black welfare and illegal immigration. But Wright gets points for conflating AIDS with hateful white people.

These people are just making this shit up as they go a lot I think.

  55. Sean M. says:

OK what if you cross the street to avoid Cream of Wheat, but spend all Sunday morning rolling around naked with Aunt Jemima?

    Ewwwww…sticky.

  56. Bill Clinton’s been with more Aunt Jemima than Cream of Wheat has.

Meanwhile, I’m just not going to fight it anymore. I’m grabbing all the power being ascribed to my Whiteness.

  57. Carin says:

Oh, why did I go read happy’s link. The guy makes a nice argument, wraps it up in a pretty package with fancy words. But, if what he says were true, how come I can go into a hospital in Detroit and see it STUFFED with black people?

I don’t understand why people defend the ignorance of minorities. Sure, Wright was wrong, but I’ve got a, b, and c defense as to WHY, so we (white people) just need to understand.

It’s the same excuse as to why blacks don’t donate blood. The ENTIRE city of Detroit couldn’t support a single blood donation site. I think it finally closed due to lack of donors. You see, they’re afraid they’re going to be experimented on.

The ultimate irony is – it is WHITE BLOOD (donated by white suburbanites) that keeps the blacks in Detroit alive when they are in crises.

  58. You’d see Mr. Peanut, complete with monocle and spats, and complain about the quality of the acid? That’s harsh.

  59. ducktrapper says:

W.O.W. Wretched Old Whitey here. Actually I’m kind of pink. I have a daughter who’s technically black but really she’s a lovely mocha. My ex who is of Greek descent is actually darker than my daughter. Maybe I don’t get this Obama thing.

  60. SarahW says:

Is there syphillis in my Talking Oatmeal. AGAIN?!

  61. Challeron says:

Now, y’see, Jeff, this is the problem: You’re one of those wheat oppressors that Rev. Wright complained about.

    GRAINIST!!

  62. So can someone splain why Blacks are voting en masse for the socialist medicine party?

They’re voting en masse against the nationalized racism party.

Oh, why did I go read happy’s link.

It apparently wasn’t in order to learn anything.

The guy makes a nice argument, wraps it up in a pretty package with fancy words.

    I apologize. I didn’t know you’d be coming by.

But, if what he says were true, how come I can go into a hospital in Detroit and see it STUFFED with black people?

Um, because Detroit is over 80% black?

Or did you mean, why are they there at all, given their mistrust of the healthcare system? I would guess it’s because they still want healthcare, even though they distrust the system. They have no alternative, so they use the system that they know (and are factually correct in believing) has mistreated them in the past. If you don’t understand that, I suppose you’ve never had to choose between bad options.

I don’t understand why people defend the ignorance of minorities. Sure, Wright was wrong, but I’ve got a, b, and c defense as to WHY, so we (white people) just need to understand.

Well, I don’t understand why people defend the ignorance of white people about minorities. I did my best to contribute, but it obviously didn’t help.

To clarify just a few of your ignorant remarks above:

    – Wright isn’t wrong about the history of mistreatment of blacks; he’s just wrong about one particular facet of that mistreatment

    – the “ignorant” belief in an AIDS conspiracy isn’t attributable to “minorities”; as I noted , it arose with highly-credentialed white people and its supporters include whites to this day; it was adopted by blacks also, no doubt in response to the fact that almost-identical practices had taken place in the past, but is not characteristic of blacks as a group

    – if you have multiple lines of evidence in support of a certain belief that has been historically correct in other particulars, then it is understandable that you would adopt that belief in one new particular

    – acknowledging a plausible conclusion from circumstantial evidence and well-documented historical fact is not mere “understanding”; it is a demonstration that you are not so cognitively incompetent as to be unable to follow that reasoning (though sadly you have failed to pass the test in this case).

It’s the same excuse as to why blacks don’t donate blood. The ENTIRE city of Detroit couldn’t support a single blood donation site. I think it finally closed due to lack of donors. You see, they’re afraid they’re going to be experimented on.

