Vote for Obama: He’s fluxxy like the zeitgeist!
If elected, Obama would be the first genuinely 21st-century leader. The China-Indonesia-Kenya-Britain-Hawaii web mirrors a world in flux.
Of all the dopey reasons I’ve heard to vote for somebody, this may be the dopiest.
Tom Bevan plucks this bit from David Mendell’s Obama book, From Promise to Power:
But what truly struck Wright from that meeting was Obama’s astonishment over the black caucus event in Washington. It opened Wright’s eyes once again to just how innocent and idealistic Obama could be about the world of politics. [snip]
“He had gone down there to get support and find out who would support him and found out it was just a meat market,” the pastor said in an interview, breaking into a laugh. “He had people say, ‘If you want to count on me, come on to my room. I don’t care if you’re married. I am not asking you to leave your wife – just come on.’ All the women hitting on him. He was, like, in shock. He’s there on a serious agenda, talking about running for he United States Senate. They’re talking about giving [him] some pussy. And I was like, ‘Barack, c’mon, man. Come on! Name me one significant thing that has come out of black congressional caucus weekend. It’s homecoming. It’s just a nonstop party, all the booze you want, all the booty you want. That’s all it is.’ And here he is with this altruistic agenda, trying to get some support. He comes back shattered. I thought to myself, ‘Does he have a rude awakening coming his way.’
She’ll get to Scotland before him?
Reminds me why I hate urinalists, really. Roger C is completely morally bankrupt. He speaks of polygamy/adultery as if it is a legitimate lifestyle choice. Essentially, he is saying this: it is a good thing in this world of con-fused economies to also have similarly con-fused and barely understandable family trees. Maybe he needs to read the WSJ. Wall Street and the Feds have sold us out in a remarkable way to “privately held investors” (re: UAE. Saudis, and the Chinese Military). Fuck it: now we need a leader who will proffer what’s left. That makes a shit load of sense? Go fuck a tree, Cohen.
Heh. Dan suggesting that Cohen is a Koan.
“You can hear the whisperings about a polygamous father.”
And when I do hear those whisperings, I’ll know for a fact that they didn’t come from the rightwing hate machine. I’ll correctly recall having heard it first from Roger Cohen.
From Roger:Obama’s bridge-building instincts come from somewhere. They are rooted and proven. For an expectant and often alienated world, they are of central significance.
WHAT bridge building? I find it interesting that his (absent) father’s bridge building in the form of fathering children from various walks of life parlays into Obama’s “instinct” for – I suppose – bringing people together.
Here’s what I want Obama to do. I’d like to see him build a bridge from Wright’s black liberation theology to your average Joe. One that doesn’t involve whitewashing Wright’s believes or (as in the liberal model) merely accepting Wright’s BS as truth.
erm… Carin… we prefer the term “Euro-American-Washing” –> you insensitive bitch.
Beliefs … duh.
And, I apologize Enoch – I’ve been remiss in attending those court ordered “white-guilt reprogramming seminars.”
Regarding Spam – any way I can become a volunteer spam-killer? I hate seeing that crap in the recent comment thingy.
Carin – I agree with you, but we do not even need to go that far. How about Barry O showing one single challenging issue where he took a leadership role, and actually did something to bridge the differences between the 2 sides. So far, he talks it, but his limited record does not reflect that.
I hate that, too, Carin. I nuke out all of it on my posts that I see, but I can’t go into anyone else’s.
Racists
Dan – you need to ask the Jeff G to add the gadget that forces posters to prove they’re human… or at least not a spambot. SHould be a simple wordpress on/off modular thingy.
so if I want some black trim… erm… jungle love, all I have to do is go attend the black congressional caucus thingy and ask for “support”?
I am going to be in the minority (I denounce myself as a racist) when I express my unbridled hatred of the Turing Word thingie. From a mobile or a PDA, that is brutal.
What makes it illegitimate, other than it’s currently illegal? I think the word you’re probably searching for is moral, but moral as a value judgement all depends on which morality you’re using to evaluate it with. Or possibly you were looking for something like unworkable, but that has yet to be demonstrated.
If any of the above doesn’t make sense, add or remove the offending negatory prefix.
Slart – to me, Legitimate and Moral cannot be teased apart. I don’t know about unworkable. Seems to me heads of cattle seem to get along fine with one another when herded. Can women-beasts be that much different given this worldview?
Or possibly you were looking for something like unworkable
Who in their right freaking mind would ever think this concept was workable?
[…] Rev. Jeremiah Wright is the gift that just keeps on giving. Here’s his view of the Congressional Black Caucus — and since he’s an expert on black liberation theology, don’t you dare question […]
The China-Indonesia-Kenya-Britain-Hawaii web mirrors a world in flux.
That settles it. I’m writing in Rae Dawn Chong and Tiger Woods.
Who in their right freaking mind would ever think democracy was workable? I mean, a couple of hundred years of quagmire, right here.
Really, the fact that you can’t imagine something working is not, in fact, an argument. It’s more of an I-don’t-like-it value judgement. Not that there’s anything wrong with value judgements, but let’s not confuse them with more concrete concepts like legitimacy.
Slarti – I was making an obviously failed attempt at a joke. Having one better half is plenty for this guy. Having lots would require much therapy and pharmcological happy pills.
Agreed. Being wrong in a massively parallel fashion would require frequent ingestion of martinis, I think.
Sorry I missed out on the joke.
