Well, I’m terribly sorry, but the statements that have been “cherry picked” from the sermons of Reverend Wright don’t seem particularly just, don’t seem particularly charitable, and don’t seem particularly Christian.  Faith does require a certain capacity for credulity, I am aware, wherever it is lodged.  It has long been my opinion that that need not extend to willful idiocy.  It is simply impossible to believe that in the nature of their relationship, some of the issues addressed by Reverend Wright in the terms in which he chose to address them would not have been the subject of conversation between the pastor and this particular member of his flock.  Nor does it seem within the purview of a “reasonable doubt” that, even assuming Obama were not present at the incendiary sermons in question, the candidate would not have been made aware of the views expressed by his pastor by other members of the congregation.ÂÂ

I don’t have my copy at hand, but the author makes it quite clear that the LDS adjusted their interpretation as the facts about the mound builders developed. This is not a book that’s charitable to Smith or the LDS in general — its focus is archaeological fraud, fakers, and wishful thinkers. Yet Williams does note the “adjustments” to LDS interpretation.

I am no expert on this, but among the TV and radio preachers in the N. Georgia area I have heard it doesn’t seem to be. Wright cuts in too many directions… but I’m not at all sure that he’s an obstacle to the nomination, just really, really not helpful in November. He’s too emulable, but for someone without the baggage. Barack 2.0 is out there, somewhere, taking notes I think. But we’ll see. Science isn’t a religion, but it is part of your religion. There are ethics in religion, though. At what point does life begin? Is it ok to try to mix the DNA of a human with an animal? Is cloning ethical? How far could you bring a human through development in a laboratory?
Those are no more nor less religious questions than whether abortion at certain stages is killing. It’s just easy to write off what other people believe as being religious-based. It’s only a way of avoiding debate to justify what you (general you, not nishi-you) think. It’s a means of shouting people down.

Obama has distanced himself from the more extreme statements of his pastor…so I guess you all are going to bash him for going to church..while his mother’s influence is ignored (i.e. the excellent article in NYTimes about his late mother…link not provided but you must have read it by now.)
Anyway, this minor flaw in Obama’s past being so over-the-top investigated by the press at the moment this early in the game could be a plus for Obama…as people are getting bored with the essentially racist attacks upon him. His pastor was speaking ‘metaphorically’ about ‘black’ Jesus, etc. Gimme a break, that’s what the ‘good books’ generally do. Still, Obama imo, still has a hard row to hoe…just being black. I’ve heard too many whites saying they’d not vote for him just due to his skin color and these are people who voted usually for the Democratic presidential candidate. Obama’s chances bear on his economic arguments that’d relieve the declining (lower) middle class from the class war waged against them by the Romney-types for the last few decades. (I am still awaiting those arguments…[?])