    And to continue:

    – there is one American Red Cross blood center, a Red Cross neonatal cord blood bank, and a private blood center in the Detroit city center or within 15 miles; there are three more Red Cross blood centers in the surrounding communities

    – blacks have been experimented on, without their consent, sometimes in deadly ways, sometimes in research involving blood, from before the Civil War to the present day, and have been lied to during and after those experiments to cover up the truth

It’s staggering that you refuse to believe that there’s a rational basis for black distrust of the healthcare system even when given the facts demonstrating that that system has, in fact, treated blacks in untrustworthy ways many, many times in the past. I’m sure that if your family or community had such a history at the hands of any major social institution, you would mistrust it – and demand restitution, and changes in the system. But you not only deny such understandable reactions to blacks, you declare them to be “ignorant” and irrantional for . . . correctly knowing and believing the factual history of their own mistreatment, and for taking that history into account in evaluating current events. I would think they could hardly do otherwise, but, then, I’m not an ignorant, racist asshole.

  63. happyfeet says:

God you’re gay. Baracky is not gonna be your president a lot because of puerile race-baiters like you I think.

  64. Darleen says:

hehehe… now my comments are “moderated” on happyfeet’s link. I believe BMoe must have made the “blame whitey” party host a little uncomfortable.

  65. happyfeet says:

Baracky’s church thinks the government started AIDS, goofball. He and M’chelle gave them tens of thousands of dollars in support of an anti-American message that exploited, in this case, specifically black ignorance. Exploiting black ignorance is wrong. Baracky should say I’m sorry I exploited all you ignorant people but it was good for my political career. I promise to stop doing it though.

  66. JD TWP says:

They’re voting en masse against the nationalized racism party.

It is usually just a function of time until this asshat, or his ilk, drop by.

  67. happyfeet says:

Also Kevin T., you’re for real a lot dumb cause your bloated prose serves as a foil I think for what would be a pretty easily constructed narrative for how white people have been not at all well-served historically by the medical establishment. Lots more white than blacks got the sanitarium treatment for starters. Also, what is plastic surgery but wholesale medical experimentation on white people? Doctors are neurotic and subhuman a lot the world over; they don’t really care about the race of the people they know better than, and when they do, like as not they’re liberals.

  68. Carin says:

    Oh, where to start?

    – Wright isn’t wrong about the history of mistreatment of blacks; he’s just wrong about one particular facet of that mistreatment

He’s wrong, 100% wrong, when he says whitey invented AIDS to kill black people. Stop. Go no further. When he says that, there is no reason to listen to another word he says.

I don’t care where it came from. It doesn’t matter. He repeats it. I never said, nor believed, he invented it. I don’t think anyone has claimed that bit of BS came from him originally, so your entire argument devoted to it’s history is totally irrelevant.

    – if you have multiple lines of evidence in support of a certain belief that has been historically correct in other particulars, then it is understandable that you would adopt that belief in one new particular

And, since we’re all about victimization, why bother to even refute it!

    – there is one American Red Cross blood center, a Red Cross neonatal cord blood bank, and a private blood center in the Detroit city center or within 15 miles; there are three more Red Cross blood centers in the surrounding communities

Yes, and they’ve threatened to close that (new) center for the last few years because they are unable to get enough donations to make it worth their while. I know all about the blood centers in the surrounding communities, because I’ve visited them – I’m a rather frequent blood donor. The TRUTH of the matter is that black people – in Detroit – are very reluctant to give blood. I even gave blood in a black church in Detroit – hardly anyone showed up there either.

Neonatal centers are entirely different because the hospitals draw populations from all over the meteropolitan area, and is a specialized service.

blacks have been experimented on, without their consent, sometimes in deadly ways, sometimes in research involving blood, from before the Civil War to the present day, and have been lied to during and after those experiments to cover up the truth

To the present day. Care to give an example?

  69. alppuccino says:

After years of Nagin, Kilpatrick, Marion Berry, William Jefferson, and now Patterson, I have a real basis for distrust of black politicians. Hey Kevin, it works!

  70. happyfeet says:

Keith a lot is just doing his part to further the political segregation of black people I think.

  71. happyfeet says:

    Also, thalilomide.

  72. alppuccino says:

As long as I’ve outed myself as a distruster of black politicians, I might as well go whole-hog and point out the interesting reaction to Patterson’s cocaine and pot use. “Just get it out in the open now. It’s no big deal.”

He’s black. Of course he would have used pot and cocaine. What? You’re gonna hold that against him? That.is.racist.bullshit.

Was Clarence Thomas a coke-head? Condi free-based. I do know that.

  73. Darleen says:

It’s staggering that you refuse to believe that there’s a rational basis for black distrust of the healthcare system

No. The distrust is irrational when it is enflamed by “AIDS is a gubmint plot.”

“It’s staggering you refuse to believe that there’s a rational basis for arab distrust of Jew’s, so we must understand suicide bombers”

how’s that work for you, Kevin? Find that reasonable?

You can call a table a “cat” all day long, it doesn’t make it one and it doesn’t make people preaching about cats as furniture “reasonable.”

  74. Darleen says:

my comment at Kevin T’s place that is still in the moderation que:

Wright isn’t ignorant. How many times has his educated creds been cited? Wright exploits the paranoia of others. He used his position of authority to disseminate fiction as fact. No amount of equivocating about “well, given the awful history … let me mix some facts with opinion here” excuses it. The analogy is apt, since there are white supremacist [ostensible] “churches” who promulgate anti-Semitic as well as anti-Black lines. What should people think of authors that tried to give a leader of one of those “churches” as pass based on the awful things that leader might have seen?

As B Moe points out… why only 400 years of “American” chattel slavery? Blacks weren’t the first slaves in the New World (the Irish were) and certainly they weren’t the only slaves. My family was sold out of a debtors prison and brought to the New World in 1697, then sold to work on a Virginia plantation.

Makes me much more a member of the American slave experience than Obama can ever claim.

  75. McGehee says:

They’re voting en masse against the nationalized racism party.

You mean they’ve stopped voting Democrat!!!???

  76. alppuccino says:

My family was sold out of a debtors prison and brought to the New World in 1697, then sold to work on a Virginia plantation.

    Darleen,

My family got a great deal on your family and then sold your family for a handsome profit. But we’re still cool though, right?

  77. McGehee says:

My family was sold out of a debtors prison

My ancestor, as near as I can piece things together, was on the wrong side of a civil war and got sold into indenture.

It could’ve been worse, if he’d been a personage of any consequence he would have been beheaded instead.

  78. Carin says:

Ok, Alp is cracking me up.

My family wasn’t in this country during the time of slavery. Ireland and Germany until the early 19th century. I’m free and clear. My grandpa, on my mother’s side, is a tad free with the “N” word, but I could no longer denounce him than I could a crazy uncle, right?

  79. Victor. says:

I don’t think you can simply dismiss these arguments as just another set of moral equivocations and expect to persuade people. Obama’s fallback is two fold, holding onto -for all eternity- the kernel of truth that originated much of these grievances, and simultaneously telling everyone that voting for him makes us all Black.

Given the reality of modern American culture, it’s hard to ignore the effectiveness of such an appeal.

If you are not willing to engage the particulars and resolve yourselves to trotting out personifications of the “Quaker Oat Guy” to do all the talking for you, then it’s a safe bet that all those political grievances that you despise so much are on there way to being codified.

  80. happyfeet says:

Some Blacks are more equal than others though.

  81. alppuccino says:

You know who’s really black, but really not? Vijay Singh. That’s some special dark chocolate right there.

  82. Carin says:

Victor – the problem is that “the discussion” is rigged. I’ve seen it again and again. A year ago, here in Detroit, they rounded up all sorts of Detroit “thinkers” to discuss race. Whites and blacks – speaking together and apart. The problem is – the blacks are “allowed” to say whatever they want. Get it all out. Say what they want. The white are allowed an inch, before the RACIST charge comes up. The conversation quickly turns into a rational for whatever blacks want to think. LIke the linked article. Sure, Wright is wrong, but he isn’t really because … bla bla bla, Tuskegee … culture knowledge, perception. Yada yada yada. The medical establishment is racist because it used to be, and black knowledge is colored by past actions …

When it comes down to it, Wright is wrong. Period. End of story.

  83. Victor. says:

Carin- I’m not ready to give up that fight, come what may. I was hoping that PW (either directly or indirectly) would offer a counter to the claims (outlined by yourself) that goes beyond moral equivalence, because I don’t think people find them persuasive in light of the alternate option of embracing their blackness.

  84. B Moe says:

I believe BMoe must have made the “blame whitey” party host a little uncomfortable.

I tend to have that effect on a lot of people. He still hasn’t answered any of my questions.

  85. Slartibartfast says:

    – the “ignorant” belief in an AIDS conspiracy isn’t attributable to “minorities”; as I noted , it arose with highly-credentialed white people and its supporters include whites to this day; it was adopted by blacks also, no doubt in response to the fact that almost-identical practices had taken place in the past, but is not characteristic of blacks as a group

So, the fact that Wright has some company being wrong makes him less wrong, and less bigoted…how? Conspiracy theories are propagated by folks who want to believe them, or because those theories tend to support their preexisting point of view. I care not at all that Wright didn’t invent the story, I care that he’s predisposed enough to believe it that he either didn’t check it out, or doesn’t believe that it’s not a myth.

  86. nishizonoshinji says:

i said this site was pablum, not oatmeal…there are strong textural differences there.
and jeffie, when i said u were typical i didnt mean typicalwhiteguy.
i meant Tickle Me Pink kinda Typical.

yah, the AIDS stuff is wacky consiracy theory…i doubt wright even believes it himself.
im seein more and more in the-chickens-coming-home-to-roost-theory tho.
dont u think we are gonna have to pay for meddling in Afican population genetics someday?

it’s chickens all the way down.

nishi: Do you ever get tired of typing the same crap over and over and over and over, move to another thread, type the same crap over and over and over… rinse and repeat??

Don’t you just bore yourself after a while or are you really the the most simple minded 145 IQ person in the world?

  88. B Moe says:

…dont u think we are gonna have to pay for meddling…

What is the distinction between meddling and bricolage? How do you square isolationism as a policy with your notions of cultural evolution? Isn’t it the evolutionary duty of superior systems to prevail over weaker, inefficient ones? Isn’t co-opting the existing systems and using what is there to your own advantage the way you have been promoting? Until your recent poultry fetish, that is. Did you know that geek was originally a term applied to chicken fuckers? Kind of ironic, that.

Karl’s rejoinder about wit notwithstanding (have you read some of his long-ass posts?) I totally fucking love those posts. I’ve been a fan of the band Phish for awhile, and while I dig their straight-ahead three-chord stuff, I really love the atonal fugues and the epic sonata-form stuff. Part of the reason I love it is because it blows my mind, but the other reason is because it introduced me in a profound way to Arnold Schoenberg, Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, and so on.

Yeah, you’ve been over my head a few times, Jeff. But I went out and read everything I could find about what you were saying and I know significantly more because of it. So maybe it’s selfishness, but I pine for that shit.

  90. Slartibartfast says:

Please do not feed the self-confessed troll.

    Thank you.

  91. nishizonoshinji says:

Isn’t co-opting the existing systems and using what is there to your own advantage

so…triple digit population growth in Africa is going to work to our advantage?
    how is that?

  92. B Moe says:

Do you have OCD, nishi? Is it at all possible for you to see the big picture? The idea that all of Africa is going to be pissed to the point of war at us because we offer them medical help and try to save their babies is fucking mind-boggling to any sane person, I am trying to figure out what the fuck is your major malfunction?

  93. BJTexs_TWP_MOUSE says:

I am trying to figure out what the fuck is your major malfunction?

Um … answered your own question, you did:

is fucking mind-boggling to any sane person,

  94. nishizonoshinji says:

    pfft
ur all saying Wright is whack.
he is whack on some stuff…..but im persuaded that the chickens comin home to roost is truth.
with the absolute best of intentions, amerika has given Africa an overpopulation problem that isnt goin to go away.
why cant u just say that a half century of feelgood surviveabilty programs should have been offset with strong birth control education?
why cant u admit we fucked up?
the chickens of the peace corps and the marynolls (and others) in Africa are gonna come home as several million uneducated and underemployed young african males ripe for jihaad.

  95. happyfeet says:

It’s not a we thing. The Nations United and also the United Countries of Europe and also the China and the Bank of Teh Whole World and also the IMF are all really involved in Africa. And also Sally Struthers. And it’s mostly liberal retards what drive policy there. I really don’t think the U.S. will be singled out for blame. Didn’t you catch any of the news blackout on President Bush’s trip there? They loved him a lot. Everyone had a very nice time, and really, I think America in general has positive feelings about Africa. They have giraffe babies there. No toucans though.

  96. nishizonoshinji says:

O is at least proposing SOMETHING in “dignity”.
what do u guyz suggest we do?

  97. nishizonoshinji says:

I really don’t think the U.S. will be singled out for blame.

sadly, ur soooo wrong there feets.
we will be signgled out for blame.
    just like 911.

  98. happyfeet says:

him wuvs his nishi, pretty sure. No chickens today I don’t think.

  99. nishizonoshinji says:

    singled, lawls.
yah the brits, those eevul colonialist bastards skate alla time.
or most of the time (cough…subway bomb….coughcough).
    why us?
we represent the chick that dissed them, more better than anyone else.

  100. nishizonoshinji says:

    They loved him a lot.

cuz he gave them mosquito nets ‘stead of condoms.

  101. B Moe says:

amerika has given Africa an overpopulation problem that isnt goin to go away.
why cant u just say that a half century of feelgood surviveabilty programs should have been offset with strong birth control education?
why cant u admit we fucked up?

Look at Africas population density, nishi. Look at its natural resources. Look at its arable land potential. Africa isn’t overpopulated, not by a long shot. It is under utilized. The continent of Africa if developed efficiently could support far more people than are there now. You can’t solve a problem if you don’t understand it. And you keep ignoring the very real possibility that the natives won’t use birth control. In which case you seem to advocate starving the children, yeah, that is some jam up foreign policy right there.

  102. happyfeet says:

I don;t think so. They hate Europe a lot. You saw what happened in the Ivory Coast. And Belgium they hate forever and ever. And I doubt they’re particularly enthralled with China, except for the genocidey ones that like the Chinese cause they get their guns from them. Really, I think the U.S. is way ahead of the game in Africa. George Bush made something of a priority of it. South Africa hates us but that’s cause liberals told them to a lot.

  103. nishizonoshinji says:

cuz givin them condoms….that wud be racist, like suggestin there are enuff black babies already, or even….amoral! advocating killin babies!

  104. happyfeet says:

That whackjob Keith T. already included Norplant in his list of attempted genocide. The link is up there somewhere.

  105. B Moe says:

O is at least proposing SOMETHING in “dignity”.
what do u guyz suggest we do?

Kill the bad guys. Clean up the corruption. Teach them to farm. Teach them to work. Encourage industrialization and business development. Teach them free trade. Same thing I advocate world wide.

  106. B Moe says:

…several million uneducated and underemployed young african males ripe for jihaad.

Took the words right out of Malkin and Spensers mouth, dintcha?

  107. nishizonoshinji says:

The continent of Africa if developed efficiently could support far more people than are there now.
    then why isnt it?
wouldnt that be a good “dignity” program?
why cant u just admit, shit!! no one thot this out!
they were so gaga over those doe-eyed starvin babies that no one made population growth curves?
    really?

  108. nishizonoshinji says:

i splained why fundie millenialist islam (the only kind spencer has the IQ to support) wud be far more seductive to young african males than that pansy-ass jesus.

i never quote that dumb bitch malkin except to mock her.

  109. B Moe says:

wouldnt that be a good “dignity” program?

    lmfao.

i splained why fundie millenialist islam (the only kind spencer has the IQ to support) wud be far more seductive to young african males than that pansy-ass jesus.

That is what I said, you agree with Malkin and Spencer.

  110. nishizonoshinji says:

That is what I said, you agree with Malkin and Spencer.

    i never agree with two-digits.
their premise is that fundie millenialist islam is all there is.

  111. B Moe says:

You need to read the Sundiver/Uplift series by David Brin, nishi
    http://www.davidbrin.com/upliftbooks.html
He has a nice bit in one of the early ones about how man is the ultimate problem solver because he spends so much time fucking up. It is a great series, would improve your outlook and give you something to do for the next month or two.

  112. nishizonoshinji says:

    haha
spencer munged up the link to where he was whining about how no real islamic scholars wud debate him!
ill have to see if i can find it.
    zmog!

  113. nishizonoshinji says:

    why wud it take months?
i read the last harry potter in 5 hours flat.

  114. nishizonoshinji says:

it took me 35 minutes to read Jerusalem Countdown!
its really more of a pamphlet i guess.

  115. happyfeet says:

Africa can figure a lot of this out on it’s own. They’re not stupid. We can help a lot with trade I think. Killing our cotton subsidy programs would help a lot I think.

  116. JD TWP says:

You fed them! Now you must kill them, or they will fuck themselves to death !!!!!!!! lulz rowr

  117. nishizonoshinji says:

    nope.
they”l just turn eevul like the gremlins.

  118. nishizonoshinji says:

    They’re not stupid.

    really?
but carin said they were like little children.

  119. nishizonoshinji says:

i dont think little children could manage that.
    not really.

  120. Challeron says:

  125. B Moe says:

Given her comprehension, I can’t believe it takes her as long to read a book as she brags about.

  126. Carin says:

Little children accept help and then whine about it. So, yes, any country – African or otherwise- that accept American help and then whines like a little bitch is a child.

But, it is not my understanding that every African country is complaining about our help.

Personally, I find your attitude racist.

  127. Carin says:

And, I’m not impressed with your speed reading skills. If I didn’t have responsibilities, I could have finished the book as quickly as you.

  128. hmmm, I think someone’s sarcasm meter is broken.

  129. B Moe says:

I don’t understand the concept of speed reading a novel, frankly. Do you listen to music or watch movies on fast-forward?

  130. nishizonoshinji says:

it is not my understanding that every African country is complaining about our help.

    hahaha, noooo.
but they are not going to be grateful either are they?

anyways, that wasnt wat u said, carin….the context was that they couldnt manage cuz they were like little children, helpless….
    wanna try my search-fu?

  131. B Moe says:

    wanna try my search-fu?

Only nishi thinks it is an amazing intellectual feat to accurately quote someone when responding to them. You really are daddies little princess, aren’t you?

  132. nishizonoshinji says:

well…i only have to do that when they lie.
    rawr,

  133. B Moe says:

well…i only have to do that when they lie.

No, you don’t have to do it at all, as evidenced by you in this thread. But most people here, especially if they are going to accuse someone of lying, copy and paste the direct quote as a matter of form. I am unimpressed by someone recounting what they think someone else said, unless you are a professor of history in Bumfuck, Kentucky.

  134. I am unimpressed by someone recounting what they think someone else said, unless you are a professor of history in Bumfuck, Kentucky.

and then it’s mostly impressed by teh stupid, am I right?

  135. B Moe says:

I am impressed he can type, or keep enough drool out of the keyboards they actually function.

  136. McGehee says:

Are we sure she said she’s a Sufi? Maybe she just couldn’t spell “stupid.”

  137. happyfeet says:

Africans are not stupid children is what I meant.

  138. nishizonoshinji says:

but that is wat carin meant.

  139. nishizonoshinji says:

    and heres wat she said!!

    so dont expect gratitude.
    it aint gonna happen.
if anything, it makes them hate us more.

Ok, now this attitude is only slightly more immature than taking morality cues from a movie. I mean, gosh, I liked “Serenity”, but mostly because Nathan Fillon is hot.

I know, I know we (mostly) don’t get gratitude for helping people out. Because they are like little children who couldn’t solve their problems in the first place.

  140. nishizonoshinji says:

    /giggles

  141. happyfeet says:

But even so, Africans are not homogeneous. Or are you a pan-African now?

  142. happyfeet says:

I know, I know we (mostly) don’t get gratitude for helping people out, because they are like little children who couldn’t solve their problems in the first place.

That’s how I read that, and it says that the left’s infantilizing view of Africans forestalls our getting any credit for assisting them, that our assistance is taken for granted. The word *like* is key there I think, and that’s my take on it at least until you give a link so I can see the context.

  143. now, I’ve only been reading Carin’s stuff for years, but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a serious comment. perhaps she needs to use the /sarc tag more often. OTOH maybe years of homeschooling five kids just got to her. ;p

  144. B Moe says:

Carin is making fun of juvenile attitudes like yours, nishi. Congratulations on helping her make a complete fool of you.

  145. Slartibartfast says:

Can we PLEASE stop feeding the fucking troll, already?

  146. nishizonoshinji says:

    ima greifer, slart.
i grieve for the republican party and for this site.
both have terminal infestations of theocons.
    im just sharin my pain.

    carinlink

first u need the exact words, then u need the exact context…its just like the fisherman and the magick flounder.
next u’ll want to be pope.

  147. Slartibartfast says:

Remember, folks, nishi is just a troll. Griefer is a gamer-analog for troll; it’s got nothing to do with grief.

  148. Blitz says:

My family was sold out of a debtors prison and brought to the New World in 1697, then sold to work on a Virginia plantation.

Damn Darleen, we might be relatives. Mine came in the early 1700’s (1704,near enough) Does “Mahoney” show up in your bloodline?

  149. Blitz says:

My grandpa, on my mother’s side, is a tad free with the “N” word, but I could no longer denounce him than I could a crazy uncle, right?

Carin? My kids use the “n” word frequently. Thing is? they’re just riffin’ off the slang that’s actually allowable in the High school they attend!! I think really that’s a good thing cus even the “n”‘s don’t mind. In my day? I’d have been beaten silly for even thinking it.

  150. Blitz says:

    They loved him a lot.

cuz he gave them mosquito nets ’stead of condoms

Ok you fcuking moron…Yes, that’s exactly WHY he’s loved there. He SAVED their babies. See, in the REAL world, people love their babies be they black, white, brown, yellow, red, oreoish, albino or Martian (anyone remember “YOB”?) and all you want to do you little cnut is let them die…May Allah( I forget which circle of hell?) condemn you to 72 virgins with the c*cks of raisins.
